Solve : Looking for download manager that works with free file hosting sites?

Answer»

Hello,
I am looking for a download manager (preferably FREEWARE) that can download from rapidshare, megaupload etc without a fuss.
So FAR I have found this http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Other-Internet-Related/Megaupload-Downloader.shtml but this works only for megaupload!
If you know of a good free program I will deeply appreciate it if you shared the information here with me.

Thank you in advance. This topic can become difficult.
May I ask you if you have already seen this link, and do you think those programs were not the best?
http://mp3.about.com/od/filesharing/tp/Best_Free_P2P_Programs.htm
Top 5 Free File Sharing Programs – BitTorrent Programs for P2P DownloadsFirst of all, thanks for the help, i know I am looking for something rather hard to find.
As for P2P I have utorrent but that's not what I am looking for sadly.

I am looking for something like megaupload downloader but able to work for rapidshare and basically in all the free file hosting services.
Those sites dont use torrents so I cannot pull the files from there, I want a program to TAKE them directly from the site like I mentioned.

I will keep on looking Understood.
You already saw this?
http://www.megaleecher.net/Open_Source_Rapidshare_And_Megaupload_DownloaderWow thanks!
Not only I got "Tucan Manager" and so far it seems to be working fine, but also from the comments of the same page you gave me I found another one, Jdownloader here http://www.fiberdownload.com/Download/19655/JDownloader !

I already used Tucan for media fire with 100% efficiency!

Lets hope they recognise captcha, if they do it will speed my task so much.

Thanks again!
(Now i gotta find how to give rep/thanks in these forums )

One more thing:
A few WORD on Tucan which I am toying with now, make sure you get the tucan-win32 version since there are more than one and the others seem to be either incomplete or for other OS.The Topic is 5 years old...I can't think of ANYTHING to add to it.

Solve : Canon My Image Garden scanning error message?

Answer»

I have a Canon printer MG5600 and WINDOWS Vista. When scanning via Canon scan, progress messages say that the image is scanned and being transferred. But then I get a message on my PC screen with the headline "Canon My Image Garden" and says "An internal error has occurred. Exiting this software". I have uninstalled and reinstalled My Image Garden, but STILL get this message. What can I do?If it worked before with no problems and uninstalling and reinstalling the driver/software doesnt help. Then you can download and install latest if there is an update AVAILABLE. Otherwise you would have to backup all your IMPORTANT data and perform a repair installation of Vista or a full reinstallation of Vista to be rid of the corruption and then reinstall the drivers/software. However if the error is caused by the SCANNER itself being broken, then the problem will remain.

Solve : Where should a backup be placed??

Answer»

Hi -
I followed the advice in this forum and downloaded EaseUS TODO Backup. No problem. I then ran it. No problem. I found the result in a folder in "C:\My Backups". My question is this. If my computer crashes will not the backup be lost? Shouldn't any backup be on a disk so that it can be STORED away from the computer? BobYes. Common PRACTICE is to either use and eternal drive or add another drive to your desktop.
If a Laptop, the options are external hard drive or DVD-R.

When creating the backup you can point it to any other HDD/partition...
I burn my disc images once a Month to DVD's...Thanks for the replies. I'm not too good at this but I will try the disk next time. BobIt's probably easier to copier to an extern hard drive than to burn stuff onto DVD. Raptor -
Thanks for the advice. As I said I am not too good but when I get READY next time I'll try something different. A couple of years ago I tried using Windows backup on a disk. I never got it to do right and gave up. Fortunately I have never needed a backup so I haven't missed anything. Bob Quote

I don't think any of the Windows wizards are useful, it's BETTER to do it by hand or use more professional software like you are doing now.

Solve : Obtaining new product key for Office?

Answer»

The laptop I use at my church was stolen. The laptop had Office 2013 on it. I bought a new laptop and office 365 with it. I don't like office 365 because every time I use it I get a message the PRODUCT isn't registered. I registered it when I installed it the first time. Sometimes I can register it again on LINE but most of the time I get an error message stating it can't be done at this time. WOULD Microsoft give me another product key to install Office 2013 on my laptop?Very possibly. But since we can't speak for Microsoft you need to call them...
After talking to TWO people the last person was able to help me. Problem SOLVED.
Thanks for the forum's help

Solve : Blocked From Using Hiren'S Boot CD By Strike F1 Error?

Answer»

I have used Hiren's Boot CD a GREAT deal, but now I am unable to. Whenever I click Enter on USB Flash Device in the menu, instead of opening up Hiren's Boot CD, it is giving me the message:

    Quote

Strike the F1 key to CONTINUE, F2 to run the setup utility.

When I strike F1, it just repeats the same message ad infinitum.

I have Hiren's on a 4GB flash drive. (My old computer won't let me boot from CD or DVD.)

As for the context of this, I have replaced an old hard drive that was clearly on its way to failure with a larger unused IDE drive. The BIOS seems to recognize that there is a new hard drive, but elsewhere I see non-recognition, including within MiniXP on Hiren's before this error shut down my access to Hiren's.

My SELF, I just don't use it. There are many other similar products. Sounds like you need to replace the 2032 CMOS battery as for its a common message when BIOS is not holding configuration. If you have a multimeter check to see if the battery is 3 Volts. If its lesser than 2.8 volts I'd replace it. Someone once TOLD me that 2.73 volts was the drop out voltage for BIOS's to lose their configuration or act flakey and any voltage lesser would likely show as a battery failure message.

Given age of this Pentium 4 system. I'd say its the CMOS battery a 2032 that can be bought just about anywhere cheaply. Also you may need a PS2 keyboard...I have finally gotten my computer to recognize the new hard drive. My dilemma is that I have not been able to populate my new hard drive with the old hard drive's image (which is on an external hard drive) because now my computer will only let me boot into USB drive when I take my hard drive out. It did let me boot to USB drive with the previous hard drive in place.

Solve : Trying to restore lost files with Recuva, none of the desired files found.?

Answer»

I have a computer here which is running Windows 8 and just went through an operating system reinstall. I'm using a file recovery PROGRAM called Recuva, which I've used before with much success, but I'm having little success right now.
The options I have selected are "Show files found in hidden system directories", "Deep SCAN" and "Scan for non-deleted files". When I run the recovery, I get hundreds of thousands of recovered files, but not the ones that I have been requested to recover. I was told to recover all the pictures that were in the "Libraries" > "Pictures" folder, which is populated by "C:\Users\user\My Pictures" and "C:\Users\Public\Public Pictures", but the only file found in either of those locations on the recovery was desktop.ini.

I can't imagine that the one folder with all these pictures is completely unrecoverable, while 200,000+ other files are. Can anyone tell me what's probably going on? Thanks.Recuva can only recover DATA for files that have had none of their data overwritten. If any part of the file is overwritten, the file is not really recoverable.

A Reinstall will write a lot of data to the drive that has a very high chance of overwriting a lot of data, and in particular, overwriting the MFT File entries for the files that were deleted- if those are gone, the files cannot be seen.

Either that, or the files never existed to begin with. Depending on how the reinstall was done, there might simply be nothing to recover- the deleted files you are seeing are files deleted since the reinstall, and not before. If the reinstall performed any sort of format. The reinstall was done via Windows 8's "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" option in "Update and recovery". Because of this, I though that at least some of their family pictures would be found by Recuva. Unfortunately, the only ones I've found are all mainly in AppData, Program Files, and in the Windows directories. This does not help.
But... Next time try doing a fresh install on a new or spare hard drive. Then later you can recover your stuff from the old drive.

Definitely, the problem is this isn't my computer, it's my Sister's and her son is the one who did it. And, of course, there are no backups.Sorry to hear that .
FYI: Automatic backups and INCREMENTAL* can be scheduled in Windows. But the user has to set it up.

Solve : Can I make a 2 cd/dvd installer into a simple disc free installer??

Answer» LETS take any program that says insert disc 2 to continue installation in the middle of the process.
Can i SIMPLY use a software and put an iso of disc 1 and 2 in it and trick the installer into believing i put disc 2 in without even opening the cd tray once. Why?
If you are a system administrator with hundreds of PCs to UPDATE over a local network , you would already know how to do it.
The FORUM can not help you with some kind of trick that would circumvent copyright protection for a single user installing the same software on multiple PCs.

Now if you can provide a clear example of why you must have this, somebody might help you.

More info...we have no idea what you are using for your backups...
Unless i missed somethin...Power Iso did the trick.

It was for a music software that I was tired of looking for in my disc library, also i was worried at some point the disc would be too scratched to be correctly read so i wanted to put it on my pc for that matter.

What i did was to put both iso on my hdd, power iso can mount both isos as a cd/dvd drive example: K:/ and after installing the 1st disc from that letter, when i got to the message "please insert disc 2" I unmounted the K:/ drive and MOUNTED the second iso as the K:/ drive, then i pressed "ok" on the "insert disc" screen and voilà.

Solve : Norton Ghost competitior?

Answer»

Greeetings,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with recovery software. Back when i used windows XP i used a nice little utility CALLED Macrium reflect. They had and still do a free version which simply makes an image of a drive, and later you can restore to that image within minutes. The only issue that annoys me, is that you have to make "recovery MEDIA" so burn a CD/ use a flash drive to make a separate environment to do the format and restore. The issue is that ive found the CD is at times proprietary to a machine, making me have about a half dozen or more copies of the same thing.

I was wondering if there is a piece of software that works just like Macrium but has the NORTON Ghost ASPECT that puts a built in recovery mode like a off the shelf PC that has the "press F12 to boot into recovery" or even that hidden but not having to make this recovery boot media.

Thanks ACRONIS True Image has a startup recovery manager option that allows you to press F10 at boot to access it. It is not activated by default, you have to choose to implement it.Great, BUt what i was wondering is there any free software titles like this? If im going to pay this much i might aswell get Norton Ghost.

Solve : Computer Browser?

Answer»

I need a fast, dependable browser. One that's immune to hijackers and viruses and maybe doesn't use the ADOBE SHOCKWAVE player. Can anyone make a suggestion?Use Knoppix Live DVD Distro... EVERY time you reboot your computer its booted clean. Its a Read-Only OS so even if there was malware for Linux its gone on reboot.

For a system that uses a Writable OS ( a non-live OS ) there is no immunity because its vulnerable to writing of bad data to the media!Web browser you mean? Stick with the well known and supported ones - Google Chrome, Chromium, Firefox, IE.etc. They are as pretty much as secure as a browser can be and will get security patches the fastest. Almost all of the security with a browser is down to the user not visiting dodgy websites.Isn't Google Chrome good enough?Chrome browser is best one, it's fast and safe, I have used it for many years Quote from: Kristy on December 18, 2015, 12:25:48 AM

While it is an opinion, for all of my experiences, chrome does take the most resources when it runs. However, it does this to try to get you the fastest browsing experience. On my PC Firefox is very light and fast to open but my browsing changes with my CPU usage. With chrome it hogs up much more CPU space but my browsing speed is ALWAYS very fast. Solve : Cannot Uninstall CyberLink Media Suite Essentials?

Answer»

On the "Uninstall or Change a Program" page it says thatCyberLink Media Suite Essentials v. 10 was installed on 8/15/2015 and I vaguely remember it being offered by Windows 10 so I thought I would try it. It isn't causing any problems that I can tell but I NOTICED that it's size is 1.16 GB rather than the 1.16 MB it should be. When I try to uninstall it in the usual way, it just keeps adding apps on the task bar saying it is uninstalling but it isn't. It will keep on adding the apps forever, apparently, and the only way to stop it is to turn off my computer.

I have researched how to uninstall it and saw that this is a fairly common PROBLEM but I can't get any good info on how to fix it. Revo Uninstaller Pro didn't work for other people who tried it. Suggestions for how to remove it are all provided by sites trying to sell their uninstallers so I don't trust the info. They do not get good ratings for safety.

Does anyone have some helpful info on this problem, please?

Just thought I would let everyone know that I seem to have stumbled onto a way to uninstall CyberLink Media Suite Essentials.

When the app for the first component of the program started to multiply itself in the system tray, I right clicked and closed the windows of both apps. I thought it would stop the uninstall but instead it moved on to the next component. I did the same thing with that ONE and all the subsequent components until it finally said that the program had been uninstalled. It doesn't show up on the Uninstall Program page any more so, hopefully, it's gone and not just hiding.

I did notice then that my Photoshop said it's size was 2.59 GB which also seemed much to big so I uninstalled it, too. I thought there might be a virus that just moved on to another program each time I deleted the problem one but now everything seems fine. I'll reinstall Photoshop later.

Hope this is helpful to others.

Well, I guess it was hiding because it's back today. I'm going to try uninstalling the components one at a time. I doubt that it will work, though.UPDATE: Well, it turns out that my technique did work on my laptop. The program has not returned.

What I wrote above, was about my desktop where it did return the next day. I have been removing one component each day (there are 5 components) with success so far. The size is down to 71.0 MB. Tomorrow I'll remove the last component and give it a few DAYS and report back.

I've refined my uninstalling technique. Here's how to do it:

- Select one component on the wizard and run as usual.

- When the app in the tray replicates itself, immediately start right-clicking and closing that second app and any others that pop up.
Keep doing this until they disappear.
Some of them are "install" apps which, apparently, reinstall the program while it is uninstalling.
You have to keep them from completing.

- Eventually you will get a message saying that the component has been uninstalled and the size of the program should be reduced.UPDATE: My laptop is still free of CyberLink Media Suite Essentials

My desktop is not quite free. The CyberLink LabelPrint 2.5 component is definitely the one causing all the problems. I was able to uninstall everything else but, no matter what I do, I can't get the label maker to uninstall because it just keeps reinstalling itself. I have a feeling that, if I let it complete, it would reinstall the whole suite again.

The size is now 71 MB which is much better than the original 1.16 GB. I guess I'll just have to live with that until a solution can be found.

Solve : Outlook OST or PST File Question?

Answer»

I have Outlook 2007 that is currently working with MS Exchange at a HOSTED datacenter. I will lose my Exchange access in a few days but I want to ensure that I still have access to the emails that are currently on my PC. The files are located locally in an OST file (see attachment).
When I lose my Exchange access I assume I will still be able to access the emails that are located in the OST file. Should I leave them there or move them to a PST file?
After I lose access to Exchange I will connect my Outlook to a POP EMAIL account and would like to have the TWO instances separate but accessible.
Appreciate all suggestions,
Thanks!
Have yo already seen this?
Introduction to Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost)
Do not assume anything!
For your own PEACE of mind, backup the e-MAIL folders before the service stops. The general method is:
    Select File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
Select Export to a file, and then select Next.
Select Outlook Data File (.pst), and select Next.
Select the mail folder you want to back up and select Next.
Choose a location and name for your backup file, and then select Finish.
Better safe than sorry.

Solve : Internet tracking?

Answer»
Please can some one help me, I have used my work wifi login on my I phone for years but having read my HANDBOOK it says this is not permitted! They are going to install tracker software to manage this! Will the tracker software be able to SEE I have been logged in for years before the tracker software was installed?I wouldn't think so. I think that would be a lot like owning a used car. You don't know all the places it went before you owned it, all you know is that it's yours now and the places you've taken it. You should be fine.

What i'm wondering is why they just don't start filtering the MAC addresses instead of trying to track everything (We USE this at my home, so even if you have the WiFi password, you can't get in unless your device's MAC address is white-listed).Once the tracking software is installed does it store months, days or weeks worth of browsing HISTORY? We can't be sure. Things like that vary from software to software. Assuming it probably does store history, i would think at least a MONTH. It could be several months, or possibly keep the logs until someone manually clears them (Unlikely though).

Solve : Live feed system alternative?

Answer»

I am looking for a suggestion to improve a small system I have put forward at work.

This system is supposed to eliminate the current paper-based system where daily updates are collated on 10+ pieces of paper and then displayed at several locations.
My system USES one computer in the big wigs office, connected to the sites' closed-network, multi-casting a video stream to nodes around the work site.
The system uses a normal desktop PC to CAST the stream through VLC. This PC will have a power point presentation LOOPING through slides with relevant information.
The nodes are Raspberry Pi 2's picking up the stream and displaying it on big screens.

My question is: Is there a more bandwidth efficient programme as an alternative to streaming 1080p power point slides across the network? I'd prefer to keep using the Raspberry Pi as the node, but any small form-factor computer can work.

I attempted to google an alternative but found it hard to specify the problem in a google friendly way.At a workplace I worked at in past we had a similar setup for casting information at multiple sites. The method I went with was web page on the intranet that had a javascript that would perform a reload once every 5 minutes. And since the information was rather small on the web page, all systems got and displayed the information on the large monitors without being bandwidth hogs.

Is there really a need to be casting a video stream?

The Powerpoint slides could be created into a HTML setup of pages and a simple javascript could loop thru the pages. The information your streaming seems static so its very wasteful of bandwidth to be casting it when there is no video content plating its just a slideshow. This is why I wanted to change it. I couldn't think of an alternative to streaming.

I don't have much experience with HTML/CSS/Java so would have to do a little research myself.
The main thing with this casting system is that it had to be very easy for anyone to come along and edit information on the power point.
I've heard of dreamweaver and other programmes that make webpage design easier to do, but would it be easy enough for someone who wasn't trained to do?

I could be really wrong here but, I fear that now the big wigs have the user-friendly and familiar system, they might not take to something that requires more training.

Thank you very much for your help If your using MS Office to make your power point projects then you should be able to save as with option for HTML

This turns the Power Point into a Web Page format for a browser to be able to display it.

Javascript is best for displaying a web page for a certain period of time and then displaying the next group of pages with time delay and then loop back to page 1 again. With powerpoint creating the HTML version of the slideshow you might have it counting say 1 to 5 and back to 1 again to loop the pages with time delay and have to use Anchors in HTML to specify the focus area of within the HTML webpage to display. Anchors are when your at a single website that the page scrolls, and you click on a link at the top of the page it instantly moves your view to the middle of the page placed as intended by the web designers intent with a paragraph or picture or whatever is to be displayed.

Someone will need some basic HTML knowledge and would have to maintain this. However with proper skills a person could code up an easy interface for management to look over the powerpoint presentation and approve it and click submit and it updates and code adjusts dynamically to display the latest data but making up a dynamically updated system like that would need a skilled programmer/web designer.

Last and easiest to avoid Anchors, but still requires editing by someone in HTML with Javascript would be to take the sides from power point and each slide saved as a image file such as a png or jpg file. The javascript then counts say 1 to 5 and loops back again and it loads image 1 waits 15 seconds and then 2, 3, 4, 5 and back to 1. As long as the image files are named say 1.jpg or 1.png all the way to say 5.jpg or 5.png and these image files are located in the same directory that the web page that the javascript is running or correct full URL path given for access to that image file on the local intranet it will work pretty easily.

If your using Powerpoint 2010 see this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/980553

If you chose to save as images and go that route check out your save as selection. JPG and PNG are listed. JPG will be a smaller file, but not as sharp as PNG. With large displays you probably want PNG if you go this route.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]Ah BRILLIANT, this would give me something to sink my teeth into.

For the moment, the network backbone for this system isn't utilized for anything other than this video feed system.
Given this I am inclined to leave it like this for now and mention to my bosses the better system which we will have to move into.
Hopefully they will take it on board and maybe even send me away for some training

Thank you very much for your help. Here is another link for the Power Point presentation over Network.

Normal MP4 video eats up bandwidth due to high frame rate require.
Thee are a number of low bandwidth low frame rate presentation packages. A visual presentation with a very low frame rate is called a "presentation manager."
WINK is presentation thing as a alternative to PowerPoint.
And there are many others out there.
http://www.customshow.com/best-powerpoint-alternatives-presentation-programs/
Quote

Presentation software is great, but we know there are PLENTY of options to choose from. Some have their advantages and disadvantages while others are perfect for a certain audience. We’ll examine the presentation maker programs we believe would be great and even the ones that may not be but could still be another viable solution.
Hope that is of some help.
Ah excellent! Another option to keep things simple!
We have just upgraded to Office 2010 so this could be the answer to my prayers.

Thank you very much Other notes:
Many presentations tools are some form of Adobe Flash.

And the GIF format has an animation option. One can alter frame rate and set transparency y of nice low-rate animation effects.
Additionally if it remained run casted from powerpoint you can have embedded videos in it playing in sized window areas, but that would bring you back to the bandwidth problem unless you had dedicated systems get a single download of the latest powerpoint and a copy of the video file cached locally to play in loop vs each time the slide comes around to that embedded video that it would yet again consume bandwidth over network.

Solve : How do I allow Windows Defender to accept a website?

Answer»

I have Windows 10, which I've only had for about three weeks. I use Webshots as my screensaver and desktop pictures. How do I change a setting on Window Defender to allow access to Webshots? I've looked and looked and cannot find how to add that as an acceptable website. Also, how do I turn off the password that allows me to get on my computer? I went to Accounts and USERS, but was too afraid to change anything because I didn't know what I was changing. I have NEVER had a computer that I had to PUT in a password when I turn it on every day, so I would like to get rid of it. I just got this computer about three weeks ago, and I'm not all that savvy with computers anyway. Thanks in advance.
Why do you think you need to add webshots to Defender? Are you getting a message telling you that Defender thinks there's a problem with the webshots website?

I tried using the screensaver from the webshots website on my Win 10 machine and didn't need to add anything to Defender to get it to work. At one point, Windows Firewall asked if it should allow access to webshots but all that was needed was to click the Allow button.

You can add files to an exclusion list in Defender. Go to Settings->Update & Security->Windows Defender->EXCLUSIONS->Add an exclusion to add files for Defender to exclude when it scans. You can setup exclusions by file, folder, File type or Process.Sorry Strollin, it is Firewall and I did click to allow them, but now I am getting messages from Webshots and my computer that they are not on the list. List? What list? So I started looking AROUND on the Firewall and I have a page that states what's allowed and when I look at Webshots, it says Private instead of Allow. I see nowhere to add it to the list or change it from Private to Allow. And I am thinking I might uninstall it and re-install it because somehow during the installation, I did not get the Webshots Screensaver. It's on the list, but it stays black, so pictures did not get downloaded onto the screensaver. But I am going to have to do something because I'm tired of the messages from Webshots.

Solve : opening xml document with IE9?

Answer»

I have data log files of one of my trucks PCM (2003 Chevy S10 ZR2) that I recorded with my new Autoenginuity scan tool v10.0.3 . I just purchased this scanner software ($263.95) 2-6-2012 and ADDED the GM enhanced interface ($229.95) 2-21-2012, and I haven't had much time to familiarize myself with some of the functions.
Right now - ASAP, I need to convert some data log files recorded in xml format to be viewed in Internet Explorer or Firefox. The limited instructions for doing this are on page 61-69 of the user guide specifically page 67, where the xsl style sheet location is listed within the program is given (Program
Files/Common Files/AutoEnginuity). That stylesheet is displayed in ATTACHMENT 1 and 2.
How do I work with this xsl stylesheet and xml file to make it viewable with a BROWSER? (Please be simple with me, I'm no computer guru like most of you are ).
Also, suggestions for a WEBSITE to host these files. My photobucket site will only upload media files.

Thanks,
Mike

Solve : Vaio recovery discs.?

Answer»

I am running Windows vista on a sony vaio VGN-NS20E/S laptop.

Basically, I want to CREATE some recovery discs using the vaio recovery centre recovery disc creator utility. Select the necessary things, and it SAYS to click on which disc you want to create (1 or 2 of 2) and then click next. Select to create the first one, the next icon is not selectable. Try the second one, same problem.

Ive seen on a few websites that people have had similar problems. Thing is, no one SEEMS to have found a solution, aside from reinstalling the factory settings and then creating the discs, which isnt really an option. Has anyone here solved this problem, and if so, I would be grateful to KNOW how its done.

Cheers, guys. :-)

FeenixOK, got it. It DOESNT like Daemon tools and the virtual drive. Deleted the virtual drive, job done.

FeenixHi i was wondering if you had a recovery disk for the sony vaio vgn ns20e as i tried to restore it and got 21% through disk 2 and it popped up ERROR 414 Quote from: minislimshady03 on March 18, 2012, 03:04:00 AM

it popped up ERROR 414

The error 414 when using recovery discs (not just on Sony Vaio) usually means that the disc is faulty, scratched, or has some other fault which has made it unusable. You should contact Sony to request replacement.

Solve : "Please login with Administrator privileges and try again"?

Answer»

I am currently using a Windows 7 OS and just earlier I tried installing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 program in my computer/ laptop but when I'm done installing and tried to open it, it says "Please log in with administrator privileges and try again", but I am the ADMIN and I was logged in as admin user. What is the problem? ANYONE can help me please? Welcome to the forum

This looks to be a known issue of sorts with this game, there are a few things you can try. Firstly I WOULD try right-clicking on the icon you use to start the game and clicking "Run as administrator". If this works, then to save you doing this EVERY time you start the game, right click on the shortcut, go to Properties, go to the compatibility tab, then check the box "Run this program as an administrator".

Let us know how it goes.Hi Calum, thanks for your reply. It is appreciated. I tried the one that you've SAID but it still doesn't work. Are there any other options that I can try? Another solution I've seen is to install Flight Sim 2004 to a different directory than the default - for example, create a folder named "Flightsim" on your C drive, then uninstall FS2004 and reinstall to this folder.

Unlikely. 26 is a tiny installation base by Microsoft standards. You might get a DISCOUNT if it's for an education establishment or if you're installing thousands and want to go down the volume licence route.

It does not seem to be a standard number format. What does the dash (-) mean? In regular expression it would mean subtraction. Is that right?
If all the dashes could be converted to periods (.) then excel could read it as a list of numbers.
But as it is, it can only be a string, not a number And the end of line char is in the wrong place.
You can export the PDF as a plain text file and then the spreadsheet program, Excel, can read into a spreadsheet. Bu the dash char is going to give unexpected results.
This might help.
Import or export text (.txt or .csv) files
That is the best I can do.
Actually the dash and number following need to be removed from the entries. My next question was going to be if there was a simple way to do that once the numbers are in cells. I have them in a text file, just converted it to pdf to attach here. You need to remove unwanted chars and fix the en of line points.
A suitable tool for your use would be Notepad++.
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.8.6.html
Download Notepad++

Documentation is also there.
Notepad++ can remove line breaks and remove unwanted chars from text. It can insert end of line a certain points. You might be able to put it in a batch file. I have yet to try that.
How many columns do you want? Excel needs the end of line char to start
the next row.

No, it does not.

Excel can parse data by using the Text-to-Columns command. Numerous references on parsing data with Excel can be found by searching on a phrase such as how to parse data in excel. Here's one reference: http://www.addictivetips.com/microsoft-office/excel-2010-split-column-data-into-two-parse-cells/ Although it DEMONSTRATES parsing into two columns, more columns can be easily done using the same procedure.

I see one variation in the data shown in your PDF file. The first row begins with a " followed by the first long number. The last char in that row is a - . The next row begins with 2, and then all subsequent rows start with a single digit number. In other words, I get the impression all rows should end in a single digit number following the last - in the group of numbers and then a " as the last char of every line.

Actually, all the QUOTATION marks are not needed when parsing in Excel. So, removing them from the file before STARTING the parsing procedure would work best, I believe. To remove the quotation marks, you could open the file in WordPad and use the REPLACE command to replace them with nothing. Then, save the file and import it into Excel, invoking the Text-to-Columns command during the import, or copy the corrected data in WordPad and paste in to Excel as you simultaneously parse. Actually there are unwanted char. The dash and following numbers needed to be removed. I didn't mention it until the subject of the dash being interpreted as a minus came up. Thanks you though for the Text-to-Column parsing info and link. They were HELPFUL Quote from: trusky on November 20, 2015, 09:51:05 AM
Actually there are unwanted char. The dash and following numbers needed to be removed.
I believe you could go through the parsing procedure and have Excel treat the dashes as a delimiter. Thereby, you could get the dashes and single digit number after them in a separate column, or perhaps two columns with one containing only the dash and one containing the single digit number. Then, you could just delete those columns since they are not needed.

So, if Col B is NOT 2005 or Column D is not REF then Column G should be blank, right? What about if Col B is 2005 but Col D is not REF or if Col B is 2005 but Col D is not REF?

Where the the price value come from? Is it calculated or looked up somewhere?

You could place this formula in Col G, =IF(B1="2005", IF(D1="REF", PRICE,""),""). This will put the value of PRICE into cell G1 if both conditions REF & 2005 are present or will be blank if only 1 or NEITHER is present. However, I don't have enough info to know where to get the price from. Just to make it a little easier to UNDERSTAND, this is a retail price list for semi-trailers. REF is refrigerated, VAN is dry van and and one not shown is FLT, flatbed. if it is a 2007 REF it will always be $17500. All 2006 REF it will always be $14500. 1991 VAN will be all be $5600
The prices come from somewhere else. There are 74 rows and I just want to make sure that all the prices are correct for each item. I probably should have shown more of the spread sheet, Now you've completely changed the requirements. You don't need an "If-Then" formula, you need a table lookup.

Solve : Odd Request?

Answer»

Hey there everyone thank you for helping me out. So I am part of the Reddit Secret Santa thing and i have an idea for something i want to get/make them. So originally what i wanted to get them was http://www.ebay.com/itm/331361758516 But unfortunately $300+ is insane so i was wondering, Is there a way to do this still for cheap? (make them only call the one number i MEAN.) I mean it doesn't have to be an old corded telephone or rotary PHONE or anything but i feel as if that would have a cooler more authentic feel to it, how would i go about making a phone do this.. It sounds like a super fun thing to try to do but i don't even know where or how to start! I'm not sure if it would be easier but maybe even a home phone that you plug into the wall would be cool. Thank you again for any advice that can get me started with this all!Yes, that is way overpriced.
First, ask your local phone company if they offer that service.
Next, contact companies that offer:
AUTOMATIC DIALERS and NO-DIAL PHONES
These should be available for less than $65.

Some more detail about what you need may help.
Otherwise, it would have to be a DIY (Do it Yourself) project.More details? Okay, so what i am imagining is the person receiving the present will pick up the phone and dial the number to a hotline like the one in the post, and it will go through but i think what you shown me to google is what i am looking for, do you know of any really cheap ones? (Not sure how familiar you are with them or anything )http://www.phonesonsale.com/adr-210.html?gclid=CI74iaT2qskCFU47gQod6hkIng This is the cheapest i have found, do you think there are cheaper or is this as low as its going to get?Oops, I missed a post...
Okay. I think I have an idea of what you have in mind. I'm going to make this post a little longer than normal because I have to kind of do this shooting from the hip, so to speak. I can't find exactly what you're looking for by doing a Google search. Probably I'm using the wrong search items.
The dial less phone I posted is used in commercial applications where they do not want the user to dial out. That is usually a courtesy phone, I house phone, or a phone in a warehouse or someplace where it is used for a special purpose only.
But what I think you want is something for an elderly person. Perhaps somebody with the little bits of Alzheimer's or some other difficulty remembering details. Perhaps this person would like to call one of their family members from time to time if he or she needs assistance. But such individual does not need constant attention all the time, just needs to have a way to call up a friend or two when he or she is lonely or need some help.
Here's what I am thinking about. The local phone company might already know what it is I'm talking about and you can ask them if they have a special arrangement for seniors that need assistance. Sometimes these services are available for very low cost. But otherwise it can be very expensive. So you just have to ask locally.
Now, here's my do-it-yourself project. In the simplest form I would just go find a standard modern telephone that has some kind of speed dial built into it already. Then I would have somebody help me fabricate a cover that would covert that would hide the buttons from view. Some of these speed dial phones have three buttons off to one side that are used for fire, police and ambulance. But these of course have to be programmed ahead of time.
So after making the sure the phone works as it should, I would program the street speed dial buttons for a couple of friends and maybe one EMERGENCY number. Then I would place the cover back over the dialing system so that only the three speed duck buttons would show up. Then I would install this in a convenient place for my elderly relative and instructor how to use the three buttons. I would explain to her that the red button is only for a dire emergency. The other two buttons would be family members. That should be simple enough for her to remember. Because the others buttons are hidden from view, she will be confused by all the other buttons available.
Now here's a variation on the do-it-yourself project. In this one I would cover all the buttons and make them inaccessible to the elderly person. But I would do put something inside the telephone that would cause it to start one of them preset speed dial numbers after the receiver is TAKEN off the hook. This might be done perhaps with a small relay and a capacitor. The relay contacts would CLOSE and the capacitor would momentarily allow some current to go through one of the buttons. This would simulate a button push. Of course, this would take some experimenting. But there are low power relays that can be had at the surplus electronics stores for a very reasonable price. I have not done this, but this is the sort of thing that I used to do when I used to do more things.
Perhaps somebody else here would know how to do a Google search for the exact thing were looking for. There are some cell phones that have features for dialing emergency number, but my feeling about cell phone still kind of negative. They're just too hard for an elderly person to understand, myself included.
Does this describe what you had in mind?
Or did you want a special phone that would dial Moscow in case of World War III?
Just joking.
End of dictation.
I missed a post.
ADR-210 Hotline Auto Dialer
...seems to be exactly what you need. Good find!
Others are more expensive.Hmm i think i like your other take better. Take one of those old phones with the speed dial and cover up/disconnect all of the other buttons except the one that dials the number to the hotline, i have a friend of mine who does fine woodworking and i think that would be a cool project for us to do. And im sure i can find one of those phones online for like $5 or $10. Never even thought of it that way thanks a ton! Glad to help.

Solve : question about system recovery????

A few days ago a select keyboard layout screen popped up on my computer and it wouldn't let me pass it, my mouse and keyboard went dead, and everytime I restarted my computer that same screen popped up. I looked on a few forms about how to get past the page, and imparently it has SOMETHING to do with windows 10, and pretty much the only way to get it BACK is to do a system recovery is that true is there any other way?

but any ways I have a HP computer with windows 7 and when I pressed F11 to get to the system recovery it says that my computer has a potential to get wiped out all files and everything? but on the same page it has where you can click file back up and file back up isn't HIGHLIGHTED where I can click it??? so once I PRESS system recovery will they give me a option to back up my files? is there anyway to get my PICTURES off of the computer? Solve : Emails going into a black hole??

Answer»

Very strange problem, hopefully somoene can help. I have posted this message on several forums and no one is answering. Hopefully someone can here.

My client has Windows Vista, and Microsoft Outlook 2003. I compose an email. It goes to the outbox, then leaves the outbox. I then see it in the sent folder. Problem is, that no matter who I send it to, they never get it. Any single email address - it never goes through, but yet it has left my computer.

I logged in through her providers WEBSITE and can send via webmail, so it definitely is with Microsoft Outlook or something screwed up in Windows. I have completely uninstalled my anti-virus software (Webroot SecureAnywhere) so that no AV software was running, and even booted into safe mode with NETWORKING to see if anything else was blocking it, and STILL no luck. I have reinstalled Microsoft Outlook as well.

Any ideas, anyone? One suggestion would be to check with your ISP and make sure your outgoing mail server for the account(s) in question is correct. Also, have you tried setting up a new account with a different email address just as a test (if you don't have a second email address, set one up with your isp).Allan,

My clients email used to work, and didn't change anything, but I guess that is always an option - to check with the isp.

AND - that is a WONDERFUL idea about setting up another email account! Wow. Your the only one who gave me an idea to try, and I posted this message on SIX forums! I am off to try it. Why didn't I think of that?!?!?! This way we will see if its Outlook, or the email address! Your smart.

THANK YOU!Sometimes ISP's change the outgoing server and send their customers an email letting them know, but the customers may not read them. As for the new account, it's just something to try - save your praise until we see the results Ok, here's the results. Set up my OWN account in Outlook. Sent a test message. Clicked send & received. And - it sent, and I got it!!

So, its her email account?!?!?!?!

So what can I do to fix it? And why would it appear to go through ok, but it doesn't?

THANK YOU! You set me in the right direction. I appears that the account may somehow have become corrupt. I suggest you delete the account and recreate it. Let's see if that helps. If not, perhaps simply a new email account?THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's it! I deleted, re-added, tested, A-OK!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You're very welcome. Glad we could help Did not work. Yeah, it did, for a day. Now its back to the same problem. So I even installed Thunderbird. It worked for one day. Now its back to the same thing. Anyone? Send an email from the webmail interface to see if its the client or the email address.

If it's the email address, contact the email provider.
If its the client, its most likely the settings or a spyware/virus INFESTATION. You should install Security Essentials and do a full sweep.Raptor--> Sending from webmail works just fine. Email provider says that since it works via webmail, the problem is not on their end. I did the send/receive from Safe Mode with Networking, and still had the problem. And a full virus/malware/spyware scan was done.

Please, keep the ideas coming! I appreciate it. Allan--> About the ISP and the outgoing mail server.... If the mail server was wrong, the message wouldn't send at all, correct? She would get an error message? If the outgoing server setting was incorrect the mail would not go out and yes, there should be an error message of some sort.

The fact that it works for a while and then stops would indicate all settings are correct. Not sure why it would stop - and just the one account. There are a number of folks on this site a lot more knowledgeable about this type of thing than I am - perhaps one of them will have some thoughts. Hang around.Would anyone get mad if I posted a 2nd topic with a FULLY summarized scenario? Or is that frowned upon. It would serve no purpose and it would be deleted. This thread will get the appropriate exposure.

Solve : Google Earth Icon Shrinks?

Answer»

This might SOUND a little crazy, but on my desktop the icon for Google Earth seems to be gradually changing.

What originally begun as a little blue and WHITE striped round "earth" of 1/2 to 5/8 inch diameter, is now a little "earth", the same colors, of 3/16 inch diameter. All other aspects of that icon - the little white BOX with the BENT arrow, the name Google Earth underneath, the size and configuration of all my other desk top icons - are all unchanged.

Has anyone ELSE noticed this? Am I going bonkers?

Solve : CD/DVD Burner Drive for Windows 10?

Answer»

Last week I upgraded my OS from Windows 7 to 10. When I tried to BURN a file to a CD, I couldn't find the option "Burn to Disc," so I couldn't finish the process. I went to the Microsoft support site and contacted an agent. I thought I was contacting an expert but all I got, for a half hour, was "Give me a minute while I check my resources." What little I did get was that I need to download a new burner drive. I asked if Microsoft has a burner drive and he said "We do but it probably won't work." So I'm looking for a burner drive, that will work, for Windows 10. I Googled it and got a list of hundreds of outlets. I haven't heard of any of them so don't know if I can trust any. And some cost as much as $100. Do any of you, who use Windows 10, have a working burner drive, for a low cost or even freeware?

I later found the "Burn to Disc" command but, on clicking it, it does nothing. And every time I turn on my PC, I get the message "You have files waiting to be burned to disc."

I LOOKED into the Community, on the Microsoft site, and there and hundreds with the same question but no one getting any answers. To be clear, you want disk burning software, a drive is the actual bit of hardware you ACTUALLY put the CD into.

Windows 10 definitely supports burning CDs, click the "you have items waiting to be burned to CD" with a blank CD in the machine. There should be a button somewhere in the window that appears to burn/write the files to disc.

Failing that, freeware such as CDBurnerXP will do the job fine, there is no need to PAY for anything.Got it. But now it says that every CD, I insert, is incompatible or of poor quality. So I still can't burn a CD.

Solve : Free keylogger for Windows XP?

Answer»

Hello ,

I NEED a free keylogger which supports email reporting...but i am not finding any... Does some of you know one ?

Thanks !This topic is a dangerous one as for how do we know your not an unskilled wanna be hacker looking for a script kiddie to plant onto peoples computers and steal information and mail it to yourself.

There are many ways to see what people are typing without going a script kiddie hacker route!!!!!

I cant suggest any but if you have physical access to the system you can get the keystrokes through a different METHOD. I can count at least 5 ways to do it creatively with physical access to the system. It will be used more like a parental control TOOL... by a father who is far away from its kids, and basically wants to catch instant messages, video cam shoots..., not only typing.Such a request would get a person banned from many coding forums I belong to.

So you say.
There are lots of PENETRATION testing forums, i do not want to disscuss about those now.

Currently i just want to help that father by gave him a simple keylogger free soft, just that.It is against the policy of this forum (I am sure) to give any assistance to anyone wishing to install spyware on any computer, no matter how worthy the reason given.

And also there is the interesting issue of family trust. Many of us would have problems around helping parents SPY on their kids, even if we believed the reason given.

Solve : URI using registry keys?

Answer»

Hello

i am working on a custom URI to open a link on an external PROGRAM when on a web browser.

In order for this to work i have the URI link open a custom program which removes the first 5 characters of the link so that it is usable by the program (VLC).

If i want to refference the program directly using the URI my registry command would be:

Code: [Select]"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --FULLSCREEN "%1"
however this still includes the 5 characters which are normal removed by the custom program. Is there a way of removing the first 5 character of the variable %1 within the registry entry / key?

(I may not be using the correct terminology but i hope i have put what i am looking for in an understandable format)

as an example i have a link which is in the form "vlc://someURL" when the code i quoted earlier is used it passes on the whole string as the variable %1 however i would like to remove the first 5 chars (vlc://) so that only "someURL" is passed. So you already have a program that can grab the url and pass it into command line? And your just looking to strip the first 5 characters from it?

Is there a way to write the info to a text file from where ever its coming from? If so a simple batch file could clean up to remove the first 5 characters and write the trimmed URL to another file. This other file less the first 5 characters can be targeted to grab the URL from.

I already have a batch file which does this, however i was looking to see if it was possible to do it without the batch file. Quote

I already have a batch file which does this, however i was looking to see if it was possible to do it without the batch file.

YES ... however with so many CHOICES of how to do this without batch, we would need to know what language / format = ( Scripted ... compiled on the fly like a Perl Interpreter for a .PL file or Compiled from .CPP to .EXE like with C++ ) you want it in.

Curious as to why your looking for an alternate scripted or compiled solution since batch works fine for you and you already have a batch solution that matches everything you need it to do?

Batch is probably the most compatible with systems if sharing with others, as for when you start programming it into a language you then have to worry about dependencies. Additionally the batch file to do this is quite small compared to the many lines of code to pull off the same process in say C++ where you have to have file open and file close declarations etc. My first choice for a problem like this if I didnt have the batch solution already available to me would be to CREATE it in batch. Not unless it was for a school project or a program that I plan to SHARE with others and slap my name on it would I go into anything more professional looking in say C++ etc.Unfortunately the Registry key parameter format is rather inflexible- I don't believe it is even capable of performing the string manipulations of batch to strip out portions of the string. I'm not 100% sure if it doesn't support that- if it does, you ought to be able to use %1:~5,0%

Solve : Microsoft Outlook - blue text as first line of read messages??

Answer»

This is completely PUZZLING to me....all of a sudden my Outlook started highlighting the first line of read MESSAGES in blue! There have been no other changes, upgrades or new programs added to this machine that would have caused this. I have attached a screen shot of the issue. As you will see, in the column of read messages, all the first lines of the read messages are blue. Does anyone KNOW what setting to change to eliminate this?
Many thanks in advance!
AB

[ATTACHMENT deleted by admin to conserve space]This can be changed in the options of Outlook. It is a setting that sometimes turns on based off what flags were activated with messages, rules, etc. If you CLICK File and go into those options, you should see areas in there for this. I apologize I am not more specific, I can't remember where to find it off the top of my head, but I know it's in there.

Solve : DBMS Design?

Answer»

Hello Guys,

I am Designing a new database for my project and ran into following problem. I define a functional dependency D as -

D -> E

Here D is PRIMARY Key which uniquely DEFINES E.My problem is D is multi valued attribute and because of this i am unable to represent it into RDBMS model. The only solution i can THINK of now is to represent D as comma separated values. But it violates 1NF . So i want to know is there any other WAY of designing it.What about a Composite Primary Key?

I have heard of them, but never had to use them yet. But here is info on them. http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/jeffs/archive/2007/08/23/composite_primary_keys.aspxIf your multi-valued attribute always has the same number of values, split it up into fields, and make all those fields the primary key.

If it has a variable number of elements, most databases support array types. You can have the primary key be an array field.

Solve : Turbo Tax?

Anybody use Turbo Tax ?

I'm planning to get the Home/Business version. I read on the Turbo Tax site that it allows you to download the latest tax forms. The Home/Business package sells for about $110 on the Turbo Tax website, but I'm planning to get a used package from Amazon. Do used or older versions of Turbo Tax allow upgrading to the latest tax forms without any problems? I would THINK so, but wanted to see if anyone could verify.. thx Quote from: joy division on March 24, 2012, 12:49:04 PM

1. Every year.
2. That's the version you need if you have real business with a tax number. I suspect you don't.
3. It's automatic
4. You need TT2011, if it's an earlier version, it won't work for Tax Year 2011.
5. No.
ACTUALLY I do have a tax id #... I've been developing a private computer repair bus. for almost two years.

Ok, so if USED, it doesn't upgrade to allow filing for 2012 when the times comes ? But if I buy one new it DOES allow upgrading for filing later years ?I found the answer here:

http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/General-Product-Purchase/Do-I-have-to-buy-a-new-TurboTax-program-every-year-/GEN12173.html

thxYes, you have to buy it every year. The cost is tax deductible if you itemize.
How have you been doing your taxes until now?
I used the Business version until this year. The Home & Business combo was not the right one for me. Had to use the Business one, then the individual one so had to buy 2 different ones.

http://turbotax.intuit.com/small-business-taxes/My situation is kind of complicated. I haven't been required to file for the past 12 years or so, to make a long story short. But 2011 was slow since I didn't advertise much and naturally not many people KNOW about me yet... On top of that I moved to another CITY after the little advertising I DID do... I haven't advertised much because I haven't had all the equipment/parts I need for troubleshooting computers in a timely manner. Been BUYING a little each month.

I actually discovered recently that cSet, a tax prep. service in my area will do my taxes for free since I meet the requirements for the service. I hoped turbo tax was a one-time-purchase-thing so I wouldn't have to bother with buying it every year..... Great that it's tax deductible but I'd rather just get the free service.

Solve : Hotmail - sent mail?

Answer»

I was/am using Windows Live Mail which has/had Hotmail installed on it. A while back the mail WOULD not download into hotmail, so I've had to go on google and get it that way (tho sometimes it comes GOOD on WLM). For some reason, the sent file stays empty and the one way I can see what mail I have sent on hotmail is to go on google. I have now installed Windows 10, and the same thing happens - no sent mail, YET surprisingly today the hotmail did download on WLM. I'm sure I don't have a setting which says not to save sent items, or if I have, where do I find it?Just a question for clarification. What do you mean by "I've had to go on google and get it that way"? Google is a company. Their search engine is accessed by going to google.com, a website run by Google. Hotmail is not a Google email account; Google's email accounts end with gmail.com.

Google has a web browser called Chrome. So, when you say "I've had to go on google and get it that way", do you mean you are using Chrome? If so, then please say Chrome so that you are using correct terminology.

Solve : Corel Draw 12: Runtime error when opening cdr file??

Answer»

I have this problem. I'm working with .cdr file which is large in size(93Mb). But today suddenly when I run a custom Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 on a computer running Microsoft Windows XP, I receive the following error message:
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Glitches excluded relating to the size of the file, as in previous similar situation was taken the last of the normally open cdr files. Working with it was continued and it worked perfectly. Of RAM enough (behavior Corel tested on 3 computers, one with 2 GB of RAM). VIRTUAL memory and SPACE on the screw enough...
To fix Gluck did the following:
1. Put Service Pack (SP1) for Corel Draw 12 , the situation has not changed...
2. Updated dll for mfc 7.1, the situation has not changed...
3. Replaced the files Msvcrt.dll and Msvcirt.dll from 7 to 6. Replacing one of these files (don't remember exactly what) does not manifest itself, and when replacing other Windows XP it does not boot...
Full uninstall of software, reboot of system and reinstall of software.... does that fix the problem?

If that doesnt fix this, then a clean install of the system would be best to correct for corruption with the OS, and then reinstall Corel Draw 12 and be back up and running.

*Be sure to backup your data to an external drive FIRST before a reinstall of OS if thats the route you go with this.Try to download the hotfix on the Microsoft website and fix this error. Look in more detail here.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/884538
If there is hope, then to open this buggy file, you must either manually delve into binary code or to have a special app to open damaged cdr files...I from my experience can recommend a good program CDR Repair KIT for this. Hope I helped you!) http://www.cdr.repair/
Also, I think that this information will be useful to you.

Good news...what fixed it BTW / ?

Solve : Label creation software?

Answer»

I was hoping SOMEONE could point me in the direction of a decent software that could help me design labels? They are small address labels for glass jars with measurements of 1x2 5/8inches. I am not ADVANCED enough for anything like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Are the labels clearly designed to be used with a computer? What is the brand and specifications of the labels?

Do you have a WORD processor installed? If so, what is it? Also, what labels? Are you using labels that come on a sheet the can feed feed to a laser-jet printer?

Here is a link to read over:
Print with Avery Templates
Maybe you want a Avery 5160 label.
The are other companies that also MAKE blank sheets for labels.
Hello guys THANKS for the reply. These are small sticky address sized labels that will be going through a basic inkjet printer. There are 30 labels per sheet and the sheet is the size of a standard piece of paper (21.5cm x 27.9cm)

Solve : Which Office should I buy?

Answer»

Thanks to Geek 9Pm and camerongray for your help in buying my AIO. Now I NEED some more advice.

I need a office version and to many out there to decide which one is for us. We use word and excel 99.99% of the time. I don't use outlook.

Can you help an old man once more and thanks again for the advice on the AIO it works great Get Libre' Office...it's Free.
Does everything Office does and is 100% compatible.Libre Office is good enough for a typical user. Most people don't use more than the basic features of an Office suite anyway.

The primary issue is that while Libre Office can save documents saved in Word, and Save documents in a format that Word can open (and similar for Calc,Impress, etc.) it doesn't really maintain the appearance- Opening a LibreOffice document in Word can present PAGINATION, font, or other issues that require adjustments to look right, and vice versa. So if there is going to be any measure of interoperation with actual Office programs that can be a concern.

For constructing and using the documents in a local setting- creating documents or budgets, printing them locally, or creating reasonably simple documents, it should do the job well enough, though. Don't expect to use Libreoffice to construct a resume and send that as a .docx file to prospective employers, though.

Another possible alternative could be Google Apps. Google has a few office tools you can use straight in your browser. You create a google account (or use an existing one, of course) and you can create documents, spreadsheets, etc.

Both Google Apps as well as LibreOffice are free- Definitely worth giving them both a shot to see if they meet your needs before you put any cash down on MS Office.Another free option is WPS Office 10. I've been using it for a few months with Windows 10.

I cannot say whether the same issues BC_Programmer stated his post might occur. I have used two Excel 2007 spreadsheets developed with Microsoft Office 2007 on another computer and have not noticed any removal of features by WPS Office if I re-open the files with Excel 2007. I haven't OPENED Word files in WPS Writer, or at least not enough to have observed whether changes to a Word file occurred when opened and updated with WPS Writer. All the above recommendations are excellent.

If some in your group prefer Apple OS X, You might consider a free Office Suite that runs very well on the Mac.

5 free open source alternatives to Microsoft Office
The above PC WORLD article reviews NeoOffice, an Office applications for Mac OS X
Quote

he NeoOffice suite is an OpenOffice fork that was created before OpenOffice and LibreOffice supported Mac OS.
NeoOffice has nearly all of the features found in OpenOffice.org but, in focusing on the unique needs of Mac users, offers a Mac-like installation process and better SUPPORT for Mac features, including integration into the OS X interface and use of Mac OS X fonts and printing services.
