A metal with shining appearance reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid evolving hydrogen gas suggest give reason why this metal cannot be copper

Answer»

ANSWER----

◆ When metal react with acid to give salt and hydrogen gas.

EQUATION = Metal + Acid ---- Salt and Hydrogen gas

◆ We will CHECK hydrogen gas will released or not with the help of pop sound. PoP Sound can be tested by burning a candle and near the TEST TUBE, so we can LISTEN pop sound so hydrogen gas is there.

◆ We will take Zinc (Zn)

Equation = Zn + 2HCl --- ZnCl2 + H2

in this above reaction ZnCl2 is salt and H2 is hydrogen gas

Zn = Zinc
HCl = Hydrochloride acid
ZnCl2 = Zinc chloride
H2 = Hydrogen

What is halogen derivatives? ?

Answer»

Halogen DERIVATIVES of Alkanes

The compounds formed by the replacement of one or more HYDROGEN atoms of alkanes by halogen atoms are called halogen derivatives of alkanes.
Examples: CH3Cl (methyl CHLORIDE), C2H5 Br (ethyl bromide)

Classification

Halogen derivatives

Monohalogen
derivatives contain
one halogen atom
per molecule,
e.g. CH3Cl

Dihalogen
derivatives contain
two halogen atoms
per molecule,
e.g. CH2Cl2

Trihalogen
derivatives contain
THREE halogen atoms
per molecule,
e.g. CHCl3

Tetrahalogen
derivatives contain
four halogen atoms
per molecule,
e.g. CCl4

Monohalogen Derivatives

They are also called alkyl halides. Their general formulais CnH2n+1 X where X = Cl, Br or I. They are also represented as R - X, where R stands for an alkyl group.
Nomenclature according to:
Common system - alkyl halide
IUPAC system - haloalkane

Classification of Monohalogen Derivatives of Alkanes or Alkyl Halides

Alkyl halides are classified into the following three classes depending on the number of alkyl groups ATTACHED to the carbon atom bearing the halogen atom:

Primary Alkyl Halide: The alkyl halide in which the carbon atom bearing the halogen atom is attached to not more than one other carbon atom or alkyl group is called a primary alkyl halide.
General Structure: R - CH2 - X
Examples: CH3 - CH2 - Cl, CH3 - CH2 - Br

Secondary Alkyl Halide: The alkyl halide in which the carbon atom bearing the halogen atom is attached to two other carbon atoms or alkyl groups is called a secondary alkyl halide. In such halides, the halogen bearing carbon atom is attached to only one hydrogen atom.
Example: (CH3)2CH - Cl (isopropyl chloride)

Tertiary Alkyl Halide: The alkyl halide in which the carbon atom bearing the halogen atom is attached to three other carbon atoms or alkyl groups is called a tertiary alkyl halide. In such halides, the halogen bearing carbon atom is devoid of any hydrogen atom.

Example: (CH3)3 C - Cl (tertiary butyl chloride)

Which gas is produced when crystals of lead nitrate heated strongly

Answer»

PbO is LEAD oxide,NITROGEN DIOXIDE[NO2] which appears as BROWN FUMES and oxygen is produced. Lead nitrate on heatingdecomposes to lead monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen. NO2 is liberated, along with oxygen, as a reddish brown gas. The residue left is lead monoxide.

38.

An ice cube containing a large bubble of air is floating in water contained in a large beaker. When the ice melts completely, the level of water will :

Answer» INCREASE in some AMOUNT
39.

A certain first-order reaction a > b is 25% complete in 42 min at 25°c. What is its rate constant?

Answer»

6.19\times 10^{-3} min^{-1}Answer: RATE CONSTANT is

Explanation: For First order REACTION, the expression for rate constant is:

k= \frac{2.303}{t}log\frac{a}{a-x}

k= rate constant

t= TIME REQUIRED for a reaction

a= initial concentration

x= amount of reactant decomposed in time t

a-x= amount of reactant left after time t

If initial concentration (a) = 100

As 25% of the reactant has decomposed, x=25

(a-x)= (100-25) = 75

Putting in the values we get

k= \frac{2.303}{42}log\frac{100}{75}

k=6.19\times 10^{-3} min^{-1}

46.

Explain how the iron blade of a spade is fixed to a wooden handle

Answer»

The HOLE in an blade must be made to be smaller than the WOOD.

This is accomplished in three different ways.

The OLD blacksmith's WAY is to heat the blade so that the hole is LARGE enough to go over the wood and when it is cooled it will shrink down to the size of the wood. Wagon wheels are made this way.

Secondly, the wood is put into the hole of the blade and then spread out with wedges that expand the wood. Hammers are often made this way.

Thirdly, in a pick axe the blade is dropped onto the the handle from the hand end and the working end is over-sized so that it will not slip off.
