The Jacobin club was the most popular and successful political club of France. It derived its name from a former convent of St Jacob in Paris. The members of Jacobin club were mostly less prosperious sections of the society. This included the shoppkeepers, shoemakers, pastry cooks, watch-makers, printers,as well as servants and daily-wage workers. The club was formed due to political climate that mistreated the people of France. This included increase in the direct tax, the taxes charged by the Church and no involvement of people in the governance of the country.
