Answer» The elderly gentleman had heard the rumour about Seth Govind Ram’s Bank. He thought that the Seth had gone broke and so he must have fled to another town. I think the gentleman ran for his cheque book because he wanted to withdraw all his money from the bank before it was declared bankrupt.
