Describe the steps taken by the Government of India to prevent Road accidents.

Answer»

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has taken a number of steps to prevent road accidents and road accident fatalities.

These include:

1. A multi – pronged strategy: A multi – pronged strategy has been adopted based on four Es – Engineering, Enforcement, Education and Emergency care for ensuring road safety.

2. Improving Vehicular Safety Standards: Trucks are prohibited from carrying protruding rods. Anti – locking Brake System (ABS) has been made mandatory on heavy vehicles. Induction of ABS/CBS for two wheelers are made mandatory.

3. Pilot Projects for Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims: This project has already done in the stretch of NH 8 and NH 33. Now it is proposed to implement this scheme along the Golden Quadrilateral, North South and East West Corridors.

4. Quick response ambulances: Quick response ambulances are parked in every 50. kms on the National Highways by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). A 24 x 7 call centre to receive calls for ambulances has been created and training has been given for providing first aid to road safety volunteers.

5. Speed Governors: This device has a series, of sensors that can detect how fast a vehicle is going and if this crosses the limit set by it, it restricts the flow of air and fuel to the engine. This automatically slows down and stops the vehicle from crossing the pre – determined speed.

6. Variable Message Signs: These are LED boards which can display important information that needs to be communicated to commuters. These can be used to update road users the traffic conditions in case of major breakdowns, congestion and so on.

3.

What are the preventive measures of road accidents?

Answer»

Safety Measures:

1. Always keep to the left-While driving, keep to the left and allow vehicles to pass from the opposite direction.

2. Use helmets – Make it a habit of strapping the helmet before mounting the bikes.

3. Never exceed the speed limit – The speed limit is related to the traffic condition of the area. So maintain speed limit.

4. Maintain the right distance – Collisions occur because we do not maintain adequate distance from the vehicle in the front. So maintain a safe distance from the bigger vehicles.

5. Park the vehicles only along the designated parking bays / zones not on the sides of the high ways.

6. Follow the road signs – Road signs are mostly pictorial so it is not hard to comperhend.

7. Some other safety tips are – Never ever drive when drunk, never use cell phone while driving, avoid listening to too loud music, check your mirrors before changing lanes.

8. Never cross on red and yellow light. Take a sidewalk and avoid walking on the roads.

Answer»

Answer»

Answer»

21.

Answer»

(iii) 2H2(g) + O2 (g) → 2H2O (l)

22.

Answer»

Answer»

24.

Observe the mosquitoes that are active during the day time. Catch them using an insect net and observe their bodies and legs. What do you observe? Why are cases of Dengue reported in large numbers during the post-monsoon season?

Answer»

Mosquitoes of Aedes sp. are active during day time. The special features that can be observed in this mosquito is white bands on its legs and a silver-white pattern of scales on its body.

The female mosquitoes lay their eggs above the water line inside containers that hold water. These containers include tires, buckets, birdbaths, water storage jars, and flower pots which are filled with water due to rains. After the mosquitoes lay their eggs, the mosquito larvae hatch which are aquatic and feed on the microorganisms that is found in water necessary for its growth. Hence, Dengue is reported largely during the post-monsoon season.

Tejas suffered from typhoid while, Sachin suffered from tuberculosis. Which disease could have caused more damage and why?

Answer»

Typhoid is a food and water-borne disease which affects the intestines. There are good drugs available for its treatment. If the patient reports to the doctor on time, it can be treated safely. Typhoid vaccine is also available that can protect against further attacks.

Whereas, Tuberculosis is a very tricky disease. Though it basically infects the lungs, it can spread to other parts of the body such as bones, intestines, etc. Another complication of TB is that, once infected, the Mycobacterium remains dormant in the body even after adequate treatment. Whenever the immunity of the patient goes down, TB can resurface again. Therefore, Tuberculosis causes more damage when compared to Typhoid.

Describe the role of microbes in agriculture and industries.

Answer»

Microbes play an important role in agriculture as bio control agents and bio fertilizers. Microbes play a vital role in the cycling of elements like carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulphur and phosphorus.

1. Microbes as bio control agents Microorganisms used for controlling harmful or pathogenic organisms and pests of plants are called as bio control agents (Bio pesticides). Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a species of bacteria that produces a protein called as ‘cry’ protein. This protein is toxic to the insect larva and kills them.

2. Microbes as bio fertilizers Microorganisms which enrich the soil with nutrients are called as bio fertilizers. Bacteria, cyanobacteria and fungi are the main sources of bio fertilizers. This is done by microbes either in free living conditions or by having symbiotic relationship with the plants, e.g. Nitrosomonas, Nostoc (free living), symbiotic microbes like Rhizobium, Frankia, mycorrhizae.

Microbes in Industries Microorganisms play an important role in the production of wide variety of valuable products for the welfare of human beings.

1. Production of fermented beverages: Beverages like wine are produced by fermentation of malted cereals and fruits by Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

2. Curing of coffee beans, tea leaves and tobacco leaves: Beans of coffee and cocoa, leaves of tea and tobacco are fermented by the bacteria Bacillus megaterium. This gives the special aroma.

3. Production of curd: Lactobacillus sp. converts milk to curd. .

4. Production of organic acids, enzymes and vitamins: Oxalic acid, acetic acid and citric acid are produced by fungus Aspergillus niger. Enzymes like lipases, invertase, proteases, and glucose oxidase are derived from microbes. Yeasts are rich source of vitamin-B complex.

Students are…………………in the society.

You got both…………. Word Peace.

I love to…………………………… Sighing and dismay.

How can the………………………………… fruits appear?
