2.

Why do electron afinity increases across the period

Answer»

AFFINITY INCREASES upward for the groups and from left to right ACROSS periodsof a periodic table because the electronsadded to ENERGY levels become closer to the nucleus, THUS a stronger attraction between the nucleus and its electrons

3.

What is the total no. of pairs of electrons atleast same quantum no.s for Be

Answer»

r model was a one-dimensional model that used one quantum number to describe the distribution of electrons in the atom. The only information that was important was the size of the orbit, which was described by the n quantum number. Schringer's model allowed the electron to occupy three-dimensional space. It therefore required three coordinates, or three quantum numbers, to describe the ORBITALS in which electrons can be found. The three coordinates that come from Schringer's wave EQUATIONS are the principal (n), angular (l), and magnetic (m) quantum numbers. These quantum numbers describe the size, shape, and orientation in space of the orbitals on an atom. The principal quantum number (n) describes the size of the ORBITAL. Orbitals for which n = 2 are larger than those for which n = 1, for example. Because they have opposite electrical charges, electrons are attracted to the nucleus of the atom. Energy must therefore be absorbed to excite an electron from an orbital in which the electron is close to the nucleus (n = 1) into an orbital in which it is further from the nucleus (n = 2). The principal quantum number therefore indirectly describes the energy of an orbital. The angular quantum number (l) describes the shape of the orbital. Orbitals have shapes that are best described as spherical (l = 0), POLAR (l = 1), or cloverleaf (l = 2). They can even take on more complex shapes as the value of the angular quantum number becomes larger. Diagram There is only one way in which a sphere (l = 0) can be oriented in space. Orbitals that have polar (l = 1) or cloverleaf (l = 2) shapes, however, can point in different directions. We therefore need a third quantum number, known as the magnetic quantum number (m), to describe the orientation in space of a particular orbital. (It is called the magnetic quantum number because the effect of different orientations of orbitals was first observed in the presence of a magnetic field.)

4.

Explain optical activity of 2-chlorobutan

Answer»

2-chlorobutane is an optically ACTIVE molecule. the CARBON numbered as 2 in the molecule is chiral as it has different substituents [-c2h5, ch3, H, Cl] attached to it. thus it rotates plane polarised LIGHT in different directions GIVING rise to two enantiomers [R, S] of the compound.

Verify the Beer Lambert law for KMnO4 and determine concentration of the given solution of the substance from absorption measurement

Answer»

-Lambert's law states that ABSORPTION of solution is light by the solution is directly PROPORTIONAL to it's path-length and concentration. 2) MATHEMATICALLY, it is expressed as A = ∈bc.where, A = absorbance∈ = molar extinction coefficientb = path LENGTHC = concentration3) It is possible to determine the concentration of unknown sample solution (in present case KMnO4)  using calibration curve method. 4) In calibration curve method, series of standard solutions of known concentration is prepared. Absorbance of each of the solution is monitored with the HELP of spectro-photometer.  5) A graph of absorbance Vs concentration is prepared (as shown in figure below). 6) Finally, solution of unknown concentration is introduced in the path of light and it's absorbance is recorded. 7) From the calibration curve and absorbance of unknown sample solution of KMnO4, it is possible to determine the concentration of unknown sample solution.

Answer»

ogous series is the one in which the MEMBERS have a same general formula and the consecutive members deoffer from each other by 14 a.m.u. or an ALKYL radicle (CH2).Here, CH4 and C3H8 both have the same generations formula of Alkane i.e., C(n)H(2n+2).TAKING n=1, we get CH4Taking n=3, we get C3H8. THEREFORE, they are members of same homologous series. Thanks.Hope this helps you..!!

43.

Is electrolytic reduction of aqueous alcl3 possible?

Answer»

e temperature of aluminum chloride is above its melting point, aluminum chloride is a molten salt. Two types of ions are present, Al3+and CL-. Both are in the molten state (which is designated as (l)). The molten salt is similar to a liquid, except the ions are not bound TOGETHER (like H2O in liquid water) and can move indendently of one another. The aluminum ions cannot lose any additional electrons because they already have a noble gas configuration; they can only be reduced. This means that chloride is oxidized (to Cl2). At the high temperatures employed with molten salts, molecular CHLORINE is in the gas state.(a) Reduction takes place at the CATHODE: aluminum metal forms from aluminum ions in the molten salt.
