Write a story about a robbery in your house |
|
Answer» Explanation: My dad was out of town, and my mother, my grandmother, my sister and I were the only ones in the house at the time of the incident. It was early dawn, and my grandmother had gone to the dairy to buy milk, just like any other DAY. The rest of us in the house were still sleeping. It was my grandmother's HABIT to not lock the door when going to buy milk as the dairy is just a few steps away from our apartment, and locking our door is not an easy job. It requires sufficient amount of strength and technique. She bought milk, came back, and put it on the stove to boil. This was her daily routine. She was in the kitchen, waiting for the milk to boil, when she FELT someone going from my room to my mother's room. She thought that my mother was awake, and called our her name, but got no response. As, she started moving towards my mother's room, she saw, in the darkness, a man, standing by the door of the master bedroom. At this point, she realised that he was a thief and she screamed as loudly as she could. I woke up all of a sudden, and my eyes caught a shadow running across our hall. Everyone in the house was now awake. The thief had ran away, but we were still scared. First thing my mother did was, lock the door from inside. Then, she and I looked around in the house to ensure the thief had no other accomplice. We took turns to look through the peephole on the door to see if he was still outside. The thief was nowhere to be seen. We did not open the door yet. Our neighbours were out of town too. Mom called dad, and explained him everything. Dad TOLD us to inform the police station. We now had to open the door. Before doing that, I brought a steel rod from inside and kept it HANDY, just in case it is needed. We opened the door, and found a pair of worn out shoes, and a cap on the ground. They belonged to the thief. I and my mother went to the police station which was just a few minutes walk away. That was the first time for us in a police station. Explained everything to the police officers, and two of them came home to investigate further. They asked a few questions. By then, the family that stayed in the flat above us came rushing, when they saw police at our home. They also readily cooperated with the police. The police officers collected the thief's belongings as evidence and left, giving us their personal numbers to call if needed. There was no harm done to any of us in the house and nothing stolen. But, I am sure the thief regretted choosing our house, as he lost his belongings at our place and had to escape barefoot. |

Children today live in a world where smart phones are ubiquitous. For them, access to smart phone is natural. And they are eager to have their own. There are many discussions about the ideal age for children to have their first smart phone. Obviously, every child is different and so are their circumstances. However, experts agree on the need for children to be mature and understand the scope of what they have in their hand. Children must be able to understand the dangers of sharing too many details of their life and personal data on the Internet.2. They have to be aware that information published online remains publicly available and can be easily found. Last but not the least; they need to understand that following good manners matters; in other words, what in the online world is known as 'netiquette' is important. Experts usually agree on the fact that children may have reached the point of maturity necessary to have their own smart phone around 11-12 years.3. Nonetheless, mobiles will require parental supervision for many reasons: to protect children, to teach them how to properly use smart phones, to avoid possible problems and finally to take responsibility for its eventual misuse. When looking at some statistics, we discovered from a recent study that 56% of children between 10 and 13 years have a smart phone, but most surprising is that 25% of children between 2 and 5 years also have one. Do kids need to have a smart phone at such a young age?4. In contrast according to another survey 25% of parents believe that a child under 12 years must have a basic phone, 54% think that having a mobile phone is suitable for children between 13 and 15 years, and 66% believe that children under 16 should not have a smart phone.5. Among the advantages parents find in mobile phones for kids is that they can call their parents in case of emergency. Many parents give their children a very basic feature phone when they begin to walk home from school alone. But children ask their parents for a smart phone because their classmates already have one. But smart phones are not for socializing purposes only6. Children can learn a lot through their mobile, especially because, as parents, we teach them to take advantage of mobile educational opportunities. The age at which kids should have their own smart phone can be difficult decision for parents but you have to measure the advantages and disadvantage in each particular case.On the basis of your reading of the passage, ANY TEN of the following questions.1. Why access to mobile phone natural for today's youth? a) Because smart phones are fashionableb) Because education is completely Online.c) Because everything they need is given to them in smart phone.d) Because they need to keep pace with the world.2. Children having smart phone must be aware that,a) They must maintain manners. b) They need to be mature.c) Their public information is publically available all the time.d) Their personal information is at risk.3. What is netiquette?a) Manners to be maintained while using smart phone. b) Manners to be maintained while using the internet. c) New mannerism emerging with newer technology. d) The ways in which one must use the social media sites.4. Which of the following lists the prerequisites to owning a smart phone?1. Popularity2. Maturity4. Social media pressure3. Awareness of dangers 5. Knowledge of scope 6. Respect for eldersa) 1,3 and 5c) 1,4 and 6b) 2,3 and 5d) 2,4 and 65.
