How do you tell the system that a transaction is beginning

Answer» When a transaction begins, Oracle Database assigns the transaction to an available undo data segment to record the undo entities for the new transaction. A transaction ID is not allocated until an undo segment and transaction table slot is not allocated, which occurs during the first DML statement. A transaction ID is unique to a transaction and represents the undo segment number, slot and sequence number.

Ram marked an certain article for Rs.490. He sold it for a discount of Rs.100. If he gains 30% in the whole transaction, find the initial cost price of the article.1. Rs. 2502. Rs. 3003. Rs. 3204. Rs. 2705. Rs. 350

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : Rs. 300

Given:

Marked Price = Rs.490

Discount on the Marked price = Rs.100

The gain in the overall transaction (Profit%) = 30%

Formulae Used:

Profit = [(SP – CP)/CP] × 100

Discount = SP – MP

Calculation:

Let the initial cost price of the article be Rs.x

Ram sold the article for a discount of Rs.100

Hence, the new SP = Rs. (490 – 100)

⇒ Rs. 390

Overall gain in the transaction = 30%

So, we get:

30 = [(390 – x)/x] × 100

⇒ 30x = 39000 – 100x

⇒ 130x = 39000

⇒ x = Rs.300

∴ The initial Cost Price of the article is Rs. 300

Explain the causes of automotive pollution and give at least two ways of reducing it.

Answer»

Automobile Pollution and Its Control:

Automobiles are said to be one of the major causes for atmospheric pollution at least in the metro cities.

Main causes of automotive pollution:

Poorly design and poorly maintained automobiles:

You must have seen on roads a bus or truck or car or tempo releasing black smoke. This is because of poor maintenance of the vehicle.

Incomplete burning of fuel air mixture:

Poorly maintained vehicle’s engine does not burn the fuel completely or properly. It can also happen because of improper mixture of air and fuel. Adulterated or poor quality of fuel: Petrol or diesel mixed with non-standard liquids/ substances increase the pollution. Excess use of clutch while driving: The habit of riding on clutch while driving increase the fuel consumption and increase the pollution.

Its Control:

Proper maintenance of automobiles along with use of lead-free petrol or diesel can reduce the pollutants they emit. Catalytic converters, having expensive metals namely platinum-palladium and rhodium as the catalysts, are fitted into automobiles for reducing emission of poisonous gases. As the exhaust passes through the catalytic converter, unburnt hydrocarbons are converted into carbon dioxide and water. Also, carbon monoxide and nitric oxide are changed to carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas, respectively. Motor vehicles equipped with catalytic converter should use unleaded petrol because lead in the petrol reduces effectiveness of the catalyst.

Good driving habits:

It reduces the pollution by reducing the fuel consumption.

Explain detailed procedure for changing air filter.

Answer»

Steps:

a. Obtain the correct replacement filter: It should be the same as the one you will replace. Consult your vehicle service manual or auto parts store if you need assistance finding the right part.

b. Secure the vehicle: Park the car on level ground and apply the parking brake. Shift into first gear (manual transmission) or Park (automatic transmission) and turn off the ignition.

c. Open the bonnet (hood): Release the bonnet with the lever inside the car. Move the exterior bonnet catch for final release. Lift the bonnet and secure it with the prop rod.

d. Locate the air filter: Air filter is located on the top of engine.

e. Remove the air filter cover: Loosen the hose clamp that seals the air conduct. Undo all the screws holding the air filter cover. Some models have wing nuts, other air filters are just clamped on with a quick release system. Keep screws and other parts together and in a safe location so you can find them later. Pull the cover out of the air conduit and lift it up so it comes off the lower part of the housing.

f. Take out the air filter: Now you can see a round or rectangular filter made of cotton, paper or gauze. Filters have a rubber rim that seals off the unit's interior. Simply lift the filter out of the housing.

g. Clean the air filter housing: Connect the air hose to the compressor and use the compressed air to blow out the dust, or use a vacuum cleaner to suck up any dirt. Seal the air conduit with removable adhesive tape. It only takes a minute and that way you won't get any dirt into the engine whilst cleaning.

h. Replace the filter: Replace the old filter with a new one. Simply insert it into the housing with the rubber rim facing up. Make sure the edges are sealed by the rubber rim.

i. Replace the cover: Carefully insert the cover back into the air conduit and then press the entire piece down onto the lower half of the air filter unit. Make sure it's on straight and securely, otherwise you could alter the engine’s performance.

j. Tighten all the screws or clamps: recheck that you have put everything firmly back together by rocking the unit gently with both hands.

k. Shut the bonnet securely.

Explain the construction and working of spark plug cleaner and tester.

Answer»

Construction of Spark Plug Cleaner:

A push button is located on the body of the equipment is pushed to supply ignition voltage to the spark plug during gap test. Air valve control, is a wing type handle on the top of the equipment and “Air” is marked on it. This valve control has three positions “OFF”, “AIR” and “SAND”. This control is used to control the flow of air and sand during sand blast cleaning of spark plugs. One needle valve is located to increase or decrease the air pressure during spark test by rotating it anti clockwise and clockwise respectively. Pressure gauge is provided on the equipment to record the pressure applied during the spark plug gap test. Mirror, a metal mirror is mounted at an angle to the rear of the plug test opening, is used to observe the action of the spark during the gap test. Adaptor and gasket are provided to install different size spark plugs in the test opening. Gap gauge, is provided for the purpose of checking and adjusting spark plug gaps.

Working of Spark Plug Cleaner:

Connect the air line from 125-150 psi air supply to the rear of the air control valve. Ground the equipment properly otherwise the spark gap test won’t be up to the mark.

a. Sandblast Cleaning: clean the spark plug of any excess oil or water and insert in the opening. With the left hand, turn air control valve to “sand” position. Oscillate outer end of the plug with a circular motion, so that cleaner blast can penetrate all crevices, for about 5 seconds. Without removing plug from the opening, turn valve to “Air” position and again oscillate plug for a few seconds to clean out all particles of loosened carbon. Return the air valve to “off” position and remove the cleaned plug. Shake out any particle of abrasive remaining between plug porcelain and shell.

b. Gap Testing: Adjust gap of the old plug and screw old plug in the openings. Clip high tension lead to the plug to be observed. Regulate air pressure to correct amount for plug being tested. Press the test button, gradually opening needle valve until the pressure has been around 20psi above normal. While pressure is being increased, observe action of the spark in the mirror to see if the spark remains bright and steady, without flickering or missing.
