What was the khilafat movement?Explain.

Answer» Khilafat movement was started in 1921. To save the powers of the Khalifa as their were rumours that harsh treaty is going to be done on khifa after the declinr of ottoman turkey.For this khilafat committee was formed in Bombay by maulana azad, azmal khan. When mohammad ali and shaukat ali came to discuss about this to gandhiji. Gandhiji saw this an opportunity to unite Muslim and Hindu. He in Calcutta session of Congress tried to convince the leaders of Congress to start non cooperation khilafat movement but Congress was unwilling to start this movement as they were thinking that this movement will cause enough violence and also they donot want to stop council election for this purposes. But in December nagpur session of Congress gandhiji got success in convincing all leaders ans and in January 1921 *non cooperative khilafat movement was started*
