Posterior elongation in the annelid platynereis dumerilii involves stem cells molecularly related to primordial germ cells

Answer» LIKE most bilaterian animals, the annelid Platynereis dumerilii generates the majority of its body axis in an ANTERIOR to posterior temporal progression with new segments added sequentially. This process relies on a posterior subterminal proliferative body region, known as the "segment addition zone" (SAZ). We explored some of the molecular and cellular aspects of posterior elongation in Platynereis, in particular to test the hypothesis that the SAZ contains a specific set of stem cells dedicated to posterior elongation. We cloned and characterized the developmental expression patterns of orthologs of 17 genes known to be involved in the formation, behavior, or maintenance of stem cells in other metazoan models. These genes encode RNA-binding proteins (e.g., tudor, musashi, pumilio) or transcription factors (e.g., myc, id, runx) widely conserved in eumetazoans. Most of these genes are expressed both in the migrating primordial germ cells and in overlapping ring-like patterns in the SAZ, SIMILAR to some previously ANALYZED genes (piwi, vasa). The SAZ patterns are coincident with the expression of proliferation markers cyclin B and PCNA. EdU pulse and chase experiments suggest that new segments are produced through many rounds of divisions from small POPULATIONS of teloblast-like posterior stem cells. The shared molecular signature between primordial germ cells and posterior stem cells in Platynereis thus corresponds to an ancestral "stemness" program.

Differentiate between endoskeleton anf exoskeleton ( five points of difference)

Answer»

Exoskeleton:

1. Hard part that lies outside of the body is called exoskeleton.

2. Develops from ectoderm.

3. Mostly non-LIVING e.g. scales, hair, HORNS, feathers.

4. The exoskeleton covers the MUSCLES and soft tissue of the animal, providing better leverage for muscular movement.

5. This molting process takes place various times over the lifetime of the animal.

Endoskeleton:

1. Hard part that lies inside of the body is called endoskeleton.

2. Develops from endoderm.

3.They are less protective than exoskeletons

4. They are living, e.g. Bones, cartilages.

5. Another advantage of endoskeletons is that they GROW as the organism GROWS in size.

Explain principle of using solar energy .explain tow devices to use solar energy

Answer»

Solar electric systems use solar CELLS to convert the Sun's radiant energy into electricity. This is done using a principle known as the photovoltaic effect. Since a solar cell only GENERATES about 1-2 Watts of power, it is necessary to combine them into solar power panels in ORDER to generate more power.

There are lots of ways we use solar energy. We can harness the sun's energy by using solar collectors. These collectors enable US to use the heat from the sun to warm our homes and heat our water. They can be installed anywhere the sun shines but are usually installed on ROOFS for maximum sun exposure.

Chairside quantitative immunochromategraphic evaluation of salivary cotinine and its concentration with correlation with chronic periodontitis

Answer»

Background:

Cigarette smoking is an established and modifiable risk factor for periodontitis. Periodontitis appears to be dose-dependent on smoking. The purpose of this study was to assess a reliable MARKER of tobacco smoke exposure (salivary cotinine) chairside and to confirm the QUANTITATIVE association between smoking and chronic periodontitis.

Materials and Methods:

Saliva samples from 80 males, aged 30–60 years, with chronic periodontitis, were evaluated chairside using NicAlert™ cotinine test strips (NCTS). Patients were divided into two groups: A (cotinine negative) and B (cotinine positive). Plaque index (PI), Gingival index (GI), gingival bleeding index (GBI), probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and gingival recession (GR) were compared between the two groups and among the SUBJECTS of GROUP B.

Results:

Comparison showed that the severity of PPD (P<0.001), CAL (P<0.001), and GR (P<0.001) was more in group B than in group A. Severity of all periodontal parameters increased with increased salivary cotinine among the subjects in group B.

35.

why the public health programme of childhood for preventing infectious diseases is not reaching to every child?

Answer»

Mainly its communication and reach. The government fails to communicate it to all PEOPLE leading to lack of awareness. Lack of awareness leads to PARENTS not knowing about the programmes. Sometimes MISUNDERSTANDING of certain INFORMATION makes certain people to simply pass the programs. The reach of centers distributing the vaccines is also sparse and some children from hard to reach areas miss the date.

Managment of waste at domestic level

Answer»

Domestic waste disposal is an issue that is important to the management of any urban area. Cities without a functioning waste-disposal plan face risks of disease RUNNING rampant and economic activity GRINDING to a halt. The majority of North American cities use the sanitary-landfill method of waste disposal, which has served FAIRLY well for quite a while; however, in situations where SPACE is at a premium, incineration and material-recycling-based waste disposal are more likely to come to the FOREFRONT.

37.

What is the use of bile state the location of by product in part of in our body

Answer»

It is a juice produced by liver.

Bile or GALL acts to some extent as a surfactant, helping to emulsify the lipids in food. Bile salt anions are hydrophilic on one side and hydrophobic on the other side; consequently, they tend to aggregate around droplets of lipids (triglycerides and phospholipids) to form MICELLES, with the hydrophobic sides towards the fat and hydrophilic sides facing outwards. The hydrophilic sides are negatively charged, and this charge prevents fat droplets coated with bile from re-aggregating into larger fat particles. Ordinarily, the micelles in the duodenum have a diameter around 14–33 μm.[citation needed]

The dispersion of food fat into micelles provides a greatly increased surface area for the action of the enzyme pancreatic lipase, which actually digests the triglycerides, and is able to reach the fatty core through GAPS between the bile salts. A triglyceride is broken down into two fatty acids and a monoglyceride, which are absorbed by the villi on the intestine walls. After being transferred across the intestinal membrane, the fatty acids reform into triglycerides (re-esterified), before being absorbed into the lymphatic system through lacteals. Without bile salts, most of the lipids in food would be excreted in faeces, undigested.[citation needed]

Since bile increases the absorption of fats, it is an important part of the absorption of the fat-soluble substances,[4] such as the vitamins A, D, E, and K.[citation needed]

Besides its digestive function, bile serves also as the route of excretion for bilirubin, a byproduct of red blood CELLS RECYCLED by the liver. Bilirubin derives from hemoglobin by glucuronidation.

Bile tends to be alkali on average. The pH of common duct bile (7.50 to 8.05) is higher than that of the corresponding gallbladder bile (6.80 to 7.65). Bile in the gallbladder becomes more acidic the longer a person goes without eating, though resting slows this fall in pH.[5] As an alkali, it also has the function of neutralizing excess stomach acid before it enters the duodenum, the first section of the small intestine. Bile salts also act as bactericides, destroying many of the microbes that may be present in the food
