Answer» Biographical Sketch of Stephen Hawking Stephen William Hawking is one of the greatest scientists of the world. He was born at Oxford in England on 8 January, 1942 to Isobel Hawking and Frank Hawking. He was the eldest of four sons. His father, Frank Hawking, was a medical researcher with a speciality in tropical diseases. Hawking was recognised as a bright student. But he was not initially successful academically. During his high school years, Stephen stood the third from the bottom of his class. Hawking used to remain with a close group of friends with whom he enjoyed board games, the manufacture of fireworks, model aeroplanes and boats. With the help of the mathematics teacher, Dickran Tahta, Hawking and his companions built a computer from clock parts, an old telephone switchboard and other recycled components when he was 16. Hawking solved rudimentary mathematical equations. He married Jane Wilde on 14 July, 1965. The first years after their marriage were hectic. Hawking has achieved many things in the field of science in spite of his prolonged illness. He has been suffering from an incurable disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which has weakened his muscles since he was 17 years old. Stephen Hawking is known for his work regarding black holes and for authoring several popular science books. In 1974, Hawking’s research turned him into a celebrity within the scientific world when he showed that black holes are not the information vacuums that scientists had thought they were. In simple terms, Hawking demonstrated that matter, in the form of radiation, can escape the gravitational force of a collapsed star. Thus Hawking Radiation was invented. As a mark of his eminence, Professor Hawking obtained twelve honorary degrees which he deserved. He was named a Fellow of the Royal Society at the age of 32, and later earned the prestigious Albert Einstein Award. In 1975, Hawking journeyed to Rome, where he was honoured with the Pius XI – Gold Medal for science from Pope Paul VI in 1975. |

Write a letter to the eidtor of a newspaper about the bad condition of road and the uncleanliness in your locality. |
Answer» Old Guntur, Guntur. 20th September, 20xx. To The Editor, The Hindu, Vijayawada. Sir, I have been a sincere reader of your esteemed daily for the last five years Through the columns of five years. Through the columns of your daily, I would like to draw the attention of the public as well as concerned authorities towards the bad condition of roads and the uncleanliness in our locality. I am a resident of Old Guntur, Guntur. We are suffering a lot due to the negligence of the Municipal workers. There are large pits in roads. Some roads have potholes and ditches. There is an increase in the number of accidents in our locality due to these bad road conditions. Water gets stagnated. During the monsoon-season, water gets clogged in the road pits. Recently, a girl has fallen into a ditch. Thank God, a cyclist has seen it and saved her. The sweepers are not regular to their duties. Once in a week, they come in a casual way. There are piles of garbage at every corner emitting foul smell. These corners attract flies and mosquitoes in large number. If the same state of affairs continues, I am afraid that some diseases may spread. All these things lead to health hazard. Another problem is that the street lights are not functioning properly. It also leads to the accidents. I have already lodged complaints with the officials several times but in vain. Hence I request the concerned authorities to take necessary steps in this regard. Yours truly, xxxx |

Write a letter to your friend Srinivas explaining him the importance of planting trees and the advantages of plants. |
Answer» Tenali. 20.07.20xx. Dear Srinivas, l am fine and I hope the same with you. In this letter I would like to share my views on the importance of planting trees and the advantages of plants. We are all aware that trees are the most useful things in the world. Trees breathe in carbon dioxide Trees breathe in carbon dioxide and let out oxygen. They give us fruit to eat and firewood to burn. We build houses and make furniture with the wood of the trees. They help us get rain. Some trees give us medicines. But the man is cutting down trees indiscriminately and causing disturbance in the ecological balance. As a result, temperatures are mounting up. Nowadays people are suffering from perishing heat. Rains are meagre, no greenery is found in most of the areas. If there were no trees, there would be no life on earth. It is our responsibility to save trees. We should act immediately and plant a large number of trees in our surroundings. The government should pay full attention on tree plantation. Voluntary organisations also should take active part in it. Recently our school organised a tree plantation week. All the students of our school participated in it and made it grand success. I hope you agree with my views. Convey my regards to your parents and wishes to sister. Awaiting your reply, Yours lovingly, xxxx your own address, state 31st march, 2022 Dear srinivas, How are you? I hope you are doing well. Today I am writing this letter to you to tell you the importance of planting trees and their advantages. Trees are the most vital part of humans’ life. That’s why it’s known as the best friend of human beings. We are either directly or indirectly dependent on trees in terms of everything. We consume trees either directly or we consume animals who are directly dependent on trees. The dresses we wear are made of cotton or jute that are obtained directly indirectly from trees. In hilly areas, people make their houses from wood collected directly from trees. The papers that are the most essential for education are nothing but are obtained from special types of trees. If trees become non-existent, civilization will also no longer exist. They provide us oxygen ,fruits, shade in scorching heat, absorb co2, woods for manufacturing ,papers , reducing pollution maintain balance in the ecosystem .So, the significance of trees and their advantages is enormous. That’s why planting and conserving trees are the fundamental duty of every human being in the world. I hope you would understand the importance of plants and would agree with my views. Convey my best regards to your parents . Your loving friend sujal narayana

What estimate do you form of Gerrard’s character from the play ‘If I Were You’? |
Answer» Gerrard was very intelligent. He had great presence of mind. And he had a sense of humour also. The intruder enters his house. He has a revolver in his hand. But Gerrard doesn’t get afraid. He remains calm. He keeps his presence of mind. He talks to the intruder in a pleasant manner. He even tries to be humorous. He never lets the situation become very serious. He never says anything that can make the intruder very angry. He wins the intruder’s confidence. He gets everything out of him. Then he makes up a clever story. The intruder is taken in by it. He gets locked in the cupboard. All this shows how intelligent Gerrard is. He is a stage artist. But in real life also, he proves a great actor. |

After you have made a choice do you always think about what might have been, or do you accept the reality? |
Answer» Taking a decision sometimes makes or mars our future. Having made a choice, I accept the reality. Reconsidering a decision or contemplating over it is not a positive approach towards life. Such thoughts never allow us to be happy with what we have gained from our decision. Therefore, I believe in sticking to my decisions. |

Is there any difference between the two roads as the poet describes them-(i) In Stanzas two and three?(ii) In the last two lines of the poem? |
Answer» 1. In stanza two, the poet explains that the only difference between the two roads was that the road he took had the right to be chosen (the better claim) because it was grassy and it had not been used too much. 2. In the last two lines of the poem, the poet says that there is a difference between the two roads as the road he had taken was less travelled by other people and it made all the difference to his journey. |

Have you ever had to make a difficult choice (or do you think you will have difficult choices to make)? How will you make the choice (for what reasons)? |
Answer» No, till now I have never been in a situation in which I had to make a difficult choice. Perhaps I am still too young to make an independent choice. Yes, I think sooner or later I will have difficult choices to make. After completing my general education, I will have to make choice of profession whether I should become an engineer or doctor or something else. I will have hundreds of options before me. Then it will be difficult to make a choice between them. I will make choice according to my capabilities and strong points at that time. I will choose a path that gives me satisfaction and mental peace. I will not join the rat race for money. Like the poet in poem, I will choose a challenging and unexplored path in my life. |
