Find the sum of all odd numbers between 5 and 205101, Sn-[Hints : 5, 7, 9, 11,10605], 203, 205) n

Answer»

It is an AP with a = 5 and d = 2.

Tₙ = 205 = a+(n-1)d = 5 +(n-1)*2

200/2 = 100 = n-1, or n = 101.

S₁₀₁ = (101/2)[2*5+ (101–1)*2]

= (101/2)[10+200]

= 101*210/2

= 10605.

Answer: The sum of odd numbers from 5 to 205 is 10605.

Wallpaper 260 m long and 30 cm broad is required to cover the walls of a room.Length of the room is 7 m and its breadth is twice its height. Determine theheight of the room.

Answer»

Given : Length of wallpaper = 260 m and breadth = 30 m

So,

Area of wallpaper = 260×30 = 7800 m2

And

Length of the room is 7 m and its breadth is twice its height.

Let Height of room =x , So

Breadth of room = 2x

And surface area of all four walls of room = 2 ( Length×Height + Breadth×Height ) , So

2 ( 7x+ 2x(x) ) = 7800

7x + 2x2= 3900

2x2+ 7x- 3900 = 0

We know quadratic formula :

x =−b±b2−4ac√2ahere a= 2 , b = 7 and c = -3900

So,

x =−7±72−4×2×−3900√2×2=−7±49+31200√4=−7±31249√4So,

x =−7−31249√4and−7+31249√4

But we assume "x " is height of room so that can't be neagtive so we neglect negative term (x =−7−31249√4)and get

x =−7+31249√4=−7+176.774=169.774=42.44

Therefore,

Height of room = 42.44 m

answer is 3m

(2) The sum of third and seventh term of an A. P. is 6 and their product is8. Find the first term and the common difference of the A. P

Answer»

Let the first term be a and common difference be dnth term = a+(n-1)d

Given Third Term + Seventh term = (a+2d)+(a+6d) = 6 ==> a+4d = 3hence, a= 3-4d

Third Term * Seventh term = (a+2d)*(a+6d) = 8(3-4d+2d)*(3-4d+6d) = 8==> (3-2d)*(3+2d) = 8i.e. 9-4d^2 = 8==> d^2 = (9-8)/4 = 0.25==> d = 0.5 or -0.5

Now to check which is correct d...Substitute and find

Case (a): d= 0.5a+4d = 3==> a=3-4d = 3-4(0.5)=13rd term = a+2d= 1+2*0.5 = 27th term = a+6d= 1+6*0.5 = 4Sum = 6 and Product = 8

Case (b): d= -0.5a+4d = 3==> a=3-4d = 3-4(-0.5) = 3+2 = 53rd term = a+2d= 5+2*(-0.5) = 47th term = a+6d= 5+6*(-0.5) = 2Sum = 6 and Product = 8

Since both are matching, we will go with bothvalues

Sum of first 16 terms = n*(2a+(n-1)d)/2 = 16*(2a+15d)/2= 8*(2a+15d)

Case (a): d= 0.5Sum = 8*(2*1+15*0.5)=76

Case (b): d= 0.5Sum = 8*(2*5+15*(-0.5))=20
