The age of father 8years ago was 5 times that of his son 8 years hence his age will be 8 years more than twice the age of his son. Find present age of father and son? |
|
Answer» ong>Step-by-step explanation: Suppose present age of father is x and present age of son is y . Age of father = x - 8 Age of son = y - 8 -- Age of father was 5 times of his son i.e. x - 8 = 5(y - 8) x - 8 = 5y - 40 x - 5y = -32 ---------(1) -- 8 years hence Age of father = x + 8 Age of son = y + 8 --- Age of father will be 8 years more than twice the age of his son i.e. x + 8 = 2(y + 8) + 8 x + 8 = 2y + 16 + 8 x + 8 = 2y + 24 x - 2y = 16 -----------(2) APPLYING Elimination method x - 5y = -32 x - 2y = 16 -. +. - ------------------ -3y = -48 3y = 48 y = 16 Applying y=16 in eqn (2) x - 2(16) = 16 x - 32 =16 x = 16+ 32 x = 48 Therefore the present age of father is 48 years and present age of son is 16 years |

4. In AABC, D and E are points on the sides AB and AC respectively, such that DE || BC. If AD = 5 cm, DB = 8 cm and AC = 6.5 cm, find AE. |
|
Answer» ong>Answer: Converse of basic proportionality theorem :
If a line divides any two sides of a triangle in the same ratio then the line must be parallel to the THIRD side.
SOLUTION :
1) Given : D and E are the points on sides AB and AC. AB = 12 cm, AD = 8 cm, AE = 12 cm, and AC = 18 cm.
To prove : DE || BC.
DB= AB - AD
DB = 12 - 8
DB = 4 cm
EC = AC - AE
EC = 18 - 12
EC = 6 cm
In ∆ABC,
AD / DB = 8/4 = 2
And, AE/EC = 12/ 6 = 2
so, AD / DB = AE/EC
Hence, DE || BC. [By Converse of basic proportionality theorem]
2) Given : D and E are the points on sides AB and AC. AB = 5.6 cm, AD = 1.4 cm, AC = 7.2 cm, and AE = 1.8 cm.
To prove : DE || BC.
DB= AB - AD
DB = 5.6 - 1.4
DB = 4.2 cm
EC = AC - AE
EC = 7.2 - 1.8
EC = 5.4 cm
In ∆ABC,
AD / DB = 1.4 /4.2 = 1/3
And, AE/EC = 1.8/ 5.4 = 1/3
so, AD / DB = AE/EC
Hence, DE || BC. [By Converse of basic proportionality theorem]
3) Given : D and E are the points on sides AB and AC. AB = 10.8 cm, BD = 4.5 cm, AC = 4.8 cm, and AE = 2.8 cm
To prove : DE || BC.
AD = AB – DB
AD = 10.8 – 4.5
AD = 6.3 cm
EC = AC – AE
EC = 4.8 – 2.8
EC = 2 cm
In ∆ABC,
AD / DB = 6.3/4.5 = 7/5 = 1.4

Amy's weight this year is 50 pounds less than twice her weight from last year. If she weighs 120 pounds this year, write an equation for her weight last year and calculate her weight from last year. Choose three or more different weights for amy, maintaining the same conditions, and graph the relationship for a variety of cases. based on your observation, does the graph make sense? Explain your finding |
|
Answer» ong>Given : Amy's weight this year is 50 pounds less than twice her weight from last year. she weighs 120 pounds this year, To Find : an equation for her weight last year and calculate her weight for last year. Solution Assume that last year Amy's weight = W pound Amy's weight this year is 50 pounds less than twice her weight from last year. = 2 W - 50 she weighs 120 pounds this year => 2W - 50 = 120 => 2W = 170 => W = 85 Amy's weight last Year = 85 Pound W Last Year Weight 50 50 60 55 70 60 80 65 90 70 100 75 110 80 120 85 130 90 140 95 150 100 Graph is linear Learn more: The equation above shows how temperature F represent the cost of parking for four wheeler in terms of linear ... |

|
Answer» ONG>Question :- 4.In the GIVEN polygon, BO = 7x + 4 and OD = 18. Find x ? Solution :- As from image we can see that, we have given → BC is parallel to AD . → AB is parallel to DC. So, Polygon ABCD is a parallelogram. Now, Diagonals BD and CA of parallelogram are intersecting at O. As we know :-
Therefore,
Than, → BO = OD → 7x + 4 = 18 → 7x = 18 - 4 → 7x = 14 Dividing both sides by 7, → x = 2. (Ans.) Hence, value of x will be 2. |
