Answer»

Let the MOLECULAR weight of KBrO₃ be 'M'.

Oxidation state of Br in BrO₃⁻ :

x + 3(-2) = -1

x - 6 = -1

x = +5

Oxidation state of Br in Br⁻ :

x = -1

Thus, the oxidation state of Br in the GIVEN reaction, CHANGES from +5 to -1.

→ n-factor = change in oxidation state = 5 - (-1) = 6

Therefore Equivalent weight of KBrO₃ = M/n-factor = M/6

Why frenkel defect is not observed in CsCl?

Answer»

In Frenkel defects, the IONS leave their POSITIONS and OCCUPY interstitial sites.

CsCl is does not show Frenkel defect because -

-The ratio of radius between the two is not sufficient to allow the ions to occupy interstitial sites.

-The coordination NUMBER of CS is high which LEADS to the strong force of attraction between the ions so they can not move from their space.

20.

Plz answer as soonas possible

Answer»

Oxidation state of 'S' in S₂O₃²⁻ :

2x + 3(-2) = -2

2x = -2 + 6

2x = 4

x = +2

Oxidation state of 'S' in S₄O₆²⁻ :

4x + 6(-2) = -2

4x - 12 = -2

4x = 10

x = +2.5

So,

In the above reaction, the oxidation state of sulphur CHANGES from +2 to +2.5.

Thus the change in oxidation state = 2.5 - 2 = 0.5

→ But the change occurs in TWO sulphur atoms, hence the total change in oxidation state is 2 x 0.5 = 1

Thus, n-factor of Na₂S₂O₃ = 1

So, EQUIVALENT weight = molecular weight / 1 = Molecular weight

Give the Physical Properties of Haloalkanes

Answer»

Physical Properties of

Haloalkanes

\rule{200}2

1. Boiling point -

  • As the length of the carbon chain increases, surface area increase, vanderwaal FORCE increases. So, boiling point increases.
  • Haloalkanes have high boiling point than their parent hydrocarbon because between haloalkanes strong dipole-dipole forces present.
  • From fluoride to chloride; surface area increases, vanderwaal force increases. So, boiling point also increases.
  • With branching surface area decreases, vanderwaal force decreases. So, boiling point also decreases.
  • Para-isomers have high melting point than the ortho and meta-isomer because para-isomers are symmetrical and have CLOSE packing.

NOTE:- Boiling point increase with the increase in carbon chain but decrease with increase in branching.

2. State -

  • As the number of carbon increases, the surface area increases, vanderwaal force increases. So, they CONVERT from gas to liquid and then liquid to solid.

3. Polarity -

  • Haloalkanes are polar due to the presence of more electro-negative halogens, even though they are insoluble in water. Because alkyl halide make dipole-dipole force with water, which is weaker than Hydrogen bond present between water molecules.

4. Density -

  • Haloalkanes are heavier or DENSER than parent hydrocarbon as well as water.

Among water and hydrogen chloride in which hydrogen bond strongest

Answer» WELL, first-of-all you need to UNDERSTAND that the H  BONDING isn't actually bonding. It is just a covalent attraction. Also since Cl is larger than O it does not make a strong H bond. The size of the Cl  makes the dipole-dipole attraction weaker. However N, F and O are smaller and thus have an H bond.

Although in REALITY, compared to other COVALENTLY bonded structures, HCl  has a very strong covalent bond.

SIR,Which xylenes are thermodynamically most stable?ortho, para, or meta?

Answer»

From ortho, para and meta-xylene, meta-xylene is the most stable.

m-xylene is more thermodynamically controlled product, whereas the other two are kinematically controlled product.

Methyl is an ortho-para directing group.
In ortho and para-xylene, electron density BECOMES HIGH DUE to +R effect of methyl group, whereas this is not SEEN in the CASE of meta-xylene.

Thus, m-xylene is more stable.

Hope it helps☺️☺️.

calculate the volumes of 2M and 5M of HCl solutions respectively to be mixed to make 2L of 4M solution?

Answer»

Total VOLUME of 4M HCL solution = 2 Litre

consider volume of 5M HCl solution = ‘V’ Litre

So, volume of 2M HCl solution = (2-V) Litre

According to equation,

(M1V1 + M2V2) / (V1+V2) = M3

M1 = 5M; V1 = V Litre

M2 = 2M; V2 = (2-V) Litre

M3 = 4M; V1+V2 = 2 Litre

Substitute in equation,

[5 X V + 2 x (2-V)] / 2 = 4

5V + 4 – 2V = 8

3V = 4

So, Volume of 5M HCl solution, V = 1.33 Litre

Then, Volume of 2M HCl solution, 2-V = 2-1.33 = 0.67 Litre
