PPELWrite a pen-portrait of Helen Keller

Answer»

Helen Keller was born in June 1880 in Tuscumbia, northwest Alabama. Afflicted at the age of 19 months with an unknown illness (possibly scarlet fever or meningitis) that left her blind and deaf, Keller went on to achieve many remarkable feats, publishing 14 books and becoming world-renowned as a keen activist for a range of causes.

Today, Keller is best remembered as a someone who overcame personal adversity to become one of the 20th century’s leading humanitarian advocates. Here, the team behind Whirlpool, a new historical drama-short about Keller which won the Inspiration Award at The AHRC Research in Film Awards 2017, shares nine facts about the activist and author

3465.

give example from the text to show how Helen Keller was highly determined and daring person according to 10 marks

Answer»

Ans :- Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." This quotation by Helen Keller demonstrated the risks that are involved in everyday life. With every risk a person takes, change comes hand in hand with it.

Some of the changes may be internal or external. The external changes are easier to see than the internal changes, but both changes occur in about the same way. Change is a slow and gradual process that defines the true character of a person's personality. A problem, or crisis, can often cause some of the most dramatic change in a person, even if the change is forced.

In The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, many of the characters undergo personal changes that leave a significant impact on their life. Searching for acceptance within, Jim Casy changed from a town preacher, to part of the Joad family, to a leader in John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. In the beginning of the novel, Jim Casy's open mind permitted him to talk about his past, to listen to other people, and to realize the value of opinions.

At the beginning of the novel, Jim Casy reflected on the main aspects that ruled his life as a preacher and as a person. He told Tom Joad that he refused to be a preacher anymore because he had lost the spirit of God. Casy felt that the people had lost the meaning of the spirit and that he could not preach anymore if he had lost it as well. Steinbeck stressed the fact that all people change as they move through life and that the progression is often slow. Jim Casy thought that maybe he was not really a preacher at all and that maybe he was just a regular person, like the people that he had used to preach. Jim Casy said, "I wasn't never really a preacher anyway" (Steinbeck). This quotation by Jim Casy revealed his insecurity about his.

Throughout neand other radical left causesnu2. 9. Write the character-sketch of Helen Keller. (2014-ZZDRO101; 2013-KOr

Answer»

Helen Keller was born on 27th June 1880 inTuscumbia in Alabama. Her father, Arthur H. Keller, was a descendant of CasparKeller who was a native of Switzerland. He was a captain in the confederatearmy. Helen’s mother was Kate Adams who was Arthur’s second wife and was manyyears younger. At the age of nineteen months, Helen became very ill with brainfever. When the fever subsided, Helen was left blind and deaf forever. Helen wasquite eager to learn. Despite her handicap she had learnt some crude signs ofcommunication and also how to fold the clothes etc. later, she showedexceptional capabilities for learning and very soon could learn to read, writeor even speak. She had voracious passion for learning, knowledge andexploration.

Like Wordsworth, she learnt to find solace in nature and itspeaceful serenity. Her power of observation was commendable. How beautifullyshe has described the details of her observations! Even those with eyes andears cannot describe as beautifully as she has done. Natural beauty wasabundant around her house. The Keller homestead was quite near a rose- bower. Its old fashioned garden was the paradise of her childhood. Before MissSullivan's arrival, this garden was the place where Helen went to find comfortand hide her hot face in the cool leaves and grass. Helen felt extremely happyin that garden of flowers, wandering happily from spot to spot. She couldrecognize each vine and plant by touching them.

Helen was a prodigy child since her early childhood! However, the challenges she faced were quite arduous---as if Nature had planneda special obstacle course for her to help her bring her best out! After beingrendered blind and disabled in hearing and speaking, Helen's frustration tolearn more and more about life mounted very high. Her hearing disabilitycombined with visual disability made the teaching and learning morechallenging. Helen was a very industrious girl; she always did her best tolearn. She had such a natural, innate passion for learning which alwaysmotivated her. Manual alphabet, reading, arithmetic, etc., all were formidablechallenges for her initially, but Helen overcame them. The most arduous of allof them was learning to speak. Learning to speak is almost an impossible taskfor those who have hearing disability. So Helen had to work very hard. She had to repeat each word and sentence many times for the right tone andpronunciation. She practiced untiringly. At times she became discouraged andweary too, but she never gave up. She faced all the difficulties courageously. Her courage and perseverance are source of inspiration for all mankind!

Describe Helen Keller's experience at Radcliffe.

Answer»

Helen’s wish to join Radcliff College was fulfilled in thefall of 1900 after a considerable effort. She was so excited at the prospect ofstudying with girls who could see and hear. She began her studies witheagerness hoping to find a reality match to her world of imagination at thecollege. The lecture-halls seemed filled with the spirit of the great and thewise, and she thought the professors were the embodiment of wisdom. However, abitter disillusionment awaited her. She soon discovered that college was notquite the romantic place she had imagined. Helen expresses her disillusionmentin the following words: “Many of the dreams that had delighted my younginexperience became beautifully less and "faded into the light of commonday." Gradually I began to find that there were disadvantages in going tocollege.”

Helen felt at college there was lack of time. Learning wasimparted at a fast pace without considering whether it was being imbibed ornot. Inside the class Helen felt ‘practically alone’. The professor appeared tobe as remote as if he were speaking through a telephone. The lectures werespelled into her hand as rapidly as possible, and much of the individuality ofthe lecturer was lost to her in the effort to keep in the race. Helen describes the hurry in the followingsimile: “The words rush through my hand like hounds in pursuit of a hare whichthey often miss.”

So we see Helen was not much impressed with her experienceat Radcliffe College.
