People now look critically at the work of those who hold power, the rich, the powerful. They express their dissatisfaction loudly. It shows they are no longer subjects but citizens of a democratic country. In a democratic country like India, constitution provides provisions for the protection of our fundamental rights. Democracy promotes dignity and freedom of an individual in the following manner:\tIt recognises the passion of respect and freedom of the people. Earlier, most societies across the world disrespected women. Long struggles by women have made people realise the importance of respect and equal treatment in a democracy.\tIt has helped the disadvantaged and discriminated castes of the society by providing them with equal status and opportunity.
