- Rip wanted to escape from the labour of the farmand the clamour of his wife. Was he successfulin this? Discuss. (Question from the story Rip Van winkle)

Answer»

☆ Answer

Rip Van Winkle leaves his farm so often and for so long for two REASONS: the first, we are told, is that he doesn't LIKE to work, at least not for himself. Further, the farm hasn't responded well to his attempts at care. The second and more important reason, however, is that his wife nags him constantly. She is called a termagant and a shrew, both ways of saying she bullies and harasses him. We are told, as a consequence, that  "he was fain to draw off his forces, and take to the outside of the house—the only side which, in truth, belongs to a hen-pecked husband."

He first goes and hangs out on a bench in front of the inn, until his wife STARTS finding him there and scolding him and the other men for being idle.

Then he heads for the forest:

"Poor Rip was at last reduced almost to despair; and his only alternative, to escape from the labor of the farm and the clamor of his wife, was to take GUN in hand and stroll away into the woods"

While the story's narrator, a neighbor of Rip's, puts the blame on the wife for driving Rip away, we might also imagine how frustrated a wife could become with such a husband.

(150-300 words) Why I love pets...

Answer»

Answer:

Pets are not merely animals living with us. They become a part of our family because of the sheer comfort we get from them. I have always wanted a pet and LAST summer my mother bought me a puppy.

He was the most adorable and beautiful puppy I had ever seen, and taking care of him became my responsibility. It was a suitable breed and had soft paws, which was a sign of expensive breeding. We decided to name our new golden retriever, Comet.

Comet had golden fur and long ears. His eyes were always joyful, and he was a bundle of joy. His golden coat shone in the sunlight as he ran about in our lawn. He loved eating roasted chicken and his dog food. At night, he would cuddle up in my bed, next to me, and go to SLEEP.

My father had created a small SLEEPING area for Comet, but he never slept there. He loved sleeping next to me at night. Comet was an active dog. He loved to go on walks, and we took him to the field twice a DAY. He became very popular among my friends, and they adored him.

Dogs are the most faithful animals, and Comet was no different. He knew all of us by our smell. Comet loved my mother very much, and when she would come home after work, Comet would jump on her and lick her face. All he wanted to be a little pat on the head. My mother would scratch his neck lovingly, and Comet would bask in all that attention he got.

He was a favorite in the family. We treated him LIKE any other member and took him everywhere we went. We occasionally went on road trips, and Comet loved to ride the car. He would bark joyously when the wind ruffled his fur and enjoy the warm sunlight.

There are so many nice places on the earth. They are scattered across the country. Every place has its own distinct features. Some places have scenic beauty in abundance while many are famous for their architectural wonders. In addition every person has different tastes, choices and likings. Several PEOPLE enjoy the sight of scenic beauty; some are attracted towards places of HISTORICAL and archaeological interests. A few MAY be interested in visiting places of religious importance.

I have visited so many places of historical and tourist interest. But the visit which has a lasting impression on my MIND is the visit of Kashmir. It is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. It is said to be the heaven on earth. It has the ACCOLADE of being “The Switzerland of India”. I was wonderstruck to see the ravishing beauty of Kashmir.
