Answer» copper metal when exposed to AIR turns green in colour due to CORROSION in copper vessel is exposed during rainy season the metal REACT with gases and moisture and atmospheric gases to form a mixture of copper carbonate and copper hydroxide . this is a green colour to the surface of copper metal. this green colour LAYER is called patina. this act as protective layer not as corrosive layer. prevention: it is prevented when Cooper metal comes in contact with oxygen it for a green layer known as patina which help copper from further corrosion. |
