Why is the nitrogen molecule less reactive? |
|
Answer» Nitrogen is less reactive due to high bond order (triple bond and consequently high bond enthalpy. Nitrogen has the ability to form pπ -pπ multiple bonds with itself (and with other elements having small size and high electronegativity). Thus, nitrogen exists as a diatomic molecule with a triple bond between the two atoms. Thats why nitrogen molecule are less reactive. |
