संवेदक संवेदक वह उपकरण/युक्ति है जो विद्युत-चुम्बकीय विकिरण ऊर्जा को एकत्रित करते हैं, उन्हें संकेतकों में बदलते हैं तथा उपयुक्त आकारों में प्रस्तुत करते हैं। आँकड़ा उत्पाद के आधार पर संवेदक दो प्रकारे के होते हैं
⦁    फोटोग्राफी संवेदक (कैमरा) तथा
⦁    आंकिक संवेदक (स्कैनर)।

फोटोग्राफी संवेदक (कैमरा) किसी भी लक्ष्य बिन्दुओं को एक क्षण में अभिलेखित कर लेता है, जबकि आंकिक संवेदक लक्ष्य के प्रतिबिम्ब को पंक्ति-दर-पंक्ति अभिलेखित करता है। सुदूर संवेदन उपग्रहों में आंकिक संवेदक का ही प्रयोग अधिक किया जाता है।

संवेदन विभेदन

सुदूर संवेदक धरातलीय (Spatial), वर्णक्रमीय (Spectral) तथा विकिरणमितीय विभेदनयुक्त होते हैं, जो विभिन्न धरातलीय अवस्थाओं से सम्बन्धित उपयोगी जानकारी प्रदान करते हैं

1. धरातलीय विभेदन-धरातलीय विभेदन भू-पृष्ठ पर दो साथ-साथ स्थित परन्तु भिन्न वस्तुओं को पहचानने की संवेदक क्षमता से सम्बन्धित है। यह एक नियम है कि धरातलीय विभेदन बढ़ने के साथ भू-पृष्ठ की छोटी-से-छोटी चीज को पहचानना व स्पष्ट रूप से देखा जाना सम्भव हो सकता है। हमारी आँखों पर लगने वाला चश्मा इसी कार्य को करता है तभी हम चश्मे के प्रयोग से पुस्तक में लिखे अक्षरों को स्पष्ट रूप से पढ़ते हैं।

2. वर्णक्रमीय स्पेक्ट्रम विभेदन-यह विद्युत चुम्बकीय स्पेक्ट्रम के विभिन्न ऊर्जा क्षेत्रों (बैंड) में संवेदक के अभिलेखन की क्षमता से सम्बन्धित है। जिस प्रकार तरंगों के प्रकीर्णने से इन्द्रधनुष बनता है या हम प्रयोगशाला में प्रिज्म का प्रयोग करते हैं, उसी सिद्धान्त के विस्तृत प्रयोग से हम इन मल्टीस्पेक्ट्रल प्रतिबिम्बों को प्राप्त करते हैं।

3. रेडियोमीटिक विभेदन-विकिरणमितीय या रेडियोमीट्रिक विभेदन संवेदक की दो भिन्न लक्ष्यों की भिन्नता को पहचानने सम्बन्धित है। जितना रेडियोमीट्रिक विभेदन अधिक होगा, विकिरण अन्तर उतना ही कम होगा। इससे दो लक्ष्य क्षेत्रों के मध्य अन्तर को जाना जा सकता है।
