The magnets can get high magnetic fields varying from -ve to 0 and positive. it is not easy to handle natural magnets and can't be USED easily by cranes for lifting purpose as they will not drop. Electromagnets don't LOOSE their strength when heated . Permanent magnets are not usable after time. So electromagnets are preferred.
