Why in glycolysis there is no need of oxygen? |
|
Answer» Some carbohydrates in the food you eat CONTAIN up to several hundred glucose molecules. These glucose molecules are a prime source of energy for your muscles, brain and red blood cells. However, your body must break down the glucose into ATP, or cellular energy, through a process called glycolysis. If oxygen is available, glycolysis is followed by TWO processes in the mitochondria -- the KREBS cycle and OXIDATIVE phosphorylation, respectively -- that further increase ATP yield. |
