Answer»

Given:

The nunmbers 94, 24, 100  and 26.

To find:

What number should be added to each of the numbers 94, 24, 100 and 26, so that the resulting numbers are in continued PROPORTION

Solution:

LET the number added be x.

The numbers are 94+x,24+x,100+x and 26+x.

As these numbers are in continued proportion.

so we have, PRODUCT of extremes = product of means

(94+x)(26+x) = (24+x)(100+x)

24 44+26x+94x+x^2 = 2400+100x+24x+x^2

2444+120x+x^2 = 2400+124x+x^2

2444 -2400 +x^2 - x^2 = 124x-120x

44 = 4x

x= 44/4=11

Therefore, 11 must be added to each number.
