why did kheda farmer protest against Britishers |
| Answer» Mahatma Gandhi in 1917, led the peasants in Kheda District in Gujarat in their struggle against the British. The peasants of the district suffered from crop failure and plague in the region. The revenue could not be paid to the British and the peasants appealed for relaxation of the revenue which was not accepted by the British and in fact, insisted that the farmers also pay the 23 % increase in revenue that year. Thus, under Mahatma Gandhi, they held a Satyagraha to protest this unjust revenue policy of the British. | |
