Answer» Magnesius robbon is cleaned before burning because by cleaning the coating of impurity ( oxide) formed on its surface is removed and it becomes pure magnesium. Magnesium ribbon should be clean in order to remove the oxide layer present on it.This oxide layer is deposited over a time and it results in incomplete combustion.Thus,in order to observe a complete combustion the magnesium ribbion should be cleaned with sand paper.
