A man donates 10 aluminum buckets to an orphanage. A bucket made of aluminum isof height 20 cm and has its upper and lowest ends of radius 36 cm and 21 cmrespectively. Find the cost of preparing 10 buckets if the cost of aluminum sheet isR 42 per 100 cm2. Write your comments on the act of the man.

Answer»

Surface area of bucket = π(r1 + r2)l + πr12

l = √[h2 + (r2 - r1)2]

= √625 = 25 cm

∴ Surface area of 1 bucket = 22/7 × 1866 cm2

Surface area of 10 buckets = 22/7 × 18660 cm2

Cost of aluminium sheet = Rs. 24631.20

12.

Sum of 4 consecutive terms of an A.P is 32. The ratio of product of 1st and last term andproduct of 2nd and 3rd term is 7:15. Find the terms.

Answer»

Let the four consecutive numbers in AP be a-3d,a-d,a+d,a+3d.

a-3d+a-d+a+d+a+3d=32

4a=32

a=8 1

(a-3d)(a=3d) /(a-d)(a+d)=7/15

15(a2-9d2) = 7(a2-d2)

15a2-135d2 =7a2-7d2

8a2-128d2= 0

d2= 4, ±2

Therefore d=4 or d=±2 1m

So, when a=8 and d=2, the numbers are 2,6,10,14.

When a=8,d=-2 the numbers are 14,10,6,2

13.

(Multipos 2 A in terms of tan ASin 2A IL.S.C. 1978)Express sin 2 A andcve that : () 2 tan A1+tan A

Answer»

sin2A = 2tanA/ (1+tan^2 A)

We will start from the right side and prove the left side.

We know that tanA = sinA/cosA

OR..........

==> 2tanA / (1+tan^2 A) = 2(sinA/cosA) / [1+ (sinA/cosA)^2]

= 2sinA/ cosA[ 1+ (sin^2A/cos^2 A)]

= 2sinA/ cosA*[(cos^2 A + sin^2 A)/cos^2A]

But we know that sin^2 A + cos^2 A = 1

==> 2tanA/ (1+tan^2 A)= 2sinA/ (1/cosA)

= 2sinA*

You want the following to be proved: sin 2A = 2tan A/ (1 + (tan A)^2).

We know that tan A = sin A/ cos A and (sin A)^2 + (cos A)^2 = 1.

2tan A/ (1 + (tan A)^2)

=> [2* sin A / cos A]/ [ 1 + (sin A)^2 / (cos A)^2]

=> [2* sin A / cos A]/ [ ((cos A)^2 + (sin A)^2) / (cos A)^2]

=> [2 sin A* (cos A)^2 / cos A]/ [ (cos A)^2 + (sin A)^2]

=> [2 sin A * cos A] / 1

=> sin 2A

Therefore sin 2A = 2tan A/ (1 + (tan A)^2).
