Hey, I`m having problem with a locked folder too. I've used Folder Locker 2.0.0.5 to ENCRYPT it (with pass) and now there's just a "Folder LATCH" to download, that isn't COMPATIBLE with older FILES... I can't find the old Folder Locker to uncrypt my folder. Any help, please??

Hiya gentlemen! I am looking at my rescue cd's ...can anyone tell me the difference between a 'Win 7 System Repair Disk' and a 'Bootable Recovery Disk' and how do I make the second please? I have made a 'Repair Disk' and a friend mentioned a 'Bootable Recovery' disk. Are they one in the same fellas' WELL Guys.... Do I smell or sumthing ?// Well... we don't know the answer.

Now the definition between 'boot' and 'repair' is very thin I grant you, but there IS a difference:

Usually I press and hold Alt and click on 0189 (on the EXTREME right side of the keyboard) to type the symbol for one-half.

Suddenly, it is not working anymore.

I am left with a blank space on the monitor!

Fewer keystrokes, but a different end result.

The two methods give me the same result in Word 2007. In WordPad and Notepad, Alt 0189 yields the same looking fraction as the first one in your image, which is what Word displays.

Between the field braces, type the following

EQ \F(a,b)

where a and b are the numerator and denominator of the fraction.

I created a newsletter in PUBLISHER 2003 and it used to send on my old computer, but on my windows 7 HP when I hit "send as message" it goes nowhere. For best results, Outlook 2003 should probably be used so that the two are compatible. Hi: I recently update my notebook to Windows 8.1 after repeated prompting from Microsoft. Since I wasn't comfortable with 8, I hoped this would be better. One thing that seems to have happened is that my Microsoft "Outlook Web App" mail now seems to run very slowly when connecting to the internet. I don't know if my router (Zyxel) isn't matching with 8.1 or if there is a problem with 8.1 and the MS Outlook Web app. At any rate, because I use this for work and need and sometimes it even times out and I have to REWRITE letters to wait and wait until a letter actually is sent, I'm thinking I should revert to Windows 8.

My questions:
1. Does it make sense to THINK that the sudden slowness of my mail app is related to 8.1 (started the same day as the new download).
2. How can I go back to Windows 8. I don't have a reset date, or whatever that's CALLED, where you can tell the computer to go back to some prior date. I did set one up now, but of course I'm already in 8.1

Hello everyone,

So for the past couple of years I've used paint.net to make graphics on my computer, and I've gotten to know it very well, and didn't think I'd ever need to explore NEW possibilities. Well, some months ago it just decided to not work anymore. I was in the middle of working on a project for school, and when I opened it to start working again, it crashed as soon as I tried to open up my FILE. No, they're not corrupt, I've used them on other computers that are running the program just fine, and was able to do it that way. The issue here is that I want it on my desktop that has the specs to actually run the program through heavy editing, which my laptop is pretty poor at. So right now that's my only option, and I really want to get this issue solved.

So to reiterate, whenever I try to open a file, the program crashes, and I can't do anything to get around it. I can actually make something new, but I can't save or else it will crash then, which isn't worth the work even for a screencap. Apparently the issue is some kind of a GDI+ issue that should have been solved when I put a new GDI+ file into my system32 (there were NO issues after I restarted), since apparently I didn't have one there. So now after uninstalling and reinstalling hundreds of times, and looking into everything, I've turned up blank and I really have nowhere else to turn. The forums never responded, the program dev didn't respond, nothing. So I'd love it if anyone had a clue as to what I could try to make the darned program work.

If anyone has any clue of what to do, please tell me, I will be extremely thankful for a permanent solution.It seems like it is CRASHING trying to create the MRU entry in the registry.

I would suggest deleting the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Paint.NET registry key. This key stores Paint.NET preferences as well, so keep that in MIND since they will be reset.

It seems to me that one of the files listed in your MRU are corrupted. There is no MRU thumbnail information, so Paint.NET reads the file and tries to save it as a thumbnail. The Exception occurs when it saves because GDI+ DEFERS the actual decoding to when the bits are needed (which in this case is when it get's written elsewhere).

Side note: Paint.NET/.NET itself does NOT use GdiPlus.dll from the System32 folder. GdiPlus.dll is loaded from the Windows Side-by-side install. eg. in my case inspecting through Process Explorer, Paint.NET 3.5.11 loaded "C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.windows.gdiplus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.1.7601.18120_none_2b25b14c71ebf230\GdiPlus.dll"

There are a few other folders with similar names in the winsxs folder. basically the application (Paint.NET) specifies in it's manifest what Library it needs, and Windows will load that particular version.

One possibility is that for whatever reason you have opened one of the files Paint.NET uses for storing thumbnails in Paint.NET. Though I doubt that is the case.


Another option is to reinstall the .NET Framework. Uninstall Paint.NET, Uninstall all versions of the .NET Framewrok you have installed and then install 3.5 (the version Paint.NET uses). and then reinstall Paint.NET and see if that helps.




I've already gone in and deleted the registry entry and subkeys, but it still crashes. I'm removing .NET and will install 3.5 tomorrow, along with paint.net. I'll let you know if anything changed or worked tomorrow, thanks for the reply!

P.S. Would it be a better idea to try installing paint.net 3.5.1 instead of the pre-release? Getting the pre-release was one of the last ideas I had before coming to this forum, so I don't know if I'm better off with a slightly more dated program, or if I'm fine with whichever.I uninstalled paint.net, got rid of the framework, and reinstalled paint.net (which installs the framework automatically), and it still turns up the same issue. Any other options?Other options I can think of are:

1.) Repair the Windows installation. *This should fix the issue, but may not.

2.) Install a clean install of Windows after first backing up your important data to an external drive. * This will definately fix the issue after a full clean install of OS and Programs clean.You may need an older ver. of .net installed...An sfc /scannow could help also.I'm probably not going to reinstall windows, I can possibly try an older .net version, and I've done sfc /scannow before, but I'll run it now anyway.

I would like to download a computer game from Amazon as the game I want can only be downloaded. They don't sell a physical CD for this PARTICULAR game. My QUESTION is: Can I download this to a CD, DVD, or a FlashDrive so that if my computer crashes or whatever, I won't lose the game? If I can download it to a CD, DVD, or FlashDrive, can it be loaded onto my computer from either of those?
Thank youIt depends on how they offer this game. Most these days have an installer that you download and have to run which is like say 12MB in size and then once that is installed it then creates a download of the rest of the game and this installer also USUALLY has a utility built into it to check your install against the server and manage the updates of future launches.

For games like this its best to copy the entirety of the game to an external hard drive or LARGE 32GB flash drive. Then later if you find yourself having to reinstall the game, you can copy and paste the programs entirety to the location such as in program files of windows and usually you can create a shortcut to the launcher or the exe of the program to desktop and launch it and it will either run or run and require updates.

However if the game needs registry entries or to be added to a game client database such as what steam does with the steam client, usually you can tell it to install the game, then when it gets to the downloading portion. Abort the download, then copy the game to its normal default install location, and then restart the game client like steam has and it will pick up where it left off with attempting to download the game, BUT the game will be there and so it will shoot from 2% to 100% and register the game and you can play it.

Different games are easier than others to do this with, but most these days that are games purchased have piracy controls in them to make it difficult to copy the game files to a CD or DVD etc to be able to be installed later with ease. They generally need some tweaking or trickery to make them work as examples I stated above.

Very few games will allow for you to copy the entirety of the game to a external and then to another and run without problems without an install needed to register the game with the OS. World of Warcraft is one of the few that is easily transferrable, but not offered by amazon. They try to avoid piracy by requiring server authentication when starting the game.Please don't post the same question more than once. I locked the duplicate thread.

I would like to set up a spreadsheet (I'm using Open OFFICE 3.0.0) to track expenses. Say I have something like this:

1/15/14 10 gas
1/20/14 25 food
2/01/14 20 gas

I'm already familiar with basic spreadsheet formulas like SUM. But I want to set up Sheet2 so that it will automatically find rows in Sheet1 containing the word "gas" and total up the CORRESPONDING dollar amounts. Same for "food" and whatever else I decide to put in. It would be even more cool if it could look at the DATE as well and give me sub-totals for each month.Excel has logic for IF THEN calculations, but never did it with the CALC Oopen Office spreadsheet, however it should work using the same instructions as Excel uses.

Problem

I will try to explain as best I can - It is using Excel, I am using version 14.0.6112.5000 (32-bit) if that means anything to anyone

I have a list of figures in column A

I am trying to write an excel formula that will check what figure is in the relevant cell in column A and depending on the figure, will display a different result.
(hope that makes sense)

The figures in column A vary depending on a multitude of other factors, so the formula needs to be fairly adaptable to cover a fairly wide number of possibilities.

Example:

Cell A1:A50 have the variable figures (approximately from numbers 1-10)

Cells B1:B50 have names (these are fixed names)

In C1:C50+ will be displayed the Name depending on the number displayed in column A

So if A1 has 3 and B1 has John - Cells C1:C3 will display John

If A1 has 2 and B1 has John - Cells C1:C2 will display John

In addition, if A1 has 3 and B1 has John
A2 has 2 and B2 has Chris
A3 has 4 and B3 has James

C1:C9 would look like:

and so on

in my head it seems like it would work using lots of IF / AND / OR functions, but I cant get my head around how it should look?

I was messing around with it to make a schedule application in which I had employees who were qualified on specific machinery to service, and when someone called in sick or was taking scheduled leave I wanted to make an excel SPREADSHEET that I would simply plug in the schedule at the top of the spreadsheet for that week , and down below the logic would assign technicians to each of the machines that required PM maintenance. However the complexity of having 70 employees to account for and having to set all the logic the idea that I had to make it much simpler to schedule was now a full blown project and the logic of IF, THEN, and ELSE was getting really COMPLICATED when you have people of varying qualifications where one guy who was qualified on one machine, but only a partial of another, now you needed to add extra logic rules that apply to the tasks of the partial of that machine etc.

Long story short. I ended up throwing the towel in on the Excel idea to use logic because even though I started small with it to handle manageable pieces of it such as to only set the logic for one specific machine and all employees who were qualified to work on that machine, the logic instructions I entered into Excel 2003 looked to me to be correct, but it would work but then not work, and when it didnt work with a specific combination the reasoning behind the malfunction was not standing out. Since I know how to program in C++ I ended up programming it up in that and imported the schedule as a CSV file to import to my C++ program that was comma delimited, and then it would display the results and I could print or save the results and that worked out much better and was correct. It also imported a CSV file of employees qualifications so it used that to pair up the correct employee to machinery that they are qualified for. I also was able to expand on this program and assign work hours to have rules so that a machine that required only a 3.4 hour route, this tech would show as available to take on 4.1 hours of additional duties in the 7.5 hour day with 2 x paid 15 minute breaks in the 8 hour day. So I then was able to assign multiple machines automatically and load balance with the logic vs one person getting tons of work and another getting an easier day to keep it fair. The employees were very happy that this program was implemented since it keep everything fair and the mismanagement problem was now gone since the supervisor was able to run this program and it spit out what everyone should be doing since it was too much for this supervisor to handle themselves on a daily basis.

*** I probably could have fixed the logic problems in my spreadsheet, but due to the frustration with the logic acting up and the cause not very clear since the logic when looked over looked correct. And I had to PRODUCE something that worked for the supervisor. I ended up switching to C++ instead and was able to hammer it out pretty quickly and when looking at the source code I knew exactly what was happening and why vs why is this logic in excel not working and searching google for anyone else with similar problems with Excel 2003 and what I was trying to accomplish.

Can you share copy/pastes of the logic instructions you are using that are malfunctioning for us to look over? Maybe there is a simple problem to point out or a better method to use for rules.

From my experience with Excel and logic like this, its best to start as small as possible and get that portion to work and then move on adding more and more logic rules, so that when a problem occurs your looking at the newly introduced logic with the prior logic and its slighly easier to manage problems. Maybe your logic wont run into the same problems I had, but I had a list of logic that was possibly exceeding the limits of Excel with single line long form logic in each of the logic cells, and then based on the output from those cells, another cell with other logic instructions were then happening and the malfunctions I had may have been pushing excel beyond what it was capable of with logic as well as with logic with dependencies on states of other calculations I was almost wondering if the malfunction was because it was getting the buggy before the horse vs the horse before the buggy which would cause for malfunction of the logic rules that looked fine in excel, but excel was running with it incorrectly to that of what the intent was.

Also, VBA can be used for very complex things.

Whew - Anyone else exhausted yet?!

Hi. I am really hoping someone can help me with this as I've had no luck anywhere else. Here's the trouble: anything I plug into my COMPUTER (kindle, external hard drive, etc.) is only partially recognized by my computer but is UNABLE to be accessed in any way. For example, when I attach my kindle, the computer recognizes it insofar as it DINGS and shows the icon to 'safely remove hardware' but when I go to remove the hardware it does not appear there, nor is it shown under 'my computer' where USUALLY I can gain access to any device. I have followed all the standard instructions for when a device is not recognized at all, but in this case it doesn't do anything, as the computer is somehow recognizing something but not all of it (the drivers for the devices are there). I am hoping that it is just a simple software thing, perhaps I deleted something accidentally. But until I fix this I can't transfer books to my new and empty kindle and I can't backup any of my files.

Please oh please help!

All of a sudden, I cannot open ANY Microsoft Office documents that I have saved on my COMPUTER. Even if I create a new document, save it, and close it, I am not ABLE to open it a minute later. Did you make any software changes to your computer just before this problem started? What protection apps (anti-virus, anti-malware) do you use? In Word this will happen if the file path is way too long...

I downloaded Spotify yesterday and have had problems from the start. I was finally able to install it, but only in safe mode. Now when I try to open it (or Open as administrator) I get a MESSAGE "This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator."

This is my private DELL Inspiron laptop. I'm not part of a domain and, as far as I'm aware, the only system administrator is ME.

Any ideas out there?Have you contacted the Spotify vendor to see if they have any solutions for this? I have played music through the web but have not purchased the subscription yet. I have been able to play music with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit at their website with no problems such as the group Amaranthe.

Only drawback to no subscription is that I get the occasional commercial on like EVERY 3rd song played and DONT have ACCESS to everything but a smaller selection of music.

A google search shows lots of info on this specific issue. Have you checked into those hits on this group policy problem?

I have 20+ clients and I have a little checklist that has to be followed weekly. it is designed as a quality control tool so ENSURE proper steps are followed when handling client accounts.

In an ideal world, once one of the checkboxes is engaged there'd be a place to add text so if I check Training Needs, then I can add notes to give it context.

The basic goal is to fill one of these out per week per client and have it be in a master sheet. The master sheet should be filterable by date so we can pick and choose our views.

Ideally, all 20 + clients on the same work sheet.

So, what is your question? Have you taken any action on developing this on Google yet? I have the form.

What I am asking is if it's possible to ACCOMPLISH the population part with regards to the spreadsheet and if so how do I do it.I have very limited experience with so I cannot give in-depth ADVICE. I looked a bit and didn't find another thread about this - so sorry if I missed its existence MODs.

So I had upgraded a machine from Office 2000 to Office 2010. When upgrading Outlook I was able to import pretty much everything from the existing installations of Outlook (used for organizing, scheduling, contacts etc) and Outlook Express (used for email). Now in addition to the usual email contacts, there were also 3 other address books. SAY for example something like this:

VENDORS - Outlook Data File
Clients - Outlook Data File
Contacts - Outlook Data File

One day - POOF! The contacts for the Outlook Data File entries were just gone. Not only was Contacts - Outlook Data File blank, but Vendors and Clients was outright gone!

Anyway, I've CHECKED every .pst I can find, and none of them seem to contain these address books... so any ideas? They were not found in any of Deleted Items or Trash folders... and I haven't been able to find them anywhere... It's quite perplexing...

So yeah... if you have any advice on things to check it's much APPRECIATED - if not I can do a system restore and see what I can find.

For along time now I have yellow exclamation marks on wanports2,3,4, It only sometimes that it takes a long time to connect to internet via aol so I WONDERING has this got anything to with this niggling problem or is it something else. For years I was aol and changed to taklktalk. though they are the same company the deals was a bit cheaper. Though I am with talktalk I still use aol software,but cannot seem to get any help from them. It is one of those problems that does not affect me all that much, it ought to be working so I want it to, as a 5year old would put it lol

When I check fro the drivers it says I have the right up to date one INSTALLED. I have tried looking on the net but all it tells me to do is download and install Reg-cure, as I have already got tune up, Malwearbites, driver updates, none of them can solve this problem. To the modorators of this site I mut say that I have checked for questions asked on this subject but I cannot remember if anything was found, I have checked that many sites and a lot of it goes over my head, awe the poor old g*t lol So if anyone thinks I am worrying about nothing or can solve my problem please help. DLoad and install whichever ones show up as missing in Control Panel/Device Manager...I did what you said but could not find the driver that I wanted. Downloaded their system scan unfortunaley the result came back as I am still on Vista. I suppose this makes any result invalid.

The list is not easy to understand. To solve just one issue, one may have to try two or three attempts to find the exact driver needed. And they are interrelated. Example, both Chipset and Network are needed to get the right Wan miniport.

i need some sort of program that plays the movie from windows media player even when it is minimized on my laptop, is this possible ?Ain't gonna happen...Not going to happen with current hardware using HDMI out of laptop. However; I have seen this done by adding and using a USB Video Adapter on a USB 2.0 port, ( BUT ) the quality of the video to the TV was not perfect and LOOKED more like 360p. However if one had a computer monitor to make this laptop like a desktop and used the USB VGA adapter to TYPE up documents using a desktop type monitor connected to the VGA off this USB VGA adapter, and then used the integrated HDMI for the TV which is teamed internally with the laptop display , then yes it would work and the movie would be crystal clear on the TV and the video quality of the USB VGA adapter would be ok enough to type up a word document etc.

Basically you would need to convert the laptop to acting like that of a desktop to achieve this from my experience with this you can do this by pressing Windows Key+P and selecting "Extend" instead of Duplicate. Then you can move your movie player to the Television screen.

Interesting of that fixes it.

In the past using the Fn key for display to be cloned or dual display not cloned with HDMI, the HDMI was acting teamed with the users display and wasnt able to be dual display extension. Also in windows under display properties with Windows 7 they werent able to make it happen. This was with a Toshiba Satellite. They ended up having to go with this USB VGA adapter to get around this.

Would be COOL if BC's Windows Key + P method works for them. Please reply back if that works or not

I use 2000 for one of my machines and Outlook Express 6 for emails.

When I logged on TODAY and started OE all my older emails were there but no new emails. So I closed out the program and started again. This time I got new emails but all my older ones disappeared! I closed out and tried again and the new ones disappeared too. The new ones have since returned but not the old ones.

The weird thing is that it's only happening to emails in my main Inbox folder. All other email accounts/folders are fine.

I tried Nortons Systemworks 2006 and CCleaner but no luck getting my old emails back. I remembered a program called ScanDBX that fixed a virus or some problem I had years ago. Is that worth trying? My antivirus (AVAST) shows the machine virus-free.

Please help. I'd hate to think I lost 1000's of emails. : (
Does no one want to help? I'm not sure I can help. I used Outlook Express for years but have now been away from it for years; Outlook Express is not used in Windows systems newer than Windows XP.

See Where are the Outlook Express message databases stored? The location could be different because users can change the location. If you have not changed the default location, then you should be able to find the .dbx files used by Outlook Express to store messages. However, merely locating them will not be very helpful unless you can recover your lost messages. I think you may need a recovery tool such as the one at http://www.z-a-recovery.com/outlook-express-recovery.htm; it is not free but you can try it for free. I believe the free trial only allows retrieval of 9 messages; in other words, it gives you a chance to see how it works before paying for it.

Another idea the comes to mind is to install Mozilla Thunderbird and import your Outlook Express mail to it. I can't say for sure Thunderbird would be successful in importing all OE messages; I'm just SUGGESTING this as one approach that might recover your messages, albeit in Thunderbird, not OE. But, Thunderbird is a good email client and you might consider a permanent transition from OE to Thunderbird.

But, before any ATTEMPT to retrieve you OE messages, I suggest you BACKUP those .dbx files. Tools to do this can be obtained online from various sources, such as Backup4all, or you can manually do it, as explained at Question: How I can backup the Outlook Express dbx files by manually?

I purchased a Dell Optiplex 380 recently and it has "Old Republic Title" right above the Dell logo on the post screen
and I cannot seem to find out how to remove this annoying tag. I have updated to the latest BIOS, but nothing changes inside
to allow me to remove this tag. I have downloaded and installed the "Dell CCTK Configuration Tool", but also cannot figure out how to rid my system of this tag.

I'd say its PERMANENT without swapping the BIOS ROMs which today are usually soldered on permanent. However if they are socketed and you bought a DOA or had a DOA board to swap BIOS ROM with, this is the route I;d take, however, I'd just run it as is and go into bios and tell it to hide the logo if its an option and only display post info as my Biostar board has as an option, but OTHERS like HP and Dells might not have.See Here...

I got a copy of some software from "a friend" at class. He said he didn't need it, that it was good blah, blah, blah.
Needless to SAY it never really installed correctly. I uninstalled it. (using control panal)
(by the way I have Windows 7.)
Then I bought a good copy that I know should work, and install. Except it doesn't. After install the main screen "kinda" pops up except with nothing on it. (The little spinning "working" circle keeps spinning) It's supposed to ask me for the serial number, than I'm supposed to put it in and then it's supposed to work. period.

I just wanted a copy to learn on. I'm a Graphic Designer, so I know about intellectual property rights, and wouldn't use any software to make money. If I were to get paid, I'd then buy a copy from the company that made it. I FEEL strongly about that, but I also see nothing wrong with borrowing an older version to learn & do tutorials on.

Are there some 'hidden" files I can look for and delete myself that maybe "uninstall" doesn't get.

I say this because the registry in your Windows 0S may have remnants of the bad installation of the software you mentioned and those remnants may be the cause of the blocking of a fresh installation of the software.

So, I'll suggest the safest registry cleaner I know of. It is the registry cleaner in CCleaner. If you go to http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds and select the Slim build, you'll get the version that has no toolbar bundled with it. Or, if you download the standard installer (which has a toolbar, such as the oft-bundled Ask toolbar), you can unselect the toolbar when starting the installation of CCleaner.

After installing CCleaner, launch it and click the Registry button in the left column. Click the Scan for Issues button at the bottom of that screen. After the scan has completed, you can either have CCleaner remove all items it found by clicking Fix selected issues, and then Fix all issues, or you can removed the items one-by-one and selectively pick what to remove. I suggest allowing CCleaner to remove all items it found during the scan. CCleaner will prompt you to save/backup the registry before executing the fix, and you should do so.

ALTERNATIVELY, you could use the regedit command and manually search the registry but I recommend taking the easier path and using CCleaner's Registry cleaner.

Once you've completed the registry cleaning, try installing your software again. Quote

1. While typing a reply on this forum earlier, the keyboard was not inputting the correct characters. It was really acting weird.
2. When I tried to exit Firefox, it crashed 3 or 4 times writing profiles to the desktop.
3. Had no success in restoring the profiles, so decided to do Macrium restore on the Win7-64 partition. Image was CREATED 1 week ago.
4. The Linux restore disc booted but would not see the Western Digital My Passport 1TB USB3.0 drive. Did not see it in the USB 3.0 port or the 2.0 port.
5. When creating image from within Windows, no problem seeing & writing to USB3.0 disc.
6. Had a backup of the image on a WD Elements 320GB drive. Plugged it in while still booted to Linux restore. Did a rescan & the disc was seen with all the images.
7. Performed the image restore & all is back to normal.
8. The only solution Macrium has for this is on the paid version only. You have to use the WinPE build for the rescue disc.
9. Tried that & it still won't work.
10. Some users suggested copying the USB3.0 drivers to a directory on the C-drive which doesn't exist, so it may be only something that exists on the paid version.
11. This problem has been around for over a year & still hasn't been fixed.

Just thought you might want to know. Major Firefox crash & big Macrium bug, both on same night.Took a lot of searching to find something recent. No solution, only more confirmation of the issue.

Not only will it not work with Linux, it also won't work with WinPE which is 32-bit.
It's not like 64-bit Windows was only released last month.

Good thing for the 2nd backup drive.Tested it on a desktop computer. Same issue.

FOUND this on Macrium Support Forum, but it did not work. WD My Passport USB 3.0 drive not not recognized on the 3.0 port, it is seen on the 2.0 port.

A Windows Explorer search for "nusb3hub" found a directory hidden away at C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nusb3hub.inf_amd64_neutral_d58f2305638104e9 that contains 4 files:

nusb3hub.SYS

I copied those 4 files to C:\Boot\macrium\Drivers\USB then created a NEW Rescue CD (v5.0.4368) Success at last... It appears that the recent USB 3 "Fix" in v5.0.4354 includes only the USB 3 Controller Drivers, but without the Hub Drivers also loaded, then the USB 3 card can't see any connected devices. I think that only the .inf and .sys files are required, but hey, it's finally working.

This directory is hidden: C:\Boot\macrium\Drivers\USB
It was empty & I copied the 4 files as instructed. Also tried to "force" the driver to load & Macrium reports it's not the right one.

Am using Macrium Reflect ver. 5.1.5732
This issue is 2 years old & still not fixed.

Updated firmware on WD drive: No affect on anything.

If you build the rescue cd so it scans upon startup, it doesn't always find the network controllers, i.e. USB 3.0 is not the only bug.Got Windows PE to work by manually adding more USB driver files.
Still need to test if this build will work on WinXP-32bit. The USB card is also Atheros & the cpu is 64-bit.
Linux will not work until Macrium integrates all the drivers into the build.

No luck with Linux boot disk, finally successful with Windows PE boot disk, but had to hack it by copying drivers to a hidden directory so the WinPE build would find them. Neither the paid version nor the free version works properly. Macrium forums are only for paid but none of the support techs have found a solution. Their software is supposed to find the proper drivers & install them into the proper location during the boot disc build. It doesn't install any of them, USB, network; all build directories were empty. USB 2.0 must be built-in to WinPE, so it's not an issue.Date 30 March 2013

Is there way to transfer a document's material to an email and keep the formatting? I have graphics laid out in the word document and I can't FIGURE out a way to keep the CORRECT IMAGES & layout and transfer it to email. Is there another program I should be using? I need the shapes and graphics (some of which serve as hyperlinks) for the email, which is an ELECTRONIC flyer.

I'd save the document as a PDF which would retain all formatting ETC, and attach it to an e-mail. I added a new drive (D: ) to my desktop for some extra space & wanted to scan it for viruses, but all of the ones I have used only scan the C: drive.

All AV's allow you to select the drives to scan to the best of my knowledge.MSE installs right-click options in Windows Explorer so that you can right click a drive icon and choose "Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials...". I am pretty sure every AV app will let you scan all drives. They would be pointless otherwise. A quick Google seems to confirm this for Avira, Kaspersky, Norton and Avast.

Reasonably sure or definitely sure, or completely unsure, if you didn't have it installed, you definitely wouldn't have been able to scan it.

hey guys recently my escape key and the fkeys on my key bored have stopped working ive tried to REMAP the tghe escape key to CAPS lock with sharpkeys ( it has not worked) I have also tried to use the micsoft keybored layout creator to do this but tha does not allow me to remap the escape key . yeahh i know the simple answer is get a new keybored but right now i cant affored a new keybored so hence why ive tried REMAPPING. would any one be able to help me manualy remap the escape key to a key i really use on the keybored using regedit

This is normally used by people who write other languages. It may be used by writers who NEED special symbols available quickly. Otherwise, those who need symbols once in awhile might use the on screen keyboard and not mess with key layout.

I have been using Fraps to capture video game footage and then use VirtualDub to make a 10GB project into a 200MB video for youtube. As officer of our World of Warcraft Guild, one of my responsibilities is to use my more powerful than most others systems computer to capture the events such as raids, and share mainly with the guild members through youtube as a convenient free video sharing service, so that those who want to look back at the gameplay for laughs, curiosity into others actions at certain parts of the battle etc, or see what they missed out on and view a weekly raid that they were not able to participate in, but can chat with others after the fact about it as a spectator to the run.

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a process that might run faster than VirtualDub. A 20 minute video of a guild raid to post and share for everyone to look at the weekly raid on youtube takes a long period of time, sometimes up to an hour to process, to take from 10GB of raw data and form it into a somewhat normal 200MB video.

Here is some info on settings and hardware:

Settings:
Capturing at 30fps in FRAPS, originally I was capturing at 60fps, but the files were insanely huge, reduced to 20fps and noticed some stutter in the video, and brought it to 30fps where it seems the best for smoothness and size ( FRAPS is the latest registered version, as for I own a license to software)

Converting/Encoding raw unencoded fraps video file to H.264/MPEG-4 in VirtualDub Video Compression option from drop down. (This format seems to be the smallest I can compress/encode this to without NOTICING loss of quality blur/pixelation etc.

Hardware:
Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz
3GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
500 GB SATA II HDD @100GB free
Windows 7 32-bit

*During the CONVERSION process my hard drive LED is lit constantly as for this process is very hard drive intensive reading and writing large amounts of data. I set the speed setting in VirtualDub to maximum speed, but processing priority for the service as Normal. The CPU idles around 30% usage with activity of all 4 CORES on the CPU gadget that I have on my desktop that I chose not to remove even though MS struck fear in everyone that gadgets are all bad.

* I am thinking that maybe this process cant be increased in speed since the hard drive read/writes are probably the bottleneck in this process, but figured I'd post here in case anyone has any suggestions of a better setting combination to try, different format to try, or different converter to try other than VirtualDub.

* Had thoughts a year or so ago about maybe using a video capture card on a 2nd computer that is getting a feed off of the dual DVI in which one DVI goes to my 19" display and the other feeds the cloned display directly to the capture card, but I couldnt find an inexpensive way to achieve this and most cature cards out there are not intended for computer video capturing, but instead composite or coax which is to be used to record TV, Cable, and convert home videos from Tape to Digital. So I decided to stick it out with FRAPS which works well, although seems kind of abusive to the hard drive when using it and when converting the files afterwards.

This statement of "No matter the source or target", it will transfer and work seems amazing if it works as stated. In the past when someone performed a hard drive install to new hardware, I would have to assist them through a repair installation, especially if there was a great difference between processors such as one client who had an old 800Mhz AMD Athlon and the SYSTEM died due to hardware ( motherboard ) failure and he wanted everything to be back just the way it was and he had a Pentium 4 computer available to become what the old computer once was and so I assisted him in getting his computer back up and running with newer FASTER GUTS with same OS and software without having to reinstall and reconfigure all software of which some software the installation discs were no where to be found and the software packages were like $1000 to replace.

This software also works to assist in cloning a system to become a virtual system, which is a big plus when Microsoft pulled the plug on Virtual PC 2007 which I was using for virtual machines.

Curious as to if anyone has used this software to comment on if it is as good as it is advertised?

So the drive boots up into windows, then you would need to reactivate windows and load the manufactures drivers.
If you think it is amazing it is.
It's a must for every Technician.

The software will make virtual images but doesn't have the virtual machine software you still need either a free vm software or something like vmware to run the virtual image.

I have Windows XP SP3 32-bit system - with MS Security Essentials scheduled scan set for 4.00 every day, yet often when I start, the MSSE icon warns me that my pc is potentially unprotected because a scan hasn't been run for some time, and I have to manually initiate a scan. The only other security programs I have are Windows Firewall and Malwarebytes (free VERSION), which I BELIEVE is compatible. The pc is switched off at the time of the scan.

There is what I have always taken to be a standby light on the monitor and that is on all the time. Also the router connection to the internet seems to be working away whether the pc is on or off. I always thought that was to get updates and amendments at these " out of hours" times. Am I wrong about this?

I create a MS ACCESS 2007 file for input our customer information. It's look LIKE Contacts.accdb Templates, but have some more.
OK, after I inter customer info into MS Access 2007 Form, I want to print information of that customer on pre-printed papers (or registration paper forms). So, I create a blank report and put cells of the MS Access Table into specific position to meet blank spaces in registration paper forms.
Here I have two problems.
1-When I create that report and choose Preview Report Button, Report View SHOW me three pages that first one have cells of customer info but 2th and 3th pages are blank. I create a report that fit in one page, so how can I remove 2 and 3th blank pages?
2-When I inter second and more customer info into Access Form and choose Preview Report Button, Report View show me all inputted records in 6, 9, 12 … pages. So, I have to go three last pages to find the current record. In abstract, I need to create report only for currently inputted record and not for all. How can I do that?

So after hours upon hours of scouring the internet, I've finally manned up enough to post on a forum.

Basically, I switched back to Windows 7 from Windows 8 recently. Everything went smooth, installation was fine, everything seemed good. Then I went to load up a couple of websites that run on Java (after I had installed it) and they won't load. For an entire website on javascript (like a web irc client (gamesurge)), the page was just an eternal white screen. I've tried every version of Java for Windows I could think of. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, turned off adblock, enabled java, disabled java, always allowed java...everything in the book and it just won't work for any browser on either 32x or 64x. The main example is GameSurge webchat (which i use for comp video game in-house pugs and stuff), but other THINGS won't work either. It's pretty random and weird.

It's weird, because things like Minecraft run fine (although I know that Java and Javascript are two different things).

I just hope I can find a solution; I really don't WANT to go back to Win 8 just for Java (an option that's not even available because lol product keys).

I can't get any javascript console output, it's almost like it's not running Java but it kind of is...it's hard to explain.

A few times a week a group of us gamers get together for gaming and I record the events using my licensed copy of FRAPS. After the event is over with I have recorded the multiplayer gameplay in a file that is anywheres from 20GB to 50GB in size. I have been compressing these recorded gameplays to AVI files using VirtualDub which does a great job of making a 20GB uncompressed video recording at 30fps size compressed down to around 800MB without loss of noticable quality. I then post them on youtube for the group to view the gameplay and point out what can be done better next time etc.

Generally the conversion process is quite long, like 3 hours to compress the uncompressed 20GB raw video/audio footage down to 800MB and then delete the raw uncompressed video after confirming that the compressed 800MB video is a flawless compression.

The system I have been recording the gameplay on as well as compressing the videos afterwards is the following hardware specs. While this system is dated, a system I bought the guts for and assembled inexensively in April 2009, I am trying to figure out why its not using the full CPU processing power as the CPU monitor indicates? :

Athlon x2 4450B 2.3Ghz CPU (AM2 socket) with 1MB L2 Cache
BIOSTAR MCP6PB M2+ (AM2+) motherboard
3GB DDR2 800Mhz Corsair XMS2 RAM ( *4GB installed 2 matched sticks, but 32-bit Win 7 limitation )
ASUS ATI Radeon HD5450 video card with 512MB RAM
500GB SATA II HDD
Windows 7 Home 32-bit

* The memory available through this compression conversion process remains at 1.2GB free of 3GB, so I know that I am not running into a memory bottleneck of capacity available.

I have the CPU MONITORING gadget on my desktop and when I set the speed on VirtualDub to maximum for processing speed with the slider and highest processing priority in the options, I dont see any noticable change in changing it from Normal to Highest Priority, it seems like the slider for the execution speed of the conversion process is the only feature that I see the CPU % decrease or increase with for both cores.

The maximum I can get VirtualDub to use of the CPU is around 65%, so to me there is around 35% wasted processing power maybe.

The hard drive is not flooded with traffic during this conversion process so I am trying to figure out where the bottleneck is to make the CPU only run maximum of 65% when this is the only application running.

This system is strong enough that with 65% used in the compression conversion process, the 35% unused I can launch a game and play without lag pegging the CPU cores to 100%. Maybe VirtualDub was designed specifically to allow for multitasking to exist with it running, but for times when you want to compress a video asap, it would be nice to be able to tell the software to use 100% of the CPU processing power vs cap out at 65%.

*Also to note that I do not have Coon'n Quiet enabled so the CPU remains at 2300Mhz all the time vs speed stepping. In the past I used the Cool'n Quiet feature, but this system doesnt have to run green as for when it is in use, it is in use, and when it is not I shut it down vs leaving it idle.

In the past I have also been able to run more than one conversion instance at the same time, such as if I am compressing the video for 2 raw videos at the same time, and I can peg both cores to 100% for a period of time of 1 to 3 hours depending on the size of the videos to be processed and the system runs perfectly fine and temps stay good with the CPU and other hardware. I also during this time can surf the web if needed so it appears to not hold the system down, but allows for other processes/applications to co-exist without much lag in launching the application such as firefox etc.

While most conversions I start before bed and let it crunch it out while I SLEEP and WAKE up the next day to process complete, there are some times during the day when I want to compress them from their raw form and post them on youtube, and I have to wait for it to crunch it out. So it would be nice if there was a way to get it to use more of the available CPU processing power to complete in less time when I dont need the computer for other multitasking purposes except for the single task to to crunch through this compression process.

I have a Shuttle SN78SH7 with a Phenom II 3.0 GHz CPU and 4 GB RAM.

Using the fastest speed settings in Vdub (the slider all the way to the right):

With the default settings (Video Compression Threads=0, Video filter threading=disabled), transcoding a randomly selected mpeg-2 file to DivX mpeg-4 with arbitrary video & audio codec compression settings uses around 48%-50% cpu (equally shared between the 4 cores), rendering speed around 78-80 fps.

When I change the settings to Video Compression Threads=1, Video filter threading=4 threads with the same compression settings I get the CPU usage up to 98% (essentially pegging all 4 cores) and the rendering rate up to 100-105 fps.

Watch your CPU temp though.

Bear in mind that heavy audio compression in the output file will slow the whole thing down; i.e. PCM will transcode faster than mp3, no audio is fastest of all.
Thanks for the quick response Salmon. I was not aware of this adjustment and will try it out tonight. In regards to concern about watching the CPU temp, I have pegged this CPU to 100% for 3 hrs straight before when playing games at the same time as processing a video compression and according to speedfan the hottest the CPU gets is 48C with 37C at idle with the graphing enabled to look back at recorded temps over time with game full screen.

From the thread change to 1, and your results, it looks like that should fix it.

Another thought... I believe that - like my Phenom - your Athlon x2 has Cool 'n' Quiet technology. I expect you will surely have it enabled in the BIOS and that you are using the High Performance power plan in Control Panel/Power Options. I use VirtualDub much less these days, even though it is a fine piece of software, because I now have a smart TV with network and USB which can play just about anything I put on my NAS or on a pen drive, so that I hardly need to transcode anything, and secondly that if you don't mind the command line, Ffmpeg is a very useful tool. Yes my BIOS has Cool'n Quiet feature, but I disabled this because it runs more snappy when its not stepping between 575mhz, 1150mhz, 1725mhz, and 2300mhz with a fluctuating clock rate. Since I dont need to run green and CPU temp is no concern as for it stays cool at 2300mhz even at 100% usage for hours on end, I did away with the Cool'n Quiet feature which was enabled by default in the Biostar BIOS.

I made the change to ( 1 ) from ( 0 ) for Threading and it spead it up some which is better. It now runs at 75 to 80% vs just 65% of before. So I am happy with the results after the preference settings change. Couldnt get it to run at 100%, but the small gain was worth it to make better use of the 2 cores.

Never heard of Ffmpeg ... only other tools I have used other than Virtual Dub is Format Factory which allows me to make digital copies of my DVD's so that I cal play them on my Sony Digital Walkman which supports playing WMV's, so I make a digital copy of a DVD that I own and add it to this player for long plane flights to watch a movie and pass the time with earbuds and the small 2.5" display. I tried using a tool NAMED Handbrake, but had major issues with it in regards to the audio and video timing would be mismatched badly to where you felt like you were watching one of those old 70s kung fu movies where the mouth moves and then you hear the voice. Format Factory I havent had that issue with yet.

Some TRICKS I have done with some videos I have to add text to the videos and music is to basically play out a prerecorded content on my display, and then use FRAPS to import the video and audio feed with the original video audio turned off etc, and then use notepad with font set LARGE to add text to be displayed. Then afterwards compress the raw uncompressed video with VIRTUALDUB. BUT... no way I can THINK of to rotate the video 45 degrees etc.

In my Windows 7 PC Microsoft Cobol Compiler v 2.20 seems to be

integrated. Whenever, in .CMD, I go to my C:\COBOL folder and type

"COBOL" Microsoft Cobol Compiler v 2.20 loads automatically. But it

gives lots of errors like "Source File Cannot be opened" although the

required .COB file is in the same folder. I have been unable to get

any help for Microsoft Cobol Compiler v 2.20 in the web except

comments that Microsoft Cobol Compiler v 2.20 was written for DOS

COBOL and has serious limitations and better to be replaced.

But I am unable to remove Microsoft Cobol Compiler v 2.20 from my system

It is not really installed, it is just there, and should be able to be deleted without any problems. Then create a new folder and place the compiler you want in the clean folder by itself to avoid any conflict and it should fix this.

Only other thought I have on this is if the PATH variable has Cobol redirected to execute from another location. Look at SET from COMMAND line and see if Cobol is listed in the Path Variable ... more info here: http://www.lagmonster.org/docs/DOS7/z-path.html * If Cobol is found in the current directory it will not use the Path info, however if Cobol is not located where the command is executed from, it will hit the Path and if there is an entry it will trigger it to start from some other location as the path info indicates.

EMail ADDY removed to prevent SPAM.One other trick you can try is rename the cobol.exe or cobol.com to cobol1. matching file extension to the original cobol that you want to run, not the microsoft one, and see if that works. This would require you to enter COBOL1 at the command prompt vs COBOL and should explicitly LAUNCH other than the microsoft cobol compiler 2.20. This should fix this if you cant track down or fix the issue with PATH.

I have been running Desktop Author quite happily until a couple of days AGO I started to get a message when I try to open it saying “DPA 689” at the top and then “Runtime error 35764, still executing LAST request, OK”. Clicking OK clears the program welcome page without opening the program. If I go directly to ONE of the data files it has created, it opens perfectly.

Searching around I found this but I don't KNOW what it means or if it helps.

This message popped up as I tried to log in today. I have entered the administrator profile (The only one I have) and attempted to create another profile to copy all the files over to. The "Manage another account" had an administrator icon next to it so I expected to have to click a yes or enter my password again but instead there was no prompt. Nothing happened.

I have performed a start up repair with no luck.
I have taken off the password.
I have no idea what to do now. Maybe reboot in safe mode, I'm not sure.

He means he has no Restore points so that won't work...

Hi thank you for the help but I have been using this site and was part way through method 2 when I could go no further.

I created several forms for my company that have fillable FIELDS. These forms were placed on our intranet, which allows everyone in the company to access them. All employees have Adobe Reader, while I have Acrobat Pro as well.

While all employees are able to fill out the form online and save a local copy, they are not able to send that copy, partially filled out to another person, who might need to enter their own information. When the form is attached in an e-mail and then opened by the recipient, they receive this message:

"You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, please fill it in and print it. "

Additionally, a banner atop the PDF screen reads: "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form. Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records."

I need to be able to send forms AROUND to several people, so that multiple employees can view, edit, and send on a copy of a form, as well as save it locally.

Not sure I have the answer, but some thoughts. When you create the PDFS with Acrobat Pro, do you have any options regarding permissions (of users of the file) that might relate to this?

I have some fillable PDF tax forms on my laptop. As a test, I sent ONE of them, in which I had filled some blanks on my laptop to myself via email and opened it my desktop system. I was still able to fill in blanks. This was with Foxit Reader on both computers.

Do employees send these forms to persons outside of the organization or only to other employees WITHIN the organization? If the latter, why send via email within the organization if everyone can access the form on an internal server? Why not just have everyone work with the form on the server?

About a year and a half ago a purchased "PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant", and used it when going from Win XP to Win 7 in my computer, successfully.

Now I have purchased a new Gateway with Win 7.

Can this disc be used to move my files from my old Win 7 laptop to my new Win 7 laptop?

ARTI can't find any documentation on the program for moving Windows 7 to Windows 7.

In your case, I would put your old hard drive into the new laptop, and use the new laptop's hard drive as an external hard drive.
You could even put the new hard drive into the old laptop.

Would that be an option in your situation?Without doing a Repair Install the old HDD probably wouldn't boot in the new laptop...unless they are close to identical...

I haven't run into any of these issues, but I've only done it once.
I have nothing else to compare to.

In your case, either the two computers were quite similar or perhaps Windows found drivers for certain components without you being aware of it. If that was the case, those drivers may not be the best drivers for optimum performance or functionality.

I have a database using MS Access 2010. I've recently POPULATED it with data giving a file size of 800 MB. I have another equivalent database populated with data from a colleague and it has a file size of 700 MB. Merging the two files results in an error because Access 2010 has a maximum file size of 2 GB. Microsoft SAY you can work around this problem by using a "link" to the second database. I did this and the file size is 1500 MB. In each CASE I have done a "compact & repair".

I do not understand why the merging of 700 MB and 800 MB file exceeds 1500 MB. Nor do I understand why the mere linking to the other file increased the size of the first file by 100% of the size of the second file (seems pointless of Microsoft to suggest this). In other words; I would expect to merge 700 and 800 MB to get 1500 MB, but I would expect to link 700 MB to 800 MB and have the 800 MB file increase in size by not more than 5%. Can anyone clarify this?

The AV-TEST Institute has published the first results of its testing of Windows 8 virus scanners. Throughout JANUARY and February 2013, the Germany-BASED virus LAB tested nine antivirus programs for corporate networks and 26 for home users. The institute based its results for private users and businesses on three categories: protection, performance and usability. According to AV-TEST, the average "0 day" protection rate of all of the programs increased from 92 per cent in a previous test for Windows 7 to 95 per cent for Windows 8.

I KNOW in Linux there is a basic FRAME based word processor called Kword; but am USING Windows, and cannot USE that. Is there a Windows counterpart for it? Or any plan to COMPILE Kword for Windows environment?

Who bought "Apolsoft Android SMS Transfer" of this software? Can give me some advice?
I want to be able to export my Android SMS database to my pc in a friendly txt, html or pdf format that is EASY to READ. I have the sms.db file ready to use, i just want to be able to EASILY convert it. What applications that are completely free can I use? I have over 10000 sms in this database.
