NOTE: All work to be done in a thin copy SUBJECT: ENGLISH, CLASS SRead the passage.Abraham Lincoln. the sateenth President of United States of America writes a letter to hisson's (Robert Todd) teacher when he started going to school, requesting the teacher to treathim gently Uncoln calls this as a strange and new adventure which is going to teach Robertmany things in life.Requesting the teacher to hold him by his hand and make him realize thatfor every enemy, there is a friend and that he should be able to judge who is true and who isnot. Everyone around him is not a bad person but many are dedicated too He also tells theteacher to teach him how to gracefully lose and enjoy winning when he does He wants histeacher to teach him to be gentle with people, steer him away from envy, to laugh when he issad to scoff at cynics that there is no shame in tears and to ponder over the extreme mysteryof birds in the sky. Developing faith in his own ideas even if everyone tells him that they arewrong is something that he wants his teacher to teach him. The teacher is requested to teachhis son the patience to listen to others to be brave, to have sublime faith in God .not tofollow the cnwd but to filter all that he hears and take only the good that comes throughThese are the things that he tells his son's teacher to teach his son in a letter because hebelleves his son to be a nice boy who desenes all these things so that he is able to face theharsh realities and challenges of life. Now answer the following:a) How is the beginning of school described by Abraham Lincoln ?a) Why do you think Uncoln wanted his son to be trained so wel by his teacher? What does it mean by the words 'steer him away from envy? Why does Robert's father want his son's teacher to hold him by his hand ?Now, find the meanings of the following words and form sentences with them.

Answer»

ong>Answer:

a) I dont THINK its MENTIONED in the passage....

b) because the beginning of the school is very much important time of a child's growth. They learn everything from an early age and remember it till adulthood. so, its important for EVERY child to be treated gently and in care for them to grow into a better person.

c) 'steer away from envy' probably means that he wants the teacher to teach Robert how to not get on the path of JEALOUSY as it can ruin anyone. and to be happy and content in what he has.

d) he asked the teacher to hold Robert by his hand so that the teacher could help Robert in the times when he FAILS, when he is down and help him back up, to remind him that there is someone who is looking out for him. it is actually a very important thing to be done to a child.

e) you didn't mention the WORDS....

I'm not saying that this is the correct answer but this is how I would have answered it

Little things Little drops of water,Little grains ofMake the mighty oceanAnd the pleasantThus the little minutes,Humble though theyMake the mighty agesOfLittle deeds of kindness,Little words ofMake this earth an Eden.Like the heaven a(love - above / sand-land/be-eternity)• What important message does the above poem convey

Answer»

ong>Explanation:

Little Things" is a 19th-century poem by Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney, written in Boston, Massachusetts.

Little Things

Little drops of water,

Little GRAINS of sand,

Make the mighty ocean

And the pleasant land.

Thus the little minutes,

Humble though they be,

Make the mighty ages

Of eternity.

HistoryEdit

In 1845, when studying phonography in Stephen Pearl Andrews' and Augustus F. Boyle's class, Boston, Carney was asked to give an impromptu exercise on the blackboard. Only ten minutes were allowed, and in that time, she wrote the first verse of "Little Things". It became a favorite of children in Sunday school exhibitions from that time on, and was recited and sung thousands of times. It was first published in a Sunday school paper, Gospel Teacher (renamed, Myrtle).[1][2][a]

Soon after her phonographic poem was published, it appeared in the Methodist Sunday-School Advocate, with an additional verse about missionary pennies, to which she laid no claim.[2]

This poem came to be published uncredited as a children's rhyme and hymn in many 19th century magazines and books, sometimes attributed to Ebenezer Cobham Brewer, Daniel Clement Colesworthy, or Frances S. Osgood, but the earliest publications of it clearly are those of Carney.[b] A later final verse read:

Little deeds of kindness,

Little words of LOVE,

Make our pleasant earth below

Like the heaven above.

This was quoted in Hanson's Our Woman Workers: Biographical Sketches of Women Eminent in the Universalist Church for Literary, Philanthropic and Christian Work (1881) These were the final words of the poem in the original publication, but later versions published anonymously by other authors appended various additions to this. It has also often appeared credited to Carney in a variant form:

Little deeds of kindness,

Little words of love,

Help to make earth happy

Like the heaven above.

Cultural referenceEdit

"Little Things" was parodied by Gelett BURGESS in his poem "Tidiness" in Goops and How to Be Them, A Manual of Manners for Polite Infants (1908):[4]

Little scraps of paper,

Little crumbs of food,

Make a room untidy

Everywhere they're strewed.

Total number of food records analysed

Answer»

ong>Explanation:

Food records (ALSO called dietary records or dietary diaries) collect data on dietary intake by subjects' self-record over a specified period. This dietary assessment approach does not rely on individual's memory since respondents are asked to record foods and beverages as they are consumed throughout the reporting day (a “real-time” accounting). Duration of the survey depends on the STUDY aim and the desired level of precision in estimating food consumption or nutrient intake. To assure accurate and detailed data, respondents must be trained to record adequately the food items consumed, INCLUDING the name of the food, amount consumed, preparation methods, brand names of commercially available products, recipes of composite dishes, as WELL as other particularities of interest (Van Staveren et al., 2012). Additional data regarding the time and location of consumption, parallel activity, and the presence of other people could be useful for the interpretation of an individual's eating pattern and social context of diet. Traditionally, food records capture information in an open-ended manner and accommodate any food consumed by the participant with an unlimited level of specificity and detail in the dietary intake description (Willet, 2013). This highly flexible method for dietary intake assessment could be applied in diverse groups with various lifestyle and eating habits.

Comprehensive written instructions should be given to respondents, ideally combined with face-to-face explanation, assistance, and advice. It has been shown that debriefing sessions with a nutritionist improves the quality of the obtained data (Cantwell et al., 2006). Therefore, at the end of the recording period, trained professional should review the record with the participant to clarify potential omissions and ambiguities, probe for additional information or make necessary changes (Thompson and Byers, 1994).

There are two types of food records based on the way quantification of food items is performed—estimated and weighted. An individual undertaking an estimated food diary records portion sizes and the amount of food consumed using standard household measurements, natural unit sizes, weight/volume from the packaging and labels, or according to provided portion sizes. In a weighted record, a subject weights foods and beverages prior to consumption, as well as any leftovers, and records detailed description of all the items and their weights in the recording sheet. Weighted food records provide precise food amount quantification, but are more expensive and demanding for the participant. Both methods require participants to be literate, skilled in numeration, trained before recording, and highly motivated. These requirements may cause a response bias due to overrepresentation of diet- and health-aware individuals. A common concern is that the usual eating patterns may be changed or influenced by the recording process and self-monitoring. Alteration of dietary behavior while keeping the food record (called reactivity) may occur unintentionally (through self-reflection) or intentionally (when respondents TRY to camouflage poor eating habits or avoid the recording burden) (Margetts and Nelson, 1997; Willet, 2013). If multiple days of intake per individual are needed to satisfy research questions, adherence to recording protocol and the reporting accuracy may be even more compromised, due to fatigue and decreased motivation. Furthermore, there is the risk that respondents develop the practice of filling out the record retrospectively rather than at the time of intake (Shim et al., 2014; Thompson and Subar, 2013).
