Answer» To remove its oxide Because it is moisture in th air We should clean magnesium ribbon before burning because in the open atmosphere magnesium react with oxygen and form a magnesium ribbon.magnesium ribbon cannot be burn in oxygen because it hinders to the magnesium Magnesium ribbon should be clean because to remove its protective layer from the surface of magnesium To remove magnesium oxide which hinders it from burning To prevent further oxidation. Magnesium ribbon which we generally use has a layer of oxygen which may hinders the burning Bcoz mg is a very reactive metal when it stored it reacts with oxygen to form a layer of mg oxide on its surface.this layer is quite stable and prevent further reaction of mg with oxygen.the magnesium ribbon is cleaned by sand paper for removing this layer........... We clean Mg ribbon before burning because to remove oxide layer of Mg . If we forget or do not remove or clean that oxide layer then it will not burn properly We clean Magnesium ribbon before burning in air because to remove the coating of Oxides and Carbonates from it. |
