Heya,Define : Stoichiometry...., |
Answer» Stoichiometry is the calculation of reactants and products in chemical reactions.Stoichiometry is founded on the law of conservation of mass where the total mass of the reactants EQUALS the total mass of the products, leading to the insight that the relations among quantities of reactants and products typically form a ratio of positive integers. This means that if the amounts of the separate reactants are known, then the AMOUNT of the product can be calculated. Conversely, if one reactant has a known quantity and the quantity of the products can be empirically determined, then the amount of the other reactants can also be calculated. This is illustrated in the image here, where the balanced equation is:CH4 + 2 O2 → CO2 + 2 H2O.Here, one molecule of methane reacts with two molecules of oxygen gas to YIELD one molecule of carbon dioxide and two molecules of water. This particular chemical equation is an example of complete combustion. Stoichiometry measures these quantitative relationships, and is used to determine the amount of products and reactants that are produced or needed in a given reaction. Describing the quantitative relationships among substances as they participate in chemical reactions is known as reaction stoichiometry. In the example above, reaction stoichiometry measures the relationship between the methane and oxygen as they react to form carbon dioxide and water.Because of the well known relationship of moles to atomic weights, the ratios that are arrived at by stoichiometry can be used to determine quantities by weight in a reaction described by a balanced equation. This is called composition stoichiometry.Gas stoichiometry deals with reactions involving gases, where the gases are at a known temperature, PRESSURE, and volume and can be assumed to be ideal gases. For gases, the volume ratio is ideally the same by the ideal gas law, but the mass ratio of a single reaction has to be calculated from the molecular masses of the reactants and products. In practice, due to the existence of isotopes, molar masses are used instead when calculating the mass ratio. |

Whyperiodic table is important to our human society |
Answer» the beginning of 18th CENTURY, only a very few elements were known and it was quite easy to study and remember the individual properties. However, the situation become difficult with the discovery of large number of elements in the later YEARS. At this stage the scientist FELT the need of some simple method to facilitate the study of the properties of various elements and their compounds. After NUMEROUS attempts the scientist their ultimately successive in arranging the elements in such a way so that similar elements were grouped together in and different elements were separated. Please mark me as brainlist. |

How to distinguish ammonium hydroxide from sodium hydroxide? |
Answer» The initial reaction of both NH4OH and NaOH with CuSO4 is the same. The Cu 2+ ions react with the OH- ions from the NaOH or the NH4OH to produce insoluble Cu(OH)2Cu2+(aq) + 2OH- (aq) → Cu(OH)2 (s)The hydroxide is very finely suspended in the solution which has a light blue colour. This applies to both reactions.Adding more NaOH to this solution , produces no change. There is no change in the color or appearance of the solution. But if the solution containing the Cu(OH)2 produced by reacting the CuSO4 with NH4OH is treated with additional NH4OH a further reaction takes place. As more NH4OH is added the insoluble Cu(OH)2 will dissolve because SOLUBLE [Cu(NH3)4] 2+ ions are formed. The COPPER ammonia complex ion has a deep purple color , which MAKES the solution much darker - and there is no insoluble Cu(OH)2 remaining. You have have a solution of the copper - ammonia complex. This is how you distinguish between solutions of sodium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide using copper sulphate solution. |

How is coal formed. Describe the four types of coal found in india? |
Answer» Coal formed millions of years ago when the earth was COVERED with huge swampy forests where plants giant ferns, reeds and mosses - grew.Heat and pressure produced chemical and physical changes in the plant layers which FORCED out OXYGEN and left rich carbon deposits.the types of coal are1)Anthracite: It is the highest grade of coal containing a high percentage of fixed carbon. 2)Bituminous: It is a medium grade of coal having high HEATING capacity. 3)Subbituminous: It is black in colour, dull (not shiny) and has a higher heating value than lignite.4)Lignite: It is the lowest grade coal with the least carbon content. It is found in the regions of Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Jammu & KASHMIR. |
