how does the author contrast the chinese view of arts with the western concept of painting? |
| Answer» A classical Chinese landscape does not stick very close to reality. It leaves enough scope for the viewer to use his imagination. The painting can be looked at from any angle and from any viewpoint. One need not see it through the eyes of the painter. The scroll on which the artist paints has white, blank spaces left after every painting. It gives freedom to the viewer to travel up and down. It captures the essence of the inner life.A European or Western painting, on the other hand, is realistic. The painter wants you to look at it exactly as he had seen it. From a particular angle. It creates an illusion of delicate realism. The story of Quinten in the 15th century illustrates this point clearly. He entered a painter’s studio slyly and painted a fly on the artist’s blank canvas. The artist mistook it for a real fly and tried to drive it away. That story is representative of Western painting. | |

How is uncle khosrove a funny character (in 100 words) |
| Answer» In the short story \'The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse\' by William Saroyan, Uncle Khosrove is projected as a funny character possessing a crazy streak. He displayed temperamental, impatient, hostile and obstinate attitude towards life. He approached all problems and situations with his pet phrase \'It\'s no harm, pay no attention to it.\'One humorous incident from the story is Uncle Khosrove and John Byro\'s meeting at Aram\'s house. John Byro informed Aram\'s mother that his white horse had been missing for more than a month. He was extremely sad about the loss and commented about the uselessness of his surrey without his white horse. Uncle Khosrove, who was at Aram\'s house at the time, did not show any sympathy or concern for his loss and shouted in his irritable and impatient manner "It\'s no harm. What is the loss of a horse? What is this crying over a horse?" He kept on repeating his pet phrase "Pay no attention to it" on every complaint made by Byro. This made John Byro to comment on the price he had to pay for the said horse. This comment further infuriated Uncle Khosrove who retorted back: "I spit on money." John Byro could not tolerate it any further and so he stalked out of the house, slamming the screen door in utter disgust. | |

Write a paragraph on the happiest day of my life . |
| Answer» Life is a see-saw of pleasure and pain. Sometimes we get pleasures, sometimes we get pains. Our life swings between pleasures and pains. On the whole, human life has more pains than pleasures. Pleasures come now and then, pain stays with us forever. The happiest day of my life was last year when we went to New Delhi to see the Republic Day celebrations. It was a great fun and the whole city wore a festive appearance. The whole city was spick and span. Everything was neat and clean. We had got our seats booked in advance at the India Gate. We still went early in the morning in order to get comfortable seats. All ministers, ambassadors, other most important people gathered at the India Gate to watch the celebrations. Dignitaries had also come from abroad to see the show. Soft music was playing. There were uniformed members of the defence service participating in the function. Exactly at the fixed time the President of India arrived on Raj Path and was received by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister had come 10 minutes earlier than the President. The Defence Services gave him a salute and there was a march past. The President stood to receive salutes of the Army. Navy and Air Force contingents. National Cadet Corps and school children also marched past the President. Some of the schools presented unique plays in the form of dances and they were really a feast to the eyes. Then the planes of the Air Force showered flower (petals) on the people gathered there. This was followed by jhankis of different States on the trucks. We had cultural shows from all parts of the country. Every State showed its culture and economic progress by depicting scenes on trucks. There were tribal dancers from Manipur, bhangra from Punjab, temples of Tamil Nadu, Trombay’s Atomic Power Plant, Ajanta and Elora of Maharashtra, and U.P. showed scenes of pandits from Varanasi. Lakhs of rupees were spent on these cultural tableaux. The entire procession went to Connaught Place and then passing by Ajmeri Gate and Old Delhi via Fatepuri and Chandni Chowk, reached Red Fort, where it ended. The ministers, the President and the ambassadors, did not accompany the procession. They parted company at India Gate. It took several hours for the procession to reach Red Fort from India Gate. This is altogether an unforgettable experience of my life. Republic Day was my happiest day. | |

message of ch1 of snapshot |
| Answer» The primary message of the story, The Summer of the Beautiful Horse, is that despite social or economic challenges, there are some truths which are absolute and should be practiced under and all conditioned. It is undeniable that the story is set within a family that is poor. Their poverty is not used as a crutch or something that limits the emotional quotient of the boys or the people in the community. The boys\' love for the horse is genuine and sincere, not motivated out of some ulterior motive of greed or economic want. Their love for the animal is quite authentic. When they return the horse, they have a genuine understanding that they need to return what is not theirs. They are not motivated by anything else other than the highly human reaction of wanting to make right what is wrong. The reaction of the horse\'s owner, John Byro, is also very real and valid. He knows very well the boys have taken the horse, but gives multiple opportunities for the boys to recognize the consequences of their action. Ironically enough, the owner shows a sense of charity and good will and this benefits him, as the horse is much more manageable and well conditioned as a result of the boys\' work with the horse. In the final analysis, when we examine the encounter of the boys, the horse, and the owner, there is a trend that while economic hardships are a strong factor in how we behave, they are not a determinant one. There is a realm of human action that can lie outside the strictly causal world of economics. The setting of the story seems to be Depression time California, which makes the economic reading even more intriguing. | |
