Solve : MS Word and WordPerfect Email? |
Answer» Hi I am using MS word and I would like to be able to attach the documents that I have typed to go straight to WordPerfect Email. Isn't possible to do that. That doesn't make sense. You have a Word document, so that's what you're sending. If that's what you send, then that's what the recipient will receive. There's no magical conversion from Word to WordPerfect while the file is traveling through the email channel. And, what exactly do you mean by "WordPerfect Email"? WordPerfect is word processing software, not an email client. Quote from: robin2006 on September 01, 2008, 09:32:15 AM In MS Word 2007 one should be able to fax or send the document. Right now the "email" part is not highlighted.I gather you're talking about two different environments from which you work. One is an office and one is home or somewhere else. Is that correct? In one place, you have Outlook; in the other, you don't. Is that correct? If so, what email client do you use in the latter place? Do you use Outlook Express or Windows Mail or some other email program installed on your computer, or do you use webmail? hi sorry for the confusion.. at home I am using the Microsoft Word processing program and I am just wondering if there is any possiblity of linking this program to my default email that is WordPerfect Email. I don't have the Outlook or Express email at home ..only WordPerfect Email that comes with the computer when I bought it. I don't think it is possible..as they are two different environment..i am just curious.... When you look at the 2007 Microsoft word processing program...when you create a document ..you can send it by email or by fax ..just by clicking on it...now the part SEND by EMAIL is not highlighted At work I have MS word and Outlook email....when i create a document and save it and when i click "send by email"...it will bring me straight to Outlook program and the document is attached.... thanks OK, I believe I now know you're talking about WordPerfect Mail, which I've never heard of. You do have Outlook Express. It's part of all Windows computers. If you don't see it, you may need to "install" it. Are you using Windows XP or Vista? Other free options for email are available. This includes Thunderbird, and Windows Live Mail. Where is the "SEND by EMAIL" feature in Word 2007? I have Word 2007 and I don't see that. To send a Word 2007 file, with the file open, I would click the Office icon in the upper left corner of the Word window, then select Send, the select E-mail. Hi my computer is running the Vista Home PREMIUM....therefore no Outlook...Yes when the document is open and I want to send it by email...i could do it by clicking the send by email or send by fax...neither works as I don't have a fax provider and the email section is "blocked" ...that is you are not able to click it at all...I am just curious to see if I can link the MS word program to WordPerfect Email...and get that blocked section (i.e. send by email) unblocked....hI my problem is solved...thanksQuote from: robin2006 on September 01, 2008, 05:38:19 PM Right, but you have Windows Mail. It's on all Windows Vista systems. Quote from: robin2006 on September 01, 2008, 08:06:26 PM Can you share with how it got solved? |

Solve : help!!! three operating systems!!? |
Answer» ok im using a windows xp when i got another windows xp cd cause i wanted to reinstall windows but i lost my FIRST one. so i installed the disk and now i have TWO windows xps on my C: drive. and then i accidentally installed it again but now on my E: drive. so how do i remove the ONES on my C: drive and put my xp from the E: drive to C: drive? please help....OH yeah and when i boot i have to choose between three windows xps.i tried to delete the partition in the C: drive using the disk manager but i get a message: windows cannot delete active system partition..BLAHBLAH...HELP PLEASE Quote from: juleshaha on September 01, 2008, 06:12:15 AM and then i accidentally installed it again Heh, you accidentally installed Windows? The reason you have to choose which Windows to use is because your Boot.ini file can see 3 seperate installations of it. Or more to the point, a new OS has been added to the boot.ini file when it's been installed. Personally, I would think about formatting the hard drive/partitions and doing a clean install. Do you have any crucial files or documents on the system at the moment? if so, back these up if they are not already. As for the installation on your E: Drive, if this is just a partition used for data/storage, then you can just delete the folders in this partition which is for the OS (Windows, Documents and Settings etc.) and make sure you have your personal files somewhere in this partition not within these directories. |

Solve : Powershot camera, screen resolution conflict? |
Answer» Today's my 20th birthday, and as a gift my parents got me my first "real" digital camera a powershot A590 IS. The problem I'm having is that my computer is an old gateway solo 5300 running windows XP 8gb of memory there's a conflict somewhere from when it was updated from windows 98 that doesn't allow me to change the screen resolution from the lowest possible resolution, but the software CD that comes with my new camera requires at least 1024x for the software to even install, if I wanted this camera only for still pictures that wouldn't be an issue, but the fact is one of the greatest features is that it also takes video! This is the first time in my life I've been able to take video and I actually need to send a video to a dog behavorist because I'm dealing with some pretty serious stuff which is why I was over the moon about having this camera but because of the conflict I can't download or even view the video on the camera, except on the camera. What I'm looking for is a software, or suggestion on how I can use my computer and figure out a back door so I don't have to use Canon's software, or so I can use it anyways. I've already been round-about with Gateway and microsoph several months ago about the screen resolution thing and gave up after several WEEKS. I already called tech support and tho my computer fits the tech requirements in every other way but screen resolution they refused to help me other than "go buy a new computer" which isn't an option for me. Thanks.DLoad and update and install your video drivers,,, |

Solve : Mp3 - CD? |
Answer» is it possible to burn 50 mp3 on one CD (700mb) 700mb CD Yea, now that I think of it, that does sound right.... Do it this way: 700 / 5 = 120. Quote If the songs were compressedmp3 is already compressed. That's why, one song takes 3-5MB on average, instead of 30-50MB like with .wav format.Quote from: kpac on August 31, 2008, 10:23:48 AM Quote from: Carbon Dioxide on August 31, 2008, 10:19:34 AM700mb CD YEAH..... You KNOW if I use Carbon Dioxide, it's PRETTY late.... Also, 700 / 5 = 140. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on September 01, 2008, 03:03:44 AM
Okay, you got me.... MP3's use of a lossy compression algorithm is designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent the audio recording and still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original uncompressed audio for most listeners. That`s why you can fit more than 100 songs on a 700mb cd. Most I have fitted 127Quote from: itsme21u on September 05, 2008, 01:51:10 PM MP3's use of a lossy compression algorithm is designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent the audio recording and still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original uncompressed audio for most listeners. That`s why you can fit more than 100 songs on a 700mb cd. Yep, another thing is that MP3 files aren't always s5mb like in my calculations.Especially, if you want better quality than 128 bit. |

Solve : Problems with Nero? |
Answer» When using Nero to make a compilation CD the tracks I use from my hard drive play fine, but the tracks I have pulled from CDs (both purchased & copied) play as a quite rapid (every half second or so) series of clicks. The pitch of the clicks varies from track to track. I never used Nero for this same reason. Never believed it could be a good program. I have started to use Nero 6 ultra a short while back and must say the have ironed out some of here known problems with Microsoft Windows. First of all...did you read the previous posts? Other media players were already suggested...including Windows Media player. Let's see if the updates help, first. I'm convinced it is the software, as well. But his issue is with Nero 6. So, let's try to fix Nero 6...shall we? |

Solve : Recovering deleted data..... Norton Ghost?? |
Answer» So... Somebody I know had a computer with 2 hard drives, an OS drive (dual boot XP and Ubuntu) and a data drive. They went to do a reinstall of the OSes but they accidentally INSTALLED the OS over top all their data! Not unless they created an image with Ghost and want to restore it.Okay, they did not have a Norton Ghost backup image. Well, they reinstalled an OS over it all so I'm not terribly hopeful. So the only real way to get their data back is to take it to a professional then? There is a tool CALLED GetDataBack NTFS which is FREE to try to see if it detects needed files, but have to buy to transfer found files to an alternate location to perform recovery. I haven't tried it on a drive that has been potentially completely overwritten, but if it works its far cheaper than a data recovery center. I bought this GetDataBack NTFS software as a bundle package with Getdataback FAT and GetDataBack RAID for like $80 about 5 years ago. It has been successful for getting most of the data off of crashed hard drives that still spin. Even had a laptop hard drive with the continuous clunk of death able to recover more than 80% of the data off of, however it had to run on this drive continuously clunking for 5 DAYS on a 13GB IDE laptop drive.Quote from: Allan on February 08, 2013, 05:46:18 AM There are companies who do this for a living, but they are very expensive.Does anyone have a clue what software professionals would use to recover the data?Very expensive, very proprietary software.Quote from: Allan on February 14, 2013, 05:31:09 AM Very expensive, very proprietary software. Sometimes bespoke or written in house, and used by very experienced and knowledgeable people. Quote from: Cityscape Well, they reinstalled an OS over it all so I'm not terribly hopeful. So the only real way to get their data back is to take it to a professional then? If the disk has been written over to that extent, I wouldn't hold my breath. |

Solve : Open Office & Microsoft Office? |
Answer» On my computer I have Student Home and Office from Microsoft, and a week ago I download Open Office to see what it was all about as I had been recommending it to other people who didn't want to fork over "the big bucks" for Microsoft Office. The problem I am having is that if I open a .docx FILE or an .xl file from My Computer, the file will open in Open Office and not in Microsoft. If I open the FILES directly from Word or EXCEL, no problem. How do I keep Open Office from assuming I want to open a Word or Excel file in Open Office? Thank youWhat you want is called: |

Answer» Quote U.S. Homeland Security Continues Java WarningSo now what? I can not in stall the new Java 13 nor remove Java 11. o now I guess that means ... I dunno, what does it mean? You mean the Java 7 Update 11 and 13? The warning is blown out of proportion, IMO- the warnings seem to suggest uninstalling Java altogether, which is like suggesting you remove Word altogether to prevent Macro viruses. A lot of the problem with how to respond to the Exploit is that people seem to trust the recommendations of these other associations, who themselves might not even know the details of the exploit itself. In this case, the issue lies within the "MethodHandle" feature that was introduced with Java 7, which is similar in capability to the ideas of the DLR runtime for .NET Applications, in that it is designed to provide beter support for dynamic languages that run on the JVM and is designed to give more flexible and faster access to classes and methods in a dynamic way. Basically, the feature allows Java code to create a handle for a method from an arbitrary class. The exploit is that the feature to get handles to methods from an arbitrary class can be used to get handles to methods to the classes that get handles to methods of arbitrary classes, but when you call them that way, no security check is performed before the class method is actually called. What makes the exploit interesting is that if code uses the MethodHandle feature as it is intended, there will not be a security issue- all method handles go through a security check when first RESOLVED- the interesting part is that you can create MethodHandles that refer to classes and methods within the MethodHandles Package itself. (In this sense the vulnerability lies in the java.lang.invoke.MethodHandles.Lookup class). Essentially, it provides a way to lookup the constructor and methods from the target class when it TRIES to make said handle. if the methods handle for the findConstructor method of the MethodHandles Lookup class is used to resolve a constructor method for an arbitrary class, the security check will not be enforced correctly. This is a problem because the target class could be something that is typically restricted and requires a trusted code context- such as File IO or other system-oriented structures. Essentially it allows an application to- if constructed properly- instantiate their own code on the fly in another, more privileged security context. Of course, this is only an "exploit" when used in CONTEXTS where it would have limited trust anyway. Using it in a standard desktop Java application is pointless since you are basically 'on the other side of the airtight hatchway', and already have the same abilities as you would be trying to get using the Lookup exploit. It's worth noting also that the Java process that hosts applets generally runs with the same privileges as the browser, which is usually run through the users account. What this means is that software that uses this exploit is still limited in what it can do, but it provides a sort of "hole in the first fence" and essentially escapes the Java sandbox into the Account sandbox provided by the Operating System. This is of course still a major issue but generally speaking, since a Limited User Account cannot actually install low-level system software or access and/or change system components, on Vista,7,8 and Linux and OSX, which run users as a limited account by default, there is a mitigating factor. On a more or less default Windows XP, however, this exploit is devastating. Even more so than using a 12 year old Operating System. (then again, an XP machine can get owned pretty fast anyway thanks to the lack of mitigating security concerns). Primarily at this point in a active exploit, the exploiting Java applet will drop it's payload. Typically, this is a executable program (what language it's written in isn't important, really). It can do this because it's busted out of the sandbox at this point. This program could be a keylogger or something of that sort. With it's busted-out permissions it can now launch said executable. Of course this is still quite a concern, but most Operating Systems have mitigating factors that help to avoid major, system-wide issues as a result. The exploits in the wild currently rely on a sort of phishing tactic to try to elevate the payload. The fact it get's this far is still something of heavy concern- most people that are exposed to this aren't very security conscious and might not think twice about clicking allow to the Graphical Sudo or UAC prompt that might appear. Most security packages such as MSE now detect attempts to exploit this vulnerability and are FULLY able to prevent it. often the payload contains some older package that is detected as something else. Part of me thinks the biggest problem with this exploit is the massive confusion that Netscape prompted with Javascript. Even though Java in the browser through applets has been obsolete since the early 2000's, people still think they need Java installed in their browser- this is because, for a person unfamiliar with the technology, Java and Javascript may as well be the same thing- so you have people thinking Javascript has this exploit and disabling it, while leaving Java enabled, and people installing Java because sites say "this website works best with Javascript enabled", that sort of thing. The "fix" is to properly enforce security barriers with regards to Method Handle introspecting itself. ORACLE's current stopgap has been to change the default security setting to "high" which also prevents this from being exploited, since MethodHandle's can't be used at all when high security settings are enabled. |

Solve : Shift key randomly activating.? |
Answer» Hello, i m not sure this is the right section to post, some may argue its a hardware-related problem. Tried safe mode over a 10 hours sample. Nothing apparently, although it doesn't really have a timer : sometimes it bugs out in 5 minutes, sometimes in 2 hours..It is a software problem; could be a utility application or another device driver. You could try a tool like Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel or Autoruns, and see if there are unnecessary services and programs you don't need, or try disabling them one by one, rebooting, and seeing if the problem is gone. Obviously that could take some time.Let me get this straight: if i use one of those utilities while the bug is "active", do i HAVE to reboot for the changes to take effect, or the disabled process/service stops functioning immediately?Quote from: Fermosi on February 09, 2013, 05:17:59 AM Let me get this straight: if i use one of those utilities while the bug is "active", do i HAVE to reboot for the changes to take effect, or the disabled process/service stops functioning immediately? You would have to reboot for the changes to take effect, yes. You could end processes via Task Manager as well, I suppose. Though be prepared to reboot if you kill one you need. |

Solve : Install more than one AV?? |
Answer» I use MSE & Malware Bytes & Windows Firewall. Couldn't seem to install Windows Defender for some reason. I know you can't install more than one firewall, but how about more than one virus program ?I moved your post to a more appropriate area. And NO - you cannot install more than one anti virus app - but neither MalwareBytes nor Windows Defender is an anti virus app. As for the latter, it is a complete and utter waste of resources - if I were you I would not continue to try to install it. Last, do you have an anti virus app installed and resident?Ok ! What do you recommend for a free anti-virus ?I've never used a free AV and hesitate to recommend something I haven't used. This will HELP: http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/applications/best-free-antivirus-9-reviewed-and-rated-1057786 Thanks Allan & Soybean.Well, I'm not sure what you mean by cumbersome, as it relates to a web browser. Opera recently made some major changes to the browser and released them in version 16. The version preceding that 12.16, so they simply jumped to 16.xx in their numbering scheme instead of the usual progression of increasing the version number one numerical step at a time. I've heard some grumblings about this latest version so I am still using 12.16. If you want to try Opera, you can get it at http://www.opera.com/computer/windows; if you want to try version 12.16, scroll down that page and click on DOWNLOAD Opera 12. Since you have some dissatisfaction with IE, why not try one or more alternative browsers? Firefox is another good alternative to IE. You can get it at http://www.ez-download.com/mozilla-firefox/ Quote from: Allan on September 28, 2013, 02:46:16 PM I've never used a free AV and hesitate to recommend something I haven't used. This will help: http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/applications/best-free-antivirus-9-reviewed-and-rated-1057786 Allan, what are you using for anti malware and antivirus protection? Kaspersky AV (always resident) MalwareBytes (on demand) SuperAntispyware Pro (on demand) SpywareBlaster WinPatrol Plus Most important, I use common sense. I don't open links on websites or in EMAILS unless I am 100% certain I know what they are, I don't download anything unless I am certain of the source and contents, I don't visit websites unless I know they are safe, and nobody has access to my systems except me. I began using computers in 1980 (started with an Atari 400, then an Atari 800, then an att 6300 and so on). I now have 5 computers in my home and am responsible for a number of others and have NEVER had any virus issues.Hi Thanks for your most recent post. I am layering up, recently downloaded a trial version of MalwareBytes "On demand" means its a trial that I can RUN until it expires? Regards "On Demand" basically means that it does not scan or check files in the background, you have to manually click to run a scan with it. The other type is "resident" where the program will run scans and check files in the background. As a general rule you should only ever have one "resident" program running at once but you can install as many "on demand" scanners as you want.Just to clarify the above post, you should never have more than one anti virus app installed at a time. You may have as many on demand ancillary scanners (ie, MalwareBytes, SuperAntispyware, etc) as you like - but only one av. |

I'm having a problem where my computer would get random lag spikes every 30 seconds or minute. When these lag spikes happen, FPS drops significantly and sound begins to stutter.OK. Let's look at this. Lag is common in network activity over the internet. What kind of internet do you have? DSL? Cable? Fiber optic? Are you playing an on-line game when the lag happens? How old is your modem and or router? Do others share your internet connection? What kind of AV protection do you ave? This is a lack of responsiveness. It is not lag. I would perform full checks on all the hard disk drives in question and perform standard maintenance.Quote from: BC_Programmer on March 01, 2014, 08:38:43 PM This is a lack of responsiveness. I am not extremely computer savvy, but I do TRY to maintain my computer by deleting unnecessary programs and compressing the hard drive occasionally. If you right-click on a drive in My Computer and select Properties, there should be a "Check Now" button on the Tools tab. That will allow you to perform a disk check. |
