Why did Griffin decide against painting and powdering his face?

Answer»

Initially Griffin decided to paint and powder his face in order to render himself visible. He thought that this would give him a near normal look as compared to what a mask could give him. However, he decided against this option because earlier he had to disrobe himself urgently on many occasions to acquire invisibility. In comparison, paint would not have been easy to remove. In fact it would have required stuff like turpentine oil and a considerable amount of time to clean the mess created by powder and paint. Mask would have definitely made him look grotesque but he didn’t mind it as long as he had an opportunity to become invisible simply by shedding clothes. Thus he rightly thought against painting and powdering his face to give himself visibility
