Information of formation of state of Maharashtra

Answer»

When was Maharashtra formed?

1 May 1960

Why is Maharashtra Day celebrated?

Maharashtra Day is commonly associated with parades and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history and traditions of Maharashtra. It is celebrated to commemorate the creation of a Marathi speaking state of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra was formed on 1 May 1960 by merging the western and south-western parts of the Bombay State, Berar and Vidarbha, and the north-western parts of the Hyderabad State and splitting Saurashtra (in present-day Gujarat) by the States Re ORGANISATION Act. ... Maharashtra is the third-most urbanised state of India.

Formation Process:

It was in the year 1960 when the state of Bombay was divided to create two news states namely Maharashtra and Gujarat. It was under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 that the boundaries of the state were defined. The reason behind the issue was the linguistic difference between those who spoke Marathi, Gujarati and Konkani languages.

The demand which turned into a revolution, for a separate state for Marathi-speaking people began in the early 1940s. The force behind the revolution was Samyukta Mahasabha Organization, formed in present-day Mumbai.

However, the revolution COULD not materialize completely due to Quit India Movement and World War II.

It took more than two decades with several commissions ADVOCATING for a separate state. The reorganization of 1956 led to the rise of two movements – Samyukta Maharashtra Movement and Mahagujarat Movement. These movements demanded the break-up of the new Bombay State into one Marathi-speaking state and one Gujarati-speaking state. These movements laid the base for what we know today as the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. In the year 1956, then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru announced Bombay as Union territory for FIVE years. Later, the Lok Sabha passed a resolution for a bilingual state of Bombay. In March 1960 the Lower house of the Indian Parliament proposes the state resolution. A MONTH later the resolution on the state of Bombay is approved by the Lower House. On May 1st, 1960, the state of Maharashtra came into existence with Bombay as its capital. Both states officially came into existence on May 1, 1960, as a result of the Bombay Re-organisation Act of 1960. So, it is not just Maharashtra Day but also celebrated as Gujarat Day in Gujarat.

I need a bit of help for my task of writing an assignment on the Mauryan empire of India and the topic of social and slavery. Could anyone help me with a bit of note?

Answer»

Answer:

Mauryan empire of india

Mauryan empire, in ancient India, a state centred at Pataliputra (LATER Patna) near the junction of the Son and Ganges (Ganga) rivers. It lasted from about 321 to 185 BCE and was the first empire to encompass most of the Indian subcontinent.

The Mauryan empire was an efficient and highly organized autocracy with a standing army and civil service. That bureaucracy and its operation were the model for the Artha-shastra (“The Science of Material Gain”), a work of political economy similar in tone and scope to Niccolò Machiavelli’s The Prince.

In the wake of the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE, Chandragupta (or Chandragupta Maurya), founder of the Mauryan dynasty, conquered the Punjab region from the southeastern edges of Alexander’s former empire. The Seleucids, a contending dynasty for Alexander’s legacy, attempted to advance into India in 305 BCE. They were defeated and, after the conclusion of a treaty, the Seleucids and the Mauryans maintained friendly relations. Now ENJOYING peace along the western border, Chandragupta was free to focus his military exploits to the east and to the south. By the end of his reign, he had extended his empire across northern India. His son, Bindusara, continued the empire’s expansion WELL into the DECCAN, stopping around the region known today as Karnataka.

Bindusara’s son, Ashoka (reigned c. 265–238 BCE or c. 273–232 BCE), added Kalinga to the already vast empire. That addition would be the last, however, as the brutal conquest of that region led Ashoka to abandon military conquest. Rather, he embraced Buddhism and instituted dharma as the state ideology.

Much is known of the reign of this Buddhist Mauryan emperor from the edicts inscribed on exquisitely executed stone pillars that he had erected throughout his realm. Those edicts constitute some of the oldest deciphered original texts of India. After his conversion, his notion of conquest consisted of sending many Buddhist emissaries throughout Asia and commissioning some of the finest works of ancient Indian art.

After Ashoka’s death the empire shrank because of invasions, defections by southern princes, and quarrels over ascension. The last ruler, Brihadratha, was killed in 185 BCE by his Brahman commander in chief, Pushyamitra, who then FOUNDED the Shunga dynasty, which ruled in central India for about a century.

Hey guys...write an essay on 7 wonders of the world don't SPAM...SPAM ANSWERS WILL BE REPORTED....

Answer»

Answer:

The seven wonders of the ancient world is a list of very important buildings a great Greek historian called Herodotus wrote, over two thousand years ago. They are seven because he only wrote about the greatest structures he knew, he did not know much Asia and the Americas.

People have always felt the need to create lists.  Lists are accounts of vital PLACES, places, people or events.  About two thousand five hundred years ago a Greek historian named Herodotus is said to have made a list of what he thought were the greatest structures in the world.  His list of places BECAME known as the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

A wonder is a feeling created by something strange and amazing. It’s created when one sees or feels something rare and UNEXPECTED. Although there are several wonders in the world there are seven which are recognized as being ancient.

The great PYRAMIDS of Egypt

These are the buildings most associated with Egypt. They are found at a place called Giza which is a necropolis of ancient Memphis (Ancient wonders of the world). The pyramid age, which has a life span of over four thousand years, began when buildings began to crop up within the third dynasty under the reigns of Djoser. It is believed the shape symbolized the prehistoric knoll from which they believed life emerged.

The bigger sizes of these pyramids symbolize the powers which were vested upon the Pharaohs, the power and success of their country.

The hanging gardens of Babylon

They are also known as the hanging gardens of Semiramis. It was built by Nebuchadnezzar II in 200 BCE, to please his beloved wife Semiramis. Historically the Garden was 100 feet long by 100 feet wide and built in tiers to resemble a theatre (The seven wonders of the ancient world). There is a big doubt amongst historians and archaeologists if this paradise ever existed. It is believed that this garden was built in the middle of a Mesopotamian desert. The garden was irrigated by the River Euphrates by the use of chain pumps.

The statue of Zeus at Olympia

This is a seated sculpture of Zeus who was the king of the Greek gods. It measured 39 feet tall. It was made by a great sculptor called Phidias, and erected in the Zeus temple in 432 BC at Olympia. It is made of plated Bronze and Ivory (Romer, John p48). There are many myths to the cause of its destruction; some claim that it was destroyed by the lauseion fire in 475 while others say it burnt with the temple in 425 AD (The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World).

The temple of Artemis at Ephesus

This is a shrine built by an architect named Theodorus. It was 300 feet in length and 150 feet in height. It was built for the Greek goddess of fertility called Ephesus Artemis. The temple was the pride of Ephesus until one man named Herostratus burnt the temple to the ground. This temple offered a place for worship of this goddess by the Greek. Although it was destroyed its importance made the people build it back severally, although it was finally destroyed in a raid in 262 BC. At the moment place where the building stood is a marshy field. A single column is built to remind tourists its existence as an ancient wonder.

The mausoleum at Halicarnassus

This is a special tomb built by queen Artemisia as attribute to her husband king Mausolus. Because of its beauty and specialty it became one of the seven ancient wonders.

The Colossus of Rhodes

After the death of Alexander the great, his generals fought severely to take over this kingdom.  Ptolemy, Antigous and Seleucus managed to divide the kingdom among them. Because Ptolemy received much support from the people of the Rhode Island, Antigous became so angry that he sent his son Demetrius to punish the residents of the island. Although Demetrius had a large ARMY, he was defeated by the Rhodians who were smart (Clayton, Peter A. p60). To celebrate their victory, they decided to build a huge statue of the god Helios. It stood over 30 meters high making it one of the tallest statues of the ancient world.

The light house of Alexandria

This is a tower built in third century, on the Pharos Island in Egypt to serve as the Islands land mark. It is believed it was ruined because of an earthquake in 1303 AD.

Conclusion

The great pyramids are used for research; this research is carried out to know the history of the ancient Egypt. By studying these pyramids one gets to know the way of life, culture and beliefs of the Egyptian. Artifacts and writings inside these pyramid enables us learn more about early civilization. They also serve as tourist destination. Many people all over the world come to Egypt in large numbers just to see this great wonder.

We need these wonders to help us know why they were built, like the Colossus of Rhodes was built to celebrate victory over war. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is needed because it symbolizes love because it shows us how special love is.
