1.

write the ionic equation for the reaction involved on decolorisation of acidified potassium permanganate solution by so2 gas

Answer»

Explanation:

Sulphur DIOXIDE (SO2) is passed through an ACIDIFIED solution of potassium permagnate (KMNO4) which is purple in colour. On doing so, sulphur dioxide being a strong REDUCING agent ,reduces the purple coloured solution to FORM a  colourless solution .

2KMnO4+5SO2+2H2O→K2SO4+2MnSO4+2H2SO4

  (purple)                                       (colourless)
