Why do school bags have wide straps? |

Answer» This question can be solved by understanding and applying the concept of pressure. Force divided by area gives us the value for pressure. Therefore, from the definition, we can imply that pressure is directly proportional to the force applied and inversely applied to the area. Therefore the larger the force applied the larger the pressure produced. Similarly, pressure applied on a large area is small and on a small area, the pressure will be large. Therefore when the bags are produced with wide straps the area widens and therefore the pressure on the shoulder will be comparatively lower. Bags are provided with wide straps so that the weight of the bag will spread over a large shoulder area. Therefore, this method reduces the amount of pressure on the shoulder. Hence, when the pressure on the shoulder decreases it becomes easier for children to carry the bags. |
