What is the purpose of producing haploid plants ? |
|
Answer» Haploids are always pure because they possess only one set of chromosomes. They are useful for induction of mutation (i.e., mutation breeding). Haploids are also used in production of homozygous pure line doubling of chromosomes. Guha and Maheshwari (1964) were first Indian scientists to produce haploid plants by culturing anthers of Datura innoxica. |
