Why alkanes are so inert?

Answer» Because alkanes have single carbon - carbon bond between its atoms which are most stable. On the contrary, the alkenes and alkynes have double and triple bonds respectively whoch make them to react more to get a more stable carbon- carbon single bond structure.
This is because of the bond energies they exhibit between them. C-H, C-C bond energies are high.
