What is conditional probability of yy, that a pea plant has two dominant? |
|
Answer» nThe problem statement yields the obvious facts that P[L] = 0.16 and P[H] = 0.10.The words “10% of the ticks that had either Lyme DISEASE or HGE carried bothdiseases” can be written asP [LH|L∪H] = 0.10.(1)(a) SinceLH⊂L∪H,P [LH|L∪H] =P [LH∩(L∪H)]P [L∪H]=P [LH]P [L∪H]= 0.10.(2)Thus,P [LH] = 0.10 P [L∪H] = 0.10 (P [L] + P [H]-P [LH]).(3)Since P[L] = 0.16 and P[H] = 0.10,P [LH] =0.10 (0.16 + 0.10)1.1= 0.0236.(4)(b) The conditional PROBABILITY that a tick has HGE given that it has Lymedisease isP [H|L] =P [LH]P [L]=0.02360.16= 0.1475.(5)Problem 1.5.1 SolutionFrom the table we look to add all the mutually exclusive EVENTS to find each prob-ability.(a) The probability that a caller makes no hand-offs isP [H0] = P [LH0] + P [BH0] = 0.1 + 0.4 = 0.5.(1)(b) The probability that a call is brief isP [B] = P [BH0] + P [BH1] + P [BH2] = 0.4 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 0.6.(2)(c) The probability that a call is long or makes at least two hand-offs isP [L∪H2] = P [LH0] + P [LH1] + P [LH2] + P [BH2]= 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.2 + 0.1 = 0.5.(3)21 |

Name the three glands which associated with the digestive system in humans also name their secretions |
|
Answer» vary glands secrete saliva along with enzymes. ptyline is the STARCH hydrolyzing enzyme SECRETED by salivary glands in human beings. It is also called as salivary amylase. Ptyline secreted in the mouth BRINGS about digestion of starch in the mouth itself. It hydrolyses starch into disaccharaides like maltose and ISOMALTOSE and other small dextrins called as limit dextrins. Ptyalin hydrolyses at about 30 percent of the starch in the mout itself. b) Gastric glands secrete HCL, pepsinogen, mucous.Gastric juice is a secretion of gastric glands located in the lining of the stomach. It is mainly made up of electrolytes, mucus, enzymes, hydrochloric acid, intrinsic factor etc. HCl secreted by parietal cells provides acidic medium for many enzymes to get activated. Neck cells secrete mucus which lubricated the passage of the food. Chief cells secrete pepsinogen which helps in the digestion of proteins after getting activated into pepsin by HCl. Enzymes of the gastric juice bring about digestion of different components of the food. Gastric lipase helps in emulsification of lipids in the stomach. Partially digested food in the stomach is called as chyme and this passes on into small intestine c) Intestinal glands are present in the inner lining of small intestine. These secrete various enzymes which aid in the process of digestion of all the components of food. Maltase, sucrase and lactase bring about digestion of carbohydrates. Peptidases help in digestion of proteins. ENTEROKINASE helps in the activation of other enzymes d) Liver is the largest gland in our body. The liver secretes a yellowish green watery fluid called bile. It is temporarily stored in a sac called the gall bladder. Bile provides an alkaline environment for many enzymes to get active. It also reduces the acidity of chyme. Bile plays an important role in the digestion of fats. Bile is sent into duodenum through a narrow tube-like structure called the bile duct. Bile breaks the larger fat molecules into tiny droplets, thereby increasing their surface area, which helps in the digestion of fats easily. e) Pancreas is the mixed gland. It acts as both endocrine and exocrine gland. The pancreas secretes the pancreatic juice that helps to digest carbohydrates, proteins and fats. The pancreatic juice converts carbohydrates into simple sugars and glucose, proteins into amino acids, and the lipids into fatty acids and glycerol. Trypsin and chymotrypsin help in the digestion of proteins. |

Which sense organ not relayed through hypothalamus |
|
Answer» discussed in a previous blog on the sense of taste, smell is one of our two chemical senses. Our olfactory RECEPTORS transform chemical signals—primarily from odors, but from other chemical signals as well—into electrical signals (as opposed to physical signals). Specifically, odor molecules will bind to olfactory receptors in the NASAL mucosa, or the membrane that lines the nostrils. This is what stimulates the neurons to send signals to the brain. While smell seems pretty straightforward, our nose is actually designed for two different senses of smell (or olfaction). There’s the olfactory system, which is how we PERCEIVE odors both pleasant and aversive. However, we also have an accessory/secondary olfactory sense, which detects PHEROMONES and odorless chemicals that activate the body’s EMOTIONAL and limbic systems. |

What is the role of boron in pollen germination |
|
Answer» y the ROLE of BORON in pollen germination and pollen tube growth of Picea meyeri Rehd. ET Wils., pollen grains were cultured in standard medium or boron-deficient medium. Effects of boron on the localization of pectins and callose in the walls of pollen tubes were observed by laser scanning confocal microscopy after STAINING with aniline blue or immunolabeling with antibodies JIM5 and JIM7. Changes in the structures of pectins and phenolics were investigated by fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy. Pollen germination in boron-deficient medium ranged from 18 to 24%, whereas pollen germination in standard medium reached 61%. Callose accumulated in the tip-regions of pollen tubes cultured in boron-deficient medium, but not in standard medium. Immunolabeling with antibody JIM5 revealed that acidic pectin preferentially accumulated in the tip regions of pollen tubes cultured in boron-deficient medium, whereas acidic pectin was weakly distributed along the entire lengths of pollen tubes cultured in standard medium. Esterified pectin, detected by immunolabeling with antibody JIM7, showed a similar distribution pattern in pollen tubes in both the boron-deficient and standard treatments. The FTIR spectra indicated slight increases in contents of phenolics and carboxylic acids and a substantial decrease in the content of saturated esters in boron-deficient pollen tubes compared with normal pollen tubes. The FTIR spectra confirmed that boron DEFICIENCY enhanced acidic pectin accumulation in pollen tubes, which may be associated with the increased content of carboxylic acid. We conclude that boron has a regulatory role in pollen germination and pollen tube growth. |

Differentiate between acute and chronic disease congenital and acquired disease infectious and non-infectious diseases |
| Answer» TAL disease are present since birth while acquired disease are those which develop after birth. Congenital disease are permanent and not easily curable while acquired disease can be cured. The disease which passes from generation to generation is said to be congenital.Acute CONDITIONS are severe and sudden in onset. This could describe anything from a broken bone to an asthma attack. A chronic condition, by contrast is a long-developing SYNDROME, such as osteoporosis or asthma. Note that osteoporosis, a chronic condition, may cause a broken bone, an acute condition. The most common cause of infectious diseases are pathogens called viruses and bacteria, but they can ALSO be caused by fungi or protozoa. Pathogens can be spread in different ways. ... Noninfectious diseases are not TRANSMITTED from one person to another and are not caused by pathogens. | |
