What is the strategic importance of islands specifically andman and nicobar islands |
| Answer» Geostrategically, because the islands are located 1,500 kilometres from the mainland, they help to connect India to the Indo-Pacific. Their strategic significance was noted by the Indian Ministry of Defence when it created India\'s sole joint command post there in October 2001. India\'s Navy chief, Admiral R K Dhowan recently acknowledged that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a “very very important aspect” of India\'s security, acting as extended arms of the country. Dhowan said that India needed to deploy naval assets to the islands for surveillance in important sea lines of communication. | |
