There are different GROUPS of minerals, such as oxides, hydroxides, and silicates. Oxides have OXYGEN (O) as the main anion within the molecule that makes up the mineral. Hydroxides have water (or at least OH) as the main anion, while silicates have silica as the main anion. It may help to GIVE some examples.
