1.

Whiskbroom and Pusbhbroom Scanners.

Answer»

Solution :Whiskbroom scanners, also sometimes REFERRED toas spotlight or across track scanners, use a mirror to reflectlight into a singledetector . The mirror moves BACK and forth , to collect measurements from one pixel in the image at a time . Itis shown below:

The moving parts make this type ofsensor expensiveand more likely to wear out.
Pushbroom Scanners:
Pushbroom scanners are also sometimes referred to as along track scanners. Itis used a line of detectors arrangedperpendicular to the flight direction ofthe spacecraft . As the spacecraft flies forward, the image is collected one line at a time , with all of the PIXELS in a line being measured simultaneously. It is shownwith the help offollowing figure. A pushbrooms scanner receives a strong singal than a whiskbroom scannerbeacuse itlooks at each pixel area for longer . One drawback of pushbroom sensors is that the detector in the " pushbroom" can have varying sensitivity. If they arenot perfectly calibrated , this can result in stripes in the data.

Sensors that usethe pushbroom design INCLUDE SPORT , IRS, QuickBrid, Orb View etc.
