IN ARTICIPATION OF A WAR WITH THE FRENCH, WHO HAD A TRADING SETTLEMENT IN CHANDEMAGORE. FROM THEN THE BRITISH STARTED TO FORTIFY CALCUTTA.. THANK YOU.. Siraj-ud-Daulah ordered the British to pay taxes to him like all other Indian merchants. The British refused to do so. This angered the young nawab. In anticipation of a war with the French, who had a trading settlement in Chandemagore, the British began to fortify Calcutta. |
