Why is light reduced passing through a polarizer

Answer»

Light, generally travels by fluctuating in different directions.

Polarizer is a device to produce light moving only in one direction and vibrations of light waves to be only in one direction.

When light PASSES through polarizer, the part of light wave vibrating in different directions are being stopped by polarizer and the part of light wave whose vibrating axis is parallel to polarizer axis only passes through it.

Thus, as a result the INTENSITY of light wave GET REDUCED by passing through a polarizer.
