| Answer» (i) Under the Inland Emigration Act of 1859, the plantation workers were notpermitted to leave tea-gardens without permission and, in fact, they were rarelygiven such permission.(ii) Thousands of plantation workers defied the authorities that left the plantationand headed home.(iii) They believed Gandhi Raj was coming and everyone would be given land intheir own village.(iv) They however, never reached their destination.(v) Stranded on the way by railway and steamer strike they were caught by thepolice and badly beaten up. | |
