Answer» Static Friction: Static friction is the force which opposes the initiation of motion of an object on the surface. The magnitude of static frictional force f_s lies between 0 ≤ f_s ≤ µ_s N where, µ_s – coefficient of static friction N – Normal force then, equation shows that f_s can take any value from 0 & µ_s N. If object is at rest, when no external force acts on it then f_s = 0. If object is at rest, also external force acts on it, then f_s = F_ext But still the static friction f_s is less than µ_s N when object begins to slide, the static friction (f_s) acting on the object attains maximum.
