Why 2s2 electron is difficult to remove than 2p electron

Answer»

The electrons in the s - ORBITAL are more attracted towards the nucleus than P - orbital electrons. Hence they WOULD have higher Ionisation Enthalpy and hence difficult to remove. MOREOVER s - orbital can accommodate only 2 electrons. In 2S2 condition the orbitals are fully filled. It’s also difficult to remove electrons from fully filled stable orbitals.
