Since different parts of the Earth enter and exit daylight at different times, we need differenttimezones. Fleming advocated the adoption of astandardor meantimeand hourly variations from that according toestablished timezones. He was instrumental in convening the 1884 International Prime Meridian Conference in Washington, at which the system of internationalstandard time- still in use today - was adopted. |
