Why is the north -south extent of India large than its east-west extent even though the country latitude and longitudinal extent in degree is approximate of same value? |

Answer» It is because of spherical shape of our earth. Latitudes and longitudes are imaginary lines marked on it. All longitudes are same in length but distance between them decreases when we move from the Equator towards the poles. All of them meet on North Pole and South Pole. Lengths of latitudes keep decreasing when we move from the Equator towards poles.Tropic of Cancer passes from mid of India. Length of Tropic of Cancer is less than the Equator. thanks |
