Why addition reaction occurs only in unsaturated hydrocarbons |
| Answer» \xa0Unsaturated compounds undergo addition reactions because of the presence of pi bond.\xa0The electron charge cloud of the pi bond is placed above and below the plane of the bonding atom. This result in the easy availability of the electrons in the unsaturated compounds compared to the saturated compound where two atoms are bonded by the sigma bond .sigma bond which is formed at the internuclear axis in between the two bonded atom is very strong. Thus pi electrons provide a better site for the attacking species. | |
